University of Florida IFAS Extension has beautiful gardens were you can stroll and see how to raise butterfly plants, create a square foot or raised garden or just chill in a tranquil garden. Behind the main building they have gardens were you can wander, explore and learn. They send out a newsletter, publish a class schedule and offer a plant fair once a year. The best part of this service is that for the most part it is free. There are some nominal charges for materials on classes but if you are nesting both inside and out, you have to check out this place for ideas and great learning opportunities.

I mention this because I was not certain as to whether the old office for the UF Extension still operated there. Which it is not. But the Mable Butler Family Center is there. Must be nice to be an elected official and name a government facility after yourself. If that is the case, then I am renaming the Florida Citrus Bowl as the Big Al Bowl. That's if I am ever elected in office. Anyway, the University of Florida IFAS Extension is there for all your questions for landscaping and gardening. Or even houseplants. They offer free pH soil tests, plant identification, pest identification (not the pests you find at a night club), advice on nutrient deficiencies, plant health, irrigation, and solutions to any problems related to landscaping and gardening. If you are having a problem with a house plant, like I just recently had, you can take the plant there for an analysis. Assistance is offered to both home and commercial landscaping, and agricultural business. Horticulture classes and workshops are offered, along with clinics and tours. You can stop in to the center and pick up any brochures and fliers offering the information that you need. The extension is offering a Urban (Backyard) Chicken Class for those interested on Tuesday, April 12th from 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. You can call 407 254-9208 for more information. So if you have a problem with your sod or soil, problem with a plant or pest, bring a sample to the Extension. They will be more than happy to help you out. The extension plant clinic is open Monday thru Friday from 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., and 1:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.

Since this is not the main campus, the classes offered are smaller which allows the student a more one on one experience with the professors. To go with this, the teachers know their students by name and face recognition. You are not a number here! Also, the campus is well kept and clean. Everything is always so pristine and if anything is out of order it gets cleaned up right away. Overall, the College of Central Florida's Citrus campus is definitely a good start for a freshman in college and really allows you to ease into the life of college and adulthood. Almost brand new, very beautiful grounds right near the ocean, it might even be on the ocean but there is so much landscaping I am not sure, I think it is. Beautiful campus, easy to get in and out. The professors are laid back and the staff was cordial. I learned a lot here. Parking is super close and I felt safe taking night classes. It was great to leave class at 10 at night and feel a warm ocean breeze accompany me to my vehicle. Great fitness center and cute little cafe to grab a quick coffee or snack before class. Would recommend this college.

I went here to enroll my daughter for GED classes and were met by some really great employees in the front office who explained the whole process and cost to us. They made the process quick and painless. The campus we are using is on Simpson Road across from the jail. It has easy access and a large parking lot with multiple handicapped spots. There is also a bus stop down the road. They also offer several certificate programs that we are going to look into next. Great place to the community.
