"Damn it, it's laundry day."
-said no Berliner ever
If you have never done your laundry in Berlin before, doing 'em at WaschCafe can be one of your most authentic German experience. Long story short, there is a bar attached to this laundromat.
I'm not sure if there's wifi, but it doesn't really matter. When pints are 2.50 Euros, the internet loses its luster. You can also kill time by playing pool for Jager/YAYger shots. They are also ridiculously cheap so you can feel generous and buy a round for the locals if you wanna shoot the bull with them for a while. (It's the best way to learn about a city, after all!)
The wash takes around 45 to 60 minutes, so you can realistically put your clothes in the machine and go check out the nearby East Berlin Wall Gallery and still make it back to your wet undies. The $2.50 pints become pretty handy since you can chug one down before going to see the wall. The wall art is somewhat trippy, so going tipsy may enhance your viewing experience.
The only frustrating thing about WaschCafe is their dryers. Each drying cycle is only 8 minutes, which is bad news for all your cotton clothing.
"Are the clothes completely dry yet?"
"Nien, Nien, Nien! Let's get another round while we wait for the next cycle."
I guess the dryers were pretty good for their business, but maybe not the best for our livers. We did the drying thing at least 4 times, which translated to quite a few drankz.
At the end of the day, our clothes were clean, our visions were a little distorted, and our memories of Berlin a little fonder. Although WaschCafe wasn't the Reichstag, my day there was probably the best I had in Berlin. Just drinking beer with friends and not worrying about which sightseeing spot to hit up was almost as refreshing as that $2.50 pint. I'd highly recommend this place if you got some dirty socks.

BONUS YELPER LIFEHACK:
If you had one too many drinks at WaschCafe, there is a great place with drunk munchies nearby. Check out Saray Doner just down the block. Don't get scared off by their current 2 star rating, that place is OMG delicious (I had it 3 nights in a row and the only regret I have is not getting it one more time). That Doner Kebab is going to be delicious next to the many beers that you're gonna have. Thank me later. read more
