Went to Sonora Walmart om 04/19/20. Only 1 out of every 25 people were wearing masks. If employees are required to wear them, so should people in the stores. What is so moronic is that people think that going to Walmart is a field trip. There were whole families in there with children and babies. Children should not be allowed to cut down on crowds. There is nothing more frightening when you are going down an aisle, which are marked with one way arrows, and here comes a family herd of people going the wrong way coming toward you. The aisles are not even 6 ft wide. Have some consideration for others. You are not the only people in the world. read more

The Sonora WalMart is holding all it's make up hostage. They have imprisoned, in lock down, all their make up and you have to find a jailer to release it. The problem is they have recently cut back on staff, as well. Today, there were seven ladies (and one lonely husband) in the aisle waiting. Several people had ventured out to find help, only to be told that someone would get to us when they could. Knowing my rights (and the imprisoned make ups rights) I decided to use the one phone call. Standing in the middle of WalMart, I called WalMart on the phone. I was, also, told that when they could get around to it someone would be sent. NO, I will purchase my makeup elsewhere, thank you very much!! All of us left at this point. WalMart, I truly believe, you are losing MORE to non sales than you are saving in anti theft. I had never been in a Walmart before moving to the foothills. However, this is the only department store near us so we use it a couple of times a month for miscellaneous items. I get very frustrated with the number of items they have under lock and key - you have to find a salesperson, get the cabinet unlocked, and then they won't give you the item, you have to get up to the checkout stand and request it. Ridiculous. So for that reason I would rate them three stars. However, today we purchased a Ninja coffee maker, made the trek home, opened the box only to find coffee grounds in the brew basket, and actual coffee in the decanter. The water reservoir was very damp and the filter in the bottom of it had water in it. I understand retailers sell returned items, but I cannot believe Walmart would knowingly repackage it without at least cleaning the item. Disgusting. Hence the one-star review. read more

The customer service at this WalMart is the worse. No one is willing to help you, even if you are buying a high price item such as a computer or any other electronic item. They act as if they are too busy to help you, even though they were standing around talking to another employee. I will seriously consider going to another town to purchase. Went to the store at 9:50 pm cuz it said it closes at 11 Online and in the store window. The doors were locked and an rude employee named Jessica rudely stated that the store closed at 10 even though I was there at 9:50 and all I needed was food for my 30 min lunch. She gave attitude and was completely rude and tried correcting me when I said that the hours weren't correct online or in the window. read more

I only come here when I cannot find what I need at literally any other location. The employees are rude, no one is ever available to help you, and even if they are, they make it feel like you are a burden on them. They block the aisles when stocking items and get mad AND YELL AND THROW THINGS DOWN IN FRUSTRATION when you go to chose your item near them or their cart. The store is dirty and items never get restocked. The produce is already rotting when you buy it. They need to fix their self-check out machines. Twice mine has frozen on me, and the poor older lady couldn't do anything about it and called for help multiple times and no one came to help her. I waited for over 10 minutes both times standing awkward by a broken machine. Only for someone to finally show up and say that it's broken and have me move to another machine and start all over, with no apology for the inconvenience at all. Also, can we not treat every customer like they are a criminal and check their receipts and have to scan an item from their cart or bag holding up the line? Since the last remodel or renovation or whatever happened when the grocery part was added -- it's IMPOSSIBLE! Half the checkouts aren't manned in busy times, the few-items checkouts aren't up and running, and it is CRAZY MAKING if one has 4 store items to get behind someone who has done their weekly grocery shopping with 45 items in their basket. Nothing wrong with food shopping at Walmart but the management MUST make arrangements to accomodate them AND the trying-to-be-loyal customers who are just buying a few store items. Hate being angry and frustrated to leave Walmart. They also need more in-store clerks - when they ARE found, they are helpful, but so few-! Good to be able to express extreme irritation about the checkout situation, but this is a higher level management issue. How nice to imagine that these complaints would be heard -- and addressed. This is the second time i went to this sonora walmart for an oil change. There was one car in the slot..i shopped for over 2 1/2 hours. I went back to check out and my car was not done...3 employees were still working on the same car that was there when i pulled in. This is the second time this has happened..nit only are the shelves and meat dept always empty, but 21/2 hours and i still cant get my oil changed....i usually go down the hill into stockton and not only does my oil get changed i get a free car wash. Not the gas station kind but several people cleaning..i only go to sonora if im pressed for time. There are a lot of walmarts and i have to say this one is the worst. read more

This is the best entertainment in Sonora. Its li like going to the Circus. I came to buy cleaning solution for my shaver. They had it locked up i a cabnet. I asked someone to get it out for me. They said they have to put it into a clear plastic box so i would not steal it. Are you f___ing kidding me. I went to the check out and paid for everything i paid with my atm card and when prompted i requested $100 back. I pulled out the cash for my sons weekend allowance. Got to the car and realized they didnt give me the $100. At that point i was made to feel like a criminal for there stupidity. A manager said she had to look at the video. I said thats ok can you just bring the $100 out to my house after figuring out i wasnt lying. They asked me to wait and they found out i wasnt lying or trying to pull one over on them. I had historically had decent luck with the grocery pick up services. However today my order was over 2 hours late. I finally got the email saying it was ready so I hurried down to get it only to sit in the car waiting for so far over 20 minutes. When I called they said there was another person ahead of me so I am guessing the wait will be well over 30 minutes.... with screaming tired kids in the car. The convenience of this services is exactly that.... however I feel I would have been better off to go in and grab the few things I needed. read more

I visited Walmart to get AA batteries to find out they have them locked up with only one person in the whole store with a key , waited over 20 minutes to get her to open the case she could not give me the batteries they had to go to a check stand then I could buy them there was a very long line only 2 checkers open in the whole store. This is unacceptable I felt like a criminal for just wanting to buy batteries? IS this the way to run a business? My usual Sunday grocery trips with my two daughters started off great, everyone is always there to help when needed. Walmart always has what I need all in one place with very easy access. As we were going to check out we picked the shortest line much like everyone else. Today, we just happened to pick the wrong line. The cashier we got decided that she was going to slam our desired items onto the bagging area causing multiple items to fall. Then the cashier decided that she was going to tell a consumer of their products to calm down just because we politely asked for bags. Luckily there was a store manager right there to quickly step in and remove the employee from our area. The cashier moved away but then kept creeping back in a taunting manner. Which then the manager told her to go back to customer service area once more which she did. But as we passed she glared at us and the manager had to step in between us and the cashier once more. We had to be escorted out because the manager wanted to make sure that we were safe and that the employee was not going to hurt us in any way, shape or form. We pay way to much money to be treated this way. read more

Super rude & racist staff. I was buying near $300 dollars in items here and when they went to ring up $15 in White Claws the store lead i think her name was Sara said everyone needed to show id. My wifes 43, im 39, my autistic brother is 24 & we had our three daughters ages 14, 9 & 2... Everyone needed to show id? Thats crazy we are on a family vacation at Twain Harte lake at a cabin about three hours away from home. I let the store lead know that ridiculous & that i wanted to talked to someone above her. Then she said she's the manager & that theres no one above her. I asked what law or walmart policy she was citing and she said her own. I told her i regularly shop at lot of walmart locations in the bay area and have never encountered this. Then under her breath i heard her say (something Mexicans) Then she had another employee come & listen to only her side of the issue then that employee said she was going to deny the sale. I said aren't you going to listen to what your customer has to say & she said no. I told that employee thats bad to treat your customers that way and she said she only needs to hear what the store lead had to say. The store lead threatened many time over to deny and cancel our groceries & goods purchases. Pretty racist to mess with a family on vacation. Then we were surrounded by a bunch of white women store employees saying that they witnessed everything when they didn't unless you just have 3 employees standing around doing nothing. Employees attesting to hearing something someone said under their breath when they weren't around is super racist. I love walmart. I can believe my family had to witness this behavior. read more

I know its the busy time of year for customer service but 45 minutes in a line to check out is not okay. The poor lady in front of me had 4 gift certificates and 4 or 5 random items. That's it!! First the cashier rand up the gift certificates all at once. Didn't work. Calls for a manager. 10 minutes later she clears it. Second she rings them up separate then pays. Didn't work. Calls for a manger. 15 minutes later she clears the transaction. Rings them up again!! It works!! no going on 35 minutes. Rings up the items try's to pay. Card declined. Probably cause she just got charged a bunch of times for the gift cards. Calls for a manager. One walks by and says I'm on my 5th hr you're going to have to get someone else. The cashier is just standing there not knowing what to do!! I've been waiting now for 45 minutes with no one offering to help me move to a new lane. All my stuff was on the belt and it was a big order. 45 minutes and I didn't get my stuff!! That is not how you treat costumers!!! Get it together Wal-Mart!! read more

Walmart the organization corporation is set up and really protects and helps its employees and offers a lot of kickbacks good retirement , 401k and it's very fair in the hiring practices. If you noticed different areas depending on the geographic locations the people are of different class. I've been shopping at Walmart since they open in California. Certain areas have classier people working more respect , more helpful and different attitude. Then you have a small town ones out in the boonies people raised on farms out the dirt and this is what you get in Sonora clueless worn out drug attic's and they give the store a bad rap. A lot of the people here don't have good work ethic's they are rude they stand and are visiting in the isles with their little group in your way There are a few that work in Walmart that actually takes pride in their job but they are not the locals. The management that open this Walmart store was from the bay area and I knew him personally and he had the store running in tiptop shape . Marcus was an excellent manager and everybody in the store at that time was upbeat doing their job and respectful so maybe goes falls back on the management they must be lazy. read more

I go there often and all the clerks are excellent except Terry at the back door. Saw her get in a customer's face and harass her about something not very important. Get rid of people like this they ruin business. Seen problems in the auto repair dept. One clerk took a customer's keys home for lunch and the gal had to wait until he got back. They forgot to put my valve stem caps on and another time stripped the oil pan nut/screw on my son's car and his dad had to replace it which was no fun. He yelled all day about this screw up. I will say it is a good experience for most shopping except for Terry and take your auto somewhere else. read more

I used to go to Walmart all the time for everything i could ask for, they do have a large variety after all. After today though I will never spend another dollar in a Walmart store ever again. I received possibly the worst customer service I have ever received by an incompetent employee who couldn't care less about me. All I wanted to do was purchase a case of twisted tea and the abomination at the counter assumed the person behind me was with me. She refused to sell it to me on the grounds that we were together; when clearly that was not the case. If i knew her name I would've called her manager and made a more formal complaint. My car's tire unexpectedly popped on the way back from Yosemite and the auto department was willing to stay late on a Sunday to lend a helping hand. I can't understand the negative reviews for this Walmart. I guess some people just have to be negative and overly critical. My wife and I vacation a few times a year near Sonora and have consistently found this store near exceptional for Walmart. Especially as compared to the bay and Central Valley walmart stores which we just try to avoid at all costs. The store is very well stocked the staff have always been friendly and helpful and the prices are reasonable. This review is not a one time opinion but a long term observation of this big box store. Crowded. It was just really crowded. We came in to check out the store and I was overwhelmed by the amount of people shopping. It seemed like a usual Walmart with their items and layout. Items were out of place, a bit messy. I couldn't tell if they didn't have enough employees to clean or they're just lazy. We eventually found our couple of items. Checking out, the checker was rude. Having Amazon mail me an item may be faster. Bottle of Vodka AA batteries New Razor After Shave and an HDMI cable Go grab a bottle of Vodka. Oh wait its locked up. push the button and wait. 15 min later here comes someone with a key. "I'll take it to the register." Wonder around looking for batteries They are locked up too. at least they are near the registers. I need a new Razor. Get to the razor blades and there is a locked glass door. Fine Push the button. 6 minutes later here they come with the Key. go grab my HDMI cable. Again I wait, Why? oh they are locked up as well. wait till they come and unlock it. they want to ring me up there. when I tell them i still have shopping to do they look agitated but tell me it will be up at the register. do some more shopping. remember I need Aftershave. yes it is locked up too. I finally had enough and just say forget it. I go up to the registers. They have like 26 registers but 5 are open, the lines are like 8 people deep. wait at the register. Pay for my purchase. Now they have the nerve to ask me to Buy a bag (California Law). I go to leave and have to wait inline to leave the store because they want to see everyone's receipt. Next time Ill get my stuff on Amazon for cheaper, Play some video games and it will be here the next day. Yeah it is still a wait but waiting around walmart or waiting in my living room? this seems like a no brainer. read more

The new California ammo laws are terrible enough, but Walmart (specifically this one) REFUSES to use any other method of ammo sales except a real ID, passport, or birth certificate. My first ever WalMart. Since we moved to Groveland, this was the first WalMart I ever visited. With the new expansion, I understand this will now be a Super WalMart, soon. I make this a 5 star review especially for Joe's service in the wireless department. I ordered a Straight Talk phone activation kit online for 99 cents! I was unable to get the SIM card seated. I drove to Sonora and waited for Joe as he patiently helped another person get their voicemail working. Finally he got to me and spent at least 1/2 hour working on my old Verizon Samsung Note 3 and finally got success. This is the best service and price for celluar, ever. The Straight Talk plan and coverage is a WalMart miracle of a deal. Nearly all their associates are very nice people, dog friendly and helpful But Joe in wireless is the man; Thank you Joe. read more

While the prices are good, and it is a convenient place to buy a variety of necessities, from food to pharmacy, and clothing to cleaning supplies, I've noticed a steady decline in customer service and stock of regularly purchased items. In regards to customer service, the blame lies squarely on the general manager. The store is routinely under-staffed. Besides a lack of open check-out lanes, there is almost always a machine down in self-check. The other main customer service issue has been the lack of carts available in-store. Customers enter the store, find no carts available, and have to go back out into the parking lot to retrieve one themselves. Concerning grocery items not in stock, many of the regularly purchased items, especially the Store brand items, are routinely out of stock: pizza, nut bars, steak burritos, sub sandwiches, 12-packs of store brand yogurts, cheeses, Great Value wheat bread, etc. I don't choose to buy the more expensive brands in their place. I go to a competitor nearby. Most of the employees have demonstrated at least pretty good customer service. The problem is with management, I'm convinced. Please rethink your strategy. It's sometimes frustrating to shop there. read more

A few days ago I was looking to get some new tires for my truck. I called Walmart to get a quote on four new tires and I ended up having to call twice to even get someone from the tire and lube center to pick up the phone. The person I spoke with was extremely rude and rushed me off the phone with a dollar amount but did not explain what tired I would be getting for that amount or what my other options were. I decided to go in to the store to try to speak with someone and get some more information. I waited in the tire and lube center for about 20 minutes while employee after employee walked past me telling me they were busy and could not help me. Finally an employee came up to the counter there so I stepped forward to talk to him. He rudely told me that he was helping someone else. I understand that he was apparently with another customer but he did not apologize or tell me that he would be with me as soon as he could. While this employee was still at the counter, another employee came out from the back area and the original employee told him there was a customer. The employee that had come from the back said that he was moving tires so he couldn't help any customers. It was at this point that I decided to leave and go somewhere else. I ended up going to Doherty Tires and had a very pleasant experience. You can read my review on their page if you would like more information about my experience with them.
