The U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM) is hosting the 2019 Department of Defense (DoD) Warrior Games June 21-30 at the Tampa Convention Center, MacDill AFB, USF, and the Long Center in Clearwater. Approximately 300 wounded, ill and injured service members and Veterans have descended upon Tampa to participate in the competition. The athletes represent the United States Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, and Special Operations Command. Athletes from the U.K. Armed Forces, Australian Defence Force and Canadian Armed Forces are competing as well.
Teams include active-duty service members and veterans with upper-body, lower-body, spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, visual impairment, serious illnesses, and post-traumatic stress. There are 11 sporting categories including, archery, cycling, shooting, sitting volleyball, swimming, track and field, wheelchair basketball, indoor rowing, powerlifting, and time trial cycling. Let's not forget wheelchair rugby!
