Lets start by saying that this service should be rather simple. You pay your bill and a little trash/recycling soldier comes once a week and hauls it away. Not the case! We have had damage to our house from dropped cans. The only way this was resolved was showing them the camera recording to have them accept responsibility. This was not a simple resolution. The other fun and frequent issue is drivers dropping the bins in the back of their trucks and not notifying the customers. They just simply disappear without a trace and we are subsequently left with a pile of trash and recycling in our garage until it is "convenient" for them to resolve the issue that they created. Overall, very inconsistent and terrible customer service options to fix the issue that they create. If there was another option for service, we would have done this long ago... read more

Waste Management neglected to pick up my recycling "due to weather" however the pick up was not done at a later date and the inclement weather was brief. Mind you I have services with Republic Waste Management in Central Oregon and they received much more snow and still came to pick up the rubbish and recycling. The following week, I had an enormous amount of recycling, all of it cut down into small pieces except for 3 larger boxes that an employee laid out beside the recycling that was broken down. The driver emptied the bin and left the entirety of the rest of the recycling. When I called to get resolution to this, I was eventually transferred to a "manager" by the name of Sariah. She was quite possibly the most dismissive and solution aversed "customer service manager" I've had to deal with in my life. Her attitude was absolutely not becoming of someone who has chosen to work in the field of customer service. Not only was I provided with ZERO solution but she mockingly guided me through her list of reasons why I she wouldn't help me and then proceeded to laughingly end the conversation, I do mean literally giggling while she "wished me a super great weekend". I was utterly appalled by her lack of professionalism. Especially after relating to her my extreme frustration with Waste Management given not only this incident but the fact that Waste Management has been erroneously billing me for months and months for services that I had cancelled. She conducted herself with zero empathy and zero professionalism. I have been considering submitting formal complaints to the City of Portland, to all departments of relevance, regarding not only this matter but my concerns over the the city's contracts with Waste Management, if this is how customers are to be treated by its employees. read more

Moved from Camas WA to Portland OR and extremely frustrated with the services we've had since living here with WM servicing our trash. Multiple instances of them f***ing up service and me having to take time out of my day to contact them to correct it. Then last week they skipped our trash bin (they're supposed to come once every 2 weeks for trash). After I reported it, they said I will have to wait another 2 weeks before they can pick up the trash. So we're just supposed to keep 4+ weeks worth of trash on hand even though this was their fault?! When we had Camas utilities servicing our trash, they would come pickup next day or within the week if it was their fault for messing up. I am so tired of trying to call this company for a return service when they forget to pick up one of my containers! They miss something at least one or two times a month and then have the nerve to say we didn't put it out or they did pick it up! My husband sets it out like clockwork! We take pictures now but it doesn't matter. And do you think they reimburse you for the missed pick up and the hassle? Not a chance! They charge 70.00 a month but don't give us 70.00 worth of service! And getting a person when you call is a joke. You have to say "Speak to agent" about 10 times before you get someone. Review is specifically for their pricing for dumping pure yard debris at their facility - easily the most expensive place I've taken tree branches, yard clean up etc in the Portland metro area. We dumped a similar amount in mixed waste (that came from tenants who left our rental filled with their trash) and the cost was only $5 more. Shocking, especially because Waste Management uses the yard debris you pay them to take to their facility to make the various compost types and soil amendments they sell. I'd say go somewhere else, you're likely to pay significantly less anywhere else. read more

I've lived here for over 20 years and have only had a problem with Waste Management for the last five years. I've had them throw my recycler in the ravine run over my recycling bin, purposely and purposely knock over my bin and not get the recycling. We have six other houses that put their garbage and recycling in a row with us yet we are the only ones they completely harass over and over again! Today Was the last straw. They decided to not get our recycling and garbage on a Friday knowing that there's nothing that we could do about it until Monday. We get it. What a joke; constant issues with pick-up. Interesting enough, I check the online account when service is missed and it shows picked up. It even indicates a time, while nobody in the community has been serviced. This time it is glass recycling. Their solution is: "we'll pick up twice the amount next time." Apparently a vehicle was parked too close to the blue recycle bin and the driver refused to pick up the recycling. NEWSFLASH...residents of Portland do NOT dictate who parks in front of their homes. This situation could have been prevented "IF" the driver took 30 seconds of his paid time to move the bin so as to be able to empty it. Their solution...the driver will pick it up next week and you can set any extra recycling next to the recycle bin. But, that will require that the driver get out of the vehicle and spend extra time to put the extra recycling in to the truck. WM continues to over charge for their services and NOT adequately resolve these types of problems. read more

So I will first say sanitation workers are an under appreciated dedicated group of unsung heroes whose work directly reflects the safety values and opportunities of the communities they work with. In fact their work is so impacting that when it doesn't happen it creates a series of problematic outcomes and unexpected issues with few other possible solutions. The pick ups are skipped more often than picked up which requires leaving it out for days awaiting a second pick up. Not a lovely small business and pedestrian impact. They claim to offer support for physically disabled clients by retrieving cans from a designated location but did not do so ever or even when in the street. Ignoring commitments to access for They have an online reporting system that waits 10-12 days and auto replies that your issue has been resolved without any actual contact. The phone number is buried. The billing is out of date. The customer care staff are hard working and competent but the series of automated communication to address urgent needs is an obstacle to service. Our whole block has this issue. I have filmed them driving by us and emailed it to even show they are not collecting on days they mark collect and it did not improve. There are other companies that can service thankfully but even that requires that WM actually remove their cans first. Lots of solves could happen with adding a scan code or accountability pic. If Instacart and Doordash worked it out I have faith WM could improve with better technology and more connected communication between departments read more

Warning, if waste management says that they will attempt to pick up another day due to weather or any other reasons, be prepared to keep your trash till next week's pick up day. WM lied to customers about trying to pick up Wednesday bins on the Saturday after the snow/ice storm, and there were no trucks to be seen, even with roads clear. Furthermore, they will not pick up extra garbage next to the containers unless you schedule it online, despite garbage bins overflowing in the neighborhood. May 23rd, 2023 If I had a choice to give no stars, I would. The dump truck operator refused to pick up my garbage bin this morning. He stated that my truck was blocking the bins. My truck is about 10-13 ft away from the bins and for the most part, the truck is in the driveway. Just the bumper end is in the road. The operator is coming from the right side of the house. The neighbors bins are not too far away from mine. He can easily pick up my bin without any issues. Let's say, if he is having a hard time getting to the bin, he can take the 3 seconds to back up to make it work. For God's sake, the dump truck has a mechanical arm that goes out to grab the bins. I think we're one of the first scheduled to pick up areas and so we have had no problems with waste management. They are strict on over filling bins, which probably has to do with their efficient equipment in capturing the can mechanically. The problem our neighborhood is having is people going through the bins in the evening. Last night, there were four different scouts, looking for recyclable cans, perhaps. The first was a nice woman in her car that parked and went to all the homes. I approached her and said you do not have permission to go through the bins the second event was a car pulled up and two women got out with plastic bags and attempted to go through the recycling cans and I told them they do not have permission. The third event was an elderly gentleman that parked his car and began working through the bins and I can told him he does not have permission, and I would have to call the police if I see him again. The fourth event was a young man dressed in black, no car, and I ran out my front door and said you do not have permission. It scared him, and he ran down the street. This all happened last night. It has been a common experience for over a year of a couple people but now it's becoming a routine. How do we stop this? read more

Terrible customer service, Waited 30 minutes to be told that I needed to go sit in another line because their IVR system is outdated and not accurate. Their online portal is just par for the course, more than half the time it claims my garbage wasn't picked up. I tried to tell them that their website was wrong, and it was picked up, so they asked to schedule a special pick up... After multiple attempts to explain the situation, I just gave up and the website continues to be wrong most of the time. More issues? Ok, while waiting on hold because the website says I need to call to get basic sales information, I hear the IVR tell me 50 times that I don't need to wait on hold, and it is on the website, despite the fact that is is clearly not. On another call I tried the "Call me Back" option. An hour later I got an email asking how the call went along with the name and picture of the person who never called. As promised replacement recycle can was delivered around 12:45. Upgraded from one to three stars due to WM's good office management response. I have regular service at my house from waste management. The guys running the trucks are great, but the website is almost useless. Can't initiate a vacation hold from the website and finding a way to contact them is next to so difficult. First thing that came up was a web form that I filled out and they said they'd gat back to me in a day or so. Finally stumbled on an online chat (chat button was not on the webpage like the FAQs said it would be) and a phone number was non-existent. Told me I called a few weeks earlier to restart service and exited chat (got the impression the chat person was overworked). I couldn't have called when they said as I was not in town. Doesn't appear they are interested in feedback as there is no survey request when service is complete. Seems they are earning their one star rating. read more

Waste Management has to be one of the most corrupt businesses in the greater Portland area. They do not have competition, so they can treat their customers however they want. One of their customers told me that they don't even need to fulfill service that customers pay for! This customer, for example, did not have their trash picked up three weeks in a row despite being enrolled in autopay and having a balanced account. This customer then tried to reach out to customer service through the WM website, and this is where it gets revealing. When they searched the website, there was no phone numbers to be found! The only option is to use a chat/text system. When they finally got a tech, they asked the tech for a phone number so they could call and talk to some one. The customer was told that that is not an option. That says everything! If a company is so weak in customer service that they can't even answer a phone then they do not deserve to serve the people of Portland. And they Aren't serving the people of Portland. Our trash comes every week. With the two big storms that came through-- it delayed our trash pickup for 4 WEEKS!!. No refund was given and they also did not take extra trash that was accumulated during this time. It's unfortunate this is really the only service in Portland . read more

Absolutely terrible service. They have not picked up my trash on the designated day for two months now and they always mark it as picked up. Every time I have to log on and report it missed so they pick it up the next day. No one in their customer service can tell me why this is. Today they not only didn't take my trash but knocked it over and trash spilled on the sidewalk. It seems intentional at this point. I would fire them if there was any other option but there isn't. Almost impossible to change services with this company. The wait time is over an our on the phone at all times. They don't allow changes online. Your on hold for hours with the automatic music saying you can do everything online which is untrue. Every time you get ahold of someone its not their department and you get put back on hold for up to another 30 minutes. Plastered our mailbox down last week, and four calls and an email later, we still have not heard from anyone local about getting it replaced. A bunch of empty promises about 'expediting' the fix. Still, our mailbox is flat on the ground. Add to that, the fact that our cans are always left blocking our driveway and/or toppled over in the street. Waste Manage is a waste of money. The "customer service" is horrible. I have a commercial account for twice a month pickup @ $153 a month. They were issued 2 master gate keys. The driver has had difficulty using 2 keys so we keyed them both the same. Mind you they got into the first gate but can't unlock the second.... which is why we made the keys THE SAME. Still can't figure out how to unlock 2 locks with the same key. They do not know how to use the telephone either. Gave them my home number if there was a problem at 5 am, they called the business line.... Customer service agent is condescending. This is the last time I call them. This company is ruining my quality of life! How? For some reason, they really like to do 3am pick ups of the business/apartment next door"s dumpsters (sometimes several times in a row...trash, recycling, compost are all different trucks). This happens right below my bedroom windows. 3:15 and 3:25 AM pickups this morning (Saturday, 4th of July!) We have emailed, sent video, called, etc.... multiple times over the last 2 years (lived here for 11 years)...and the response is that they will change the route time.
