This mural was a collaborative effort between the Washington Wizards and Downtown DC. It is about a year old and looks great. It is located on the side of DC Engine Company 2 / Rescue Squad 2. I like how the artist incorporated the entire side of the building, including the walls. The mural is the work of Juan Pineda, artistically known as criomatic. It is a very busy and colorful mural with a lot of meaning. You will see the Larry O'Brien Championship Trophy, paying homage to the Washington Wizards/Bullets championship run in 1978. The Wizards logo is part of the mural. The pillars are painted yellow, red, and green, respectively, representing the yellow, red, and green metro lines that meet there. The pillars also have the DC Flag on them. Of course, the mural has a basketball court. There is also a go-go reference on the mural, which nods to the music genre deeply rooted in the city. The Chinese lamp represents the area of DC that it is in, Chinatown.
I really like this mural. It is very vibrant and grabs your attention. I actually thought that it was a store or souvenir shop at first. There is metered street parking within a reasonable walking distance from this mural.
I really like this mural and all of its symbolism. Anyway, as with most murals that I have visited and reviewed in the past, this is probably not a very long stop. It is not a destination attraction. I was there less than 5 minutes. So, you may want to consider adding stops at other attractions in the area, or making this stop part of a larger itinerary to maximize your time and trip. It is definitely worth checking out though. read more
