The Village Green Gallery serves a great niche in Weston. For tourists: The town is in a deadzone for internet, and the cafe offers tables to sit at to check your email. Only, the connection is unreliable in the 6+ times I've visited over the past 2 years. I find the prices for coffee and light pastries to be very expensive, and the service not that great, although there is careful attention paid to keep it all local. In comparison to the tsotchke knick-knacks of the Vermont Country Store and the Weston Village Store, the fine crafted pottery, jewelry, glasswork, and photographs are a breath of fresh air. All the pieces, while expensive, are truly a sight to behold. And there are a handful of intentionally lower-priced items like note cards and glass rings for sale, too. For locals: the Fuji'is host the Weston Film Club for monthly viewings and discussions on foreign and independent films. They also host a book club and open up the space for other community meetings. I highly recommend a viewing (usually during the week) of the Film Club. Pop in to browse! The location right on the West Village Green can't be beat! While this is a favorite, I treat it more like a museum to view the artwork, as there's little there that I can afford there and I've never been wowed by the hospitality of Mrs. Fuji, who's usually behind the counter of the cafe. Look elsewhere for food. Look no further if you need to check your email and want to be inspired by the artwork.

I was very very impressed. The theater portion of the building was basically a large room located above a small art gallery. It held approximately 100 people. I admit, the space was a little tight and a little stuffy, but the theater crew did an admirable job in pulling off the production without a glitch. This artsy organization in this cute little Vermont town will host other things besides musicals. They host a rotating art gallery. They conduct art classes. They host lectures. They host dramas. Etc.. Check out their schedule online. One last thing. The people running the show seemed super nice and super friendly. Even though tickets were sold out on the night I visited the staff members did everything in their power to get me in. They got me in.

It's a small but mighty and lovely shop that houses products from 15+ local member artists and 20+ local consignors. The artists take turns running the shop and are very proud of their co-op. If you're even so much as nearby Montague, you simply must stop here. It's really hard to describe such a place. Its jam-packed full of expertly curated paintings, photos, jewelry, scarves, knick-knacks, sculptures, cards and more. No two artists are the same. You can get lost for a very, very long time browsing the selections and getting to know the works of each artist. I mean, just look at my photos below. It is too much fun to turn the corner in the gallery and stumble across something new and colorful. I'm really regretting not purchasing a few wearable art pieces and a pen-and-ink art print of an owl. If you need a gift for someone (or you're like me, and every day is Treat Yo' Self day), Sawmill is a no-brainer of a stop. Not only are you getting an exceptional, handmade gift, but you're supporting local artists and keeping this interesting collaboration thriving. There is framed art hanging in the hallways but the most amazing part is the center meeting place of the former lodge. The walls and ceiling have been painted in beautiful modern Russian paintings. Excellent artwork from local artists - vibrant colors…read more As I was staring at a few pieces that kind of look familiar...I was informed they were Woody Jackson - his claim to fame was designed the Ben and Jerry's cartons. Neat! I bought some cards with his artwork. I also loved the steel sculptures by Jean Pierre Schoss, especially the tiny ones. Cute! I read online they are made from recycled steel oil tanks.

Many of the artists use local materials in their work, often referencing the surrounding NY/VT area through the paintings, wood, basketry materials, photography, and other forms. There are on going exhibits in the small gallery in the back which features regularly updated shows from area artists, co op members, and crafters. Just a stroll through the shop is inspiring and worth the trip. They also have an online shop which allows you to see samplings of the work available. I highly recommend it!
