It is located in a good place and I enjoy my visits here when I get the chance to go here! I visited here this year to do some paperwork and computer work and update my resumes here and the staff was so nice and helpful. I found myself roaming the library and enjoyed art pieces that were beautiful! They keep updates of local things going on like art classs and etc I just appreciate this library and the peace you get here! Photos located below. The front three panels read, "Josh White was born in Greenville on Dean Street in 1914. Only a decade later, and after the tragic loss of his father, he became what was known as a "guide boy" for blind musicians. and traveled throughout the south, beginning his own musical journey. During this time, he honed his technique, playing traditional spirituals and later secular music. Developing what would become his signature style. The Piedmont Blues. "By the 1950's, Josh White had established an international reputation having traveled throughout Europe and Scandinavia. His celebrity was reflected in the televised production of the "Josh White Show" in Stockholm, in 1962. "Josh White was an eloquent and powerful voice for justice, equality and civil rights. I will admit that I did not know the "name" of this bridge despite having walked across it…read morecountless times, although it has only been known by this name for the past couple of years. It's not the expansive Liberty Bridge that is most commonly associated with the Reedy River downtown, but it is a convenient and heavily foot-trafficked crossing just up the river that many people recognize. It's located parallel to Main Street and can be accessed by stairs on either side. The bright green bridge connects with the Swamp Rabbit Trail on one side and the sidewalks that go through the Wyche Pavilion and Peace Center amphitheater on the other. The bridge crosses over the Reedy right where there are concrete structures, looking somewhat like a dam, that are part of an old railroad trestle. The water spills over here providing lots of white noise, especially in combination with the other nearby water features and wall fountains.

This marker is along Main Street in downtown Spartanburg in front of what's now a pub/restaurant…read more It points out the history of a doctor who fought for women's right to vote. The marker reads, "Dr. Rosa H. Gantt. Suffrage leader & Physician. A founding member of South Carolina Equal Suffrage League in 1914. Medical offices located on Morgan Square." It is marker number 86 and it was sponsored by the William G. Pomeroy Foundation in 2021. Online, there is more information. "Dr. Love Rosa Hirschmann Gantt (1874-1935) is thought to be the first woman physician in Spartanburg, South Carolina, with her medical offices located on Morgan Square. Born in Camden, South Carolina, she graduated from the Medical College of South Carolina in 1901. Gantt established a private practice working as an ear, nose, and throat specialist in Spartanburg, and was also involved in public health initiatives throughout the state. "As a founding member of the South Carolina Equal Suffrage League in 1914, Gantt advocated for women's right to vote. She was a leader in the fight for suffrage, having been appointed Legislative Chairman of the South Carolina Equal Suffrage League. In 1915, Gantt spoke before the South Carolina House Judiciary Committee to garner support for the submission of a women's suffrage amendment to the state constitution. "Although South Carolina suffragists were unsuccessful at the state level, finally, on August 18, 1920, women across the United States achieved the right to vote with the passage and subsequent ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment." This marker is at the top of the hill above the Taylors Mill factory that has been converted to a…read moreshopping center. It is on the side of the road in front of one of the few remaining home structures and while the home is private property, you can still see it from the road and right-of-way. Worth a stop if you're heading to 13 Stripes or The Farehouse. The marker reads on the front, "This is one of more than fifty houses built in 1923-24 for employees of Southern Bleachery, a textile processing plant opened at the east end of Mill St. in 1924. The mill village and plant were designed by J.E. Sirrine & Co. The village and nearby area included churches, stores, schools, a gold course, and tennis courts used by workers." And on the reverse, "Housing for the plant's overseers was located here on what became known as "Boss Hill." The house on this corner was home to mill superintendents and was the largest of eight Craftsman-style cedar-shake bungalows and garages built on the hill. Houses in the village were company-owned until 1965, when Southern Bleachery closed after several decades as the largest employer in Taylors."
