I might consider using this next week when I have, perhaps, a day or two where I can wait to pick them up. Eco-Express Stopped…read moreby at Eco-Express on July 27, 2018, for my first German public laundry experience ("Waschsalon") as my hotel did not have laundry service. Using Yelp as my guide, I walked the 1.2 km from my hotel to Eco-Express. Upon arrival at Eco-Express, which is located in a good neighborhood, I found a very clean self-serve laundry facility, with 20 washing machines but only 8 dryers. There was no attendant. All of the signage was in German, but luckily with self-explanatory diagrams that even I, as a native English speaker with no German, could understand. (Yes, it would be nice if there were English signs up, as several people came to Eco-Express while I was there, all of whom were English speakers and all of whom were trying to figure out how the laundry worked). So how does the laundry work? You put your clothes & detergent into the clothes washer, note the machine number, go to the central payment machine, put in money (coins or €5 or €10 bills), push the button corresponding to your washing machine, then walk back to your washing machine, select the cycle, push start. My colour wash cycle, on what I assume was the medium temperature, took 45 minutes. If you need detergent or softener, you get it from the detergent vending machine located right beside the payment machine. Same process: you put your money into the central payment machine, push the button for either colour clothes detergent (colorwaschmittel), white clothes detergent (vollwaschmittel), or softener (weichspuler). The detergent vending machine then fills the little blue cup, you take the blue cup to your washing machine, pour the detergent into the washer machine's detergent compartment, and then return the blue cup back to the central detergent vending machine. The dryers work the exact same way. Load the dryer, go to the central payment machine, insert your €1, push the button that corresponds to your dryer, return to your dryer, push the button for the cycle you want (there are 3 heat settings), then push start. For €1 you get 15 minutes of dryer time. Note: the laundry does not sell anti-cling or dryer sheets. Cost for one load of laundry in the washing machine was €3.50, detergent was €.50 & dryer was €1. There is no "drop off" laundry service here. Note: washing machine is €3 per load before 10 AM. Hours of operation are 6 AM to 11 PM everyday. There are no washroom (toilet) facilities. Overall, easy once the process is understood.

In hindsight I should have chosen one of their large machines and saved some money and time (I had to wait for my laundry to finish to do a second load. The other machines finished at about the same time). Then I loaded a dryer with all of my wet clothes and ran it. Basically, you pay 0.70 euro for ten minutes. I ran it three times and my stuff still wasn't dry, so I just took it home that way, since I thought the whole thing was a bit expensive. The annoying part is that you can't (as far as I know) set the dryer to run 40 minutes or a specific number of minutes. Every ten minutes you have to go and pay another 70 cents to run it again. Anyhow, basically it cost about 10 euros for 2 small loads to be washed and somewhat dried. The salon has a seating area, which is nice, but no WiFi. A German review says it has WiFi, but it doesn't. There are two vending machines where you can get pop or caffeinated drinks. I didn't bother. There is also a cafe next door. Don't be surprised if smoke comes in from someone sitting outside smoking. The laundromat does not have anything outside indicating what it is or its name, so you will need to look inside to see that. As for the clothes, they were clean. Unless you use your own detergent though, they won't smell like anything, but they look and feel clean.

Now if you don't read German this laundromat will be difficult to use. There almost isn't an English word in the place lol. So this is what you do: 1.Pick the washer you want. Load it. And remember the number of your washer! 2.Go to the steel payment machine near the door. Look up your washer number so you know how much it costs. Place those coins in the payment machine. Then press the button that is illuminated green. Your machine is now activated. 3. Put your pre wash in bin #1, soap in bin #2 4. Press "Normalwasche" 5. Press the start button. Update: As with most laundromats in Germany the dryers do not seem to work the first ten minutes. It's like the dryer is not hit at all. The dryers in this laundromat is particularly bad. Expect to pay 3 Euro or more to dry your clothes. The drier follows the same procedure. This laundromat isn't fancy but it gets the job done. I actually had to have a nice elderly lady who spoke no English help me figure all of this out. Danke!

In just 35 minutes our clothes will be ready for drying, and there are large tumble dryers in the back that we will use. I highly recommend coming to this laundromat if you are visiting Munich.
