We requested our full federal and state returns so we could see what we were signing, and when we had questions about some of the entries, we were treated as if we were burdening the preparer, Quinn H., and told he would start billing to answer "any more questions." 2) Unpredictable pricing: The firm purports to have transparent pricing, but they would not estimate the cost of preparing our returns. Instead, they pointed us to a pricing sheet. We attempted to estimate the cost ourselves based on our previous year's returns; we were billed nearly twice what we estimated, and then offered a "new client discount" that was still considerably more than we'd paid any other accountant. 3) Don't abide by their own policies/unresponsive: Our new accountant discovered Quinn had made a substantial error in our 2024 return, resulting in significant over-payment to both the IRS and NYS. We brought the mistake to Quinn's attention and requested he amend and refile. Despite R&G Brenner's stated policy that they will fix their mistakes at no cost, Quinn never even responded to any of our emails or voicemails, 4 in total. 5) Even when we were paying clients, they were hard to reach by phone or email. I used them to file my personal taxes in 2016, provided all the accompanying documents, and they omitted a crucial 1099 that resulted in a "substantial tax understatement penalty" that accrued interest until it totaled a penalty of $2,268. I emailed back and forth with Jerry Collett, a Senior Tax Preparer, with proof that he omitted what I provided him for YEARS until he finally ghosted me and I had to reach out to customer service only to be told they had a three-year warranty limit. I get it now, Jerry's job was to slow play me until I became ineligible even though it WAS THEIR ERROR. I had to pay the penalty they caused out of my own pocket. NEVER USE R&G BRENNER UNLESS YOU'D LIKE TO GET SCAMMED.
