HIGHLY recommend Wang's and Gary as a sales and repair shop. Quite a unique situation for us that turned out as making a friend the owner Gary.
We had a pretty specific vehicle need in model. To boot, on a discontinued vehicle. We headed to a dealer in Plaistow whose site listed it but had been sold two days prior, we stopped on the side of the road to google. Looking online at 'find a used car' sites came across the car we were looking for. Although more concerned with model, condition, mileage, Wang's had the same car we had gone elsewhere to Plaistow for, but 2 years newer, 20k fewer miles, same price. Now here is where it got impressive...
Gary Wang/Wang's has been there for over 20 years. A passion in tuning as much as a business, auto tuning as well as sales and general repair. You can SENSE this when you start talking to Gary
After showing us exactly what we asked to see and test driving, we opted to try financing since we intended to pay with forecasted tax refund but in fear we could miss out (again a disco'd model). Financing approved inside 5 minutes
Being the mechanic here as well as sales/finance/business owner, Gary personally selects vehicles he knows wont be a headache for he or the buyer, and personally goes through them prepping for sale. Being a tune shop he also adds remote starts to most of the vehicles... why? because you would like one in your car...
The car we picked had two minor concerns for us. The asking price was below suggested retail. Without hesitation Gary agreed to fix both our concerns before delivery. Deposit left and a pick up date set.
The day of delivery i reached out to say binder on its way and Gary said 'great, looking forward to seeing you' and 'i finished up the car last night'
Upon arrival Gary informed us he had noticed while working he noticed two other things needed doing (neither for inspection but rather just two things HE would want if it were his) and had i done non-dealership would have cost me over $400. He simply did them as a good faith. So we left a few minutes later with the car we wanted at a price we were very happy with with $400 more work than expected, paperwork done exactly the way we discussed because this is how Gary does business.
Regarding other reviews talking about downpayments built into ad prices id say this;
1) if youve ever read ANY used car magazine there isnt an ad that doesnt do this and
2) typically theyre some higher amount like $3000
3) ive never been to a dealer that didnt have a 'doc prep fee'
4) for that a 1 star review is pretty unfair imo
You dont expect buying a car to be easy, and ive never SEEN a dealer do *more than* what was asked 'because its the right thing to do', and ps, i worked at a reputable dealership for 6 years. In my first mention i said making a friend. By the time all was said and done, Gary made us feel more like he was looking out for our best interest as a friend vs trying simply to sell us something. This is rare in someone who every dollar matters to personally. He didnt have to do a remote start but he did. He didnt have to go beyond what we asked him to do but he did. Being NH residents we are a 'let the buyer beware' state in used cars. That withstanding many dealers enjoy and take advantage of the 'tail light warranty' but you get the sense through the process that Gary is looking out for your best interest even when you miss something. I expect this quality of person and business owner to be gone soon with our selfish 'whats in it for me?' society. But in the meantime if I have anyone looking for work or to buy a used car id not hesitate to send them to Gary at Wang's in Pelham. read more
