I visited the Tupelo JCPenney on 3/18. I was surprised to see a beautiful organized store. With the…read morerecent decline of department store and mall closures I expected to see limited merchandise, but I was pleasantly surprised. I received a $50 JCPenney gift card for Christmas, but shortly after the first of the year the Huntsville, AL JCPenney closed and I didn't have an opportunity to use my gift card. I really liked the merchandise selection and they had all sizes at the Tupelo store. I was able to quickly find what I wanted in my size and desired colors. So I would give 4 stars for the store and merchandise. The check-out process was not so great. It took forever to checkout, not because they were busy but because the JCPenney checkout process is atrocious. It took three cashiers to finally check me out and the card swipe process because I was using a gift card is horrible. I almost gave up and walked out. So I would give the personnel and check out process 2 stars. So 4 stars and 2 stars average to be 3 stars.

Mitchell's advertises itself as a home owned Supermarket in the Guntown community, since 1979. The…read morestore definitely feels like the smaller, local Mom and Pop shops a lot of us grew up with, in the South. The store is on the smaller side in the contemporary world of truly super-sized stores, but should have everything you're looking for in a traditional grocery store. In my experience, they have easily the best, consistent pricing on steaks and meat, in the greater Tupelo area. I also enjoy subtle details like their large selection of Mitchell's branded seasonings, that specifically cover everything from seafood, to pork chops, to ribs and brisket. From mild to spicy, and regional, from New Orleans to Texas style(s). The store is well laid out, clean and tidy. The staff is always friendly and helpful; they are more than happy to help you to your car, should you need it. They also hold a weekly grocery lotto, worth about $50. Would definitely recommend.

There is a small dining area for people wanting to stay in out of the weather. There is a KFC just down the road, but there is probably more fried chicken sold through this grocery store. The smell of chicken hits you in the parking lot. The store itself is OK. It has a pretty good variety of foods. It can lean a little heavy on generic brands, but some of those can be pretty good. The meat selection is pretty extensive. For a store, in a town with a population in the 5,000s, it is odd that I find frozen pizza dough here, yet I can't find it in my town of 15,000. Since Food Giant only has one other grocery store to compete with it would be easy for them to let the cleanliness and quality slip, but it is always clean and well-stocked.
