Regrettably around a third (300) of WaPo's staff lost their jobs yesterday gutting foreign news bureaus, eliminating sports coverage and generally abandoning ancillary sections like books. For perspective over 109,000 layoffs were announced across the country in January. So, while the slaughter at The Post makes headlines, the overall trendlne for layoffs is not good. The world's second or third wealthiest man Jeff Bezos probably got tired of losing 100 mil a year since he bought the paper from the Graham family for 250 million in 2014 having to endure a cratering in circulation and advertising (both down 40%+ from the time of his purchase.) As a former digital subscriber, I franky grew tired of editorial based entirely on chronicling the "resistance" to Trump but going curiously mute to the foibles of the home team (90% of WaPo's journalists are registered Democrats.) I have no problem with savaging the GOP who no doubt richly deserve the lash when they behave badly but... the axe should swing both ways. It has been said that Bezos can easily absorb the losses as a civic duty since he can carry The Post for five years on what he makes in a single month. He could -- but maybe he's looking to reinvent the paper hewing closer to the on-demand podcast, YouTube model where the vast majority of Americans now get their news. Or, he could just be a rapacious plunderer looking for a quick exit. Whatever the case, the era of Woodward and Berstein was over a half century ago -- something clearly needed to change. I think I'll resubscribe just to keep tabs. Five optimistic stars. read more

This is an update of my five star review of the Washington Post shortly after Jeff Bezos purchased our local newspaper in Washington DC some years ago. I then gave him a positive shout out for taking an hands off approach and allowing the Post to continue printing an enjoyable, trustworthy and fact based local newspaper. My one star review reflects my great disappointment as time has past his hiring of right wing pals--one directly imported from England with limited experience in writing for a rag publication there. The absolute last straw was Bezos personal interference with the Post Editorial page recently by having the nascent editorial endorsement for Kamala Harris for President of the United States pulled suddenly and at the last moment. The Editor of the Editorial Page has since resigned in protest---and I, too, write in protest. Is Bezos afraid of Donald Trump's threat of investigations and retributions or is Bezos bending the knee currying favor to Trump to enhance his opportunity to gain even more power, prestige...and money. Liked working here but there was no benefits or job security. I just let my boss know I quit but you can't quit if you were not really ever hired I did about 6 days worth of work for Mr James and we'll see if I'm compensated for it or not. UPDATE. I DID get paid for my work but on a sidenote, I wouldn't work for this company unless your okay with wearing down your car until it breaks. The had 3 different people training me 3 different ways and it gets confusing ,they wanted me to be on the phone the entire time while driving manual to deliver these papers which is not safe. I was told that if I got into an accident to not say I delivered papers or my insurance would drop me. Wasn't worth it to me. And the people that complain on you are just old fuddy duddys and you'll here about that one complaint the entire week! I just couldn't with this job. read more

The Washington Post home delivery is un-acceptable. The home delivery for Fair Lakes , Va delivery person is not doing his job. Many times no paper , wet paper & not deliver properly. I been a loyal customer many years , pay for home delivery. But for some reason he likes to play games with me. Not Satisfactory. Don't get me wrong I Do like the Washington Post. It's the newspaper I grew up with. I recently renewed my subscription to the Washington post for a year and sent in my check to cover a Year's subscription. 2 weeks later I get a bill for the amount that I paid previously! Why is this? When I called they acknowledged that they have been paid and to disregard the bill. Why do they have to send out a bill and waste paper, waste Ink, and waste postage? It seems to me that Mr Jeff Beezos could save money if the subscription Department wasn't wasting money and resources!! The age of newspapers is dying! People get their news from other sources now. It would be foolish for a newspaper to waste resources. It doesn't look good in the public eye. read more

Dirty and horrible place to work avoid at all cost. The warehouse is very noisy, the managers are assholes, and show favoritism.

Unfortunately, after subscribing to this newspaper for more than 15 years they are no longer going to honor a rate of less than $200 for our home delivery. I was told my NEW rate of 25% off would be $422 for the year. Forget it! read more

This newspaper is the most incompetently managed publication I've ever dealt with--ever. For starters they consistently couldn't manage to stop my delivery (yes, some of us still like the actual paper in our hands) when we were away for any extended period time. Added to this is a hostile delivery person named Michael. My husband and I moved to a home with a long drive way and asked that Michael please to be so kind as to drop the paper off at the front door as I suffer from early onset arthritis which can be especially difficult in the morning. (I even tipped him!) Apparently, he didn't think the tip was enough or he felt he didn't need to take the less than 1 minute to walk or 30 paces to toss the paper near the door. No, instead he thinks it's perfectly acceptable to drive up the driveway and, if my car happens to be parked there, to simply drive over my front lawn! Last month we had an expensive irrigation system and turf put in, but that didn't stop Michael from again driving over our lawn. The disrespect is beyond anything we have ever witnessed. And not just from Michael. The Post's costumer service center, while pretending to care, is as completely disrespectful and/or as incompetent as Michael. Since the cost to our new sprinkler system far outweighs the need to have a hard copy newspaper, I called the Post's so-called customer service center to ask them to cancel my service once and for all. I've read the Washington Post for over 20 years, so this is no easy decision but with Michael waging a passive aggressive war against me, and their seeming refusal to discipline him, I find I have no other option. They said my subscription has been canceled. That was Tuesday. As of this morning, Thursday, Michael is still driving up my driveway and depositing a newspaper that I canceled. I can only take this as a act of aggression. I sincerely hope that it isn't a homophobic act (my husband and I are completely open about our sexual orientation.) But it really makes us wonder as we seem to be the only house in our immediate area experiencing this harassment by the Washington Post and one of its delivery persons. Of course, my hope is that this Yelp posting will finally bring this unfortunate situation to the attention of someone at the Post who is capable of doing something to make this nightmare stop. As of now my husband and I are going to have a fence and gate built around our property to protect our investment from Michael's predilection to off-road on our lawn. We would have never thought in our wildest imagination that just asking to have a newspaper delivered to our front door would have resulted in something so incredibly horrible and now expensive. read more
