One of the nicest recreational facilities I've ever been in and a huge stadium (Laramie almost doubles in population during the football games). Yes, it does get below 0 in the winter and boy does that wind blow, but I would rather have winter there than some of the other places I have lived. Free movies on Friday nights in the union and multiple ways to get involved from religious activities to rodeo teams to swing dances on Thursday nights, and big name concerts such as Josh Turner and Brett Eldredge. College town prices in a drinking town. The engineering building is in quite a need of upgrade (feeling more like a dungeon to me), but has great views. One thing I considered before attending here was the small size (which is good if you want more one on one attention with your advisors but bad if your department is a little more clique-y). Another benefit of that was that grad students always got to do some kind of field project or be able to collect their own research. Having the King Air was a huge benefit. It was a tough program, but I'm lucky to have an advisor that didn't give up on me. One thing I didn't appreciate was the greed of the university officials. Here, one of my officemates was not funded for his PhD and my other officemate was not paid for her last semester and had to find an outside job. Meanwhile, they were still bringing in new students to the department and building a shiny new engineering building across the street. While I didn't fully appreciate it while I was there, I find myself missing those open skies and Wyoming sunsets. (And I'm happy to say that I finished grad school debt free because of this university) And P.S., that cowboy logo is everywhere, and I mean EVERYWHERE

My review also incorporates my liking of War Memorial Stadium and the field house (where we went to tailgate). Wish I had more time to visit the campus but time was limited. Go WYO!

We found mixed reviews about camping at the Albany County Fairgrounds, but filtered the comments based on our needs. We only really needed a safe place to park, with full hookups, and a level surface. This location fit the bill. We lucked out and arrived after a recent event had ended that utilized the camping area, and kept everyone else locked out. We were the second RV to pick a spot so we chose the north end where there are three 50 amp hookups, all the others were 30 amp or less for power. The most RV's at one time was 8, but they cycled through most every night. We stayed two nights so we witnessed the turnover. Our spot was near a neighboring business that was cutting up scrap wood, etc. It was a bit noisy early in the day, but the evenings were quiet. There was some livestock in the rodeo grounds area, and some horse trailers came and went based on events going on. There was an indoor shooting range building near the campground, but we did not hear any noise from it while we were there. None of the animals buildings seemed to be in use since the county fair was not happening while we were there. I was able to walk my dog around the grounds without incident, and enjoyed the exercise. There is a railroad track nearby and we could hear the trains running when outside of the RV. There were negative reviews about the smell, but we didn't really mind, since it was the fairgrounds and we expected to encounter that type of aroma. I would definitely stay here again when passing through. It was quiet, the price was good, and we were able feel comfortable staying there.
