Funny, I would have been happy with a simple BBQ, but this ended up so much better...After a very nice, slow boat trip around the lake with a few adult beverages and a stop at Krogh's for a couple beers we all had a nice buzz going before we even showed up for our reservation. Though we were a few minutes late, they kept our reservation and we were seated immediately by a very nice hostess. She seated us with our menus and jumped into the drink and food specials. They had some interesting sounding food specials (though no one decided to partake), but what sounded really great were the drinks. My wife had a cucumber gin and tonic that was a) huge and b) absolutely amazing. I never thought of muddling a cucumber in a G&T but it worked. I had a jalapeño margarita. Ummmm HOLY $HIT this was one of the best drinks I've ever had. Seemed to me like it was a regular margarita with a couple slices of jalapeño and either a little muddled jalapeño or some jalapeño juice. It still had the sweet margarita flavor, but it finished with a slight kick in the back of the throat when the jalapeño heat came through. Seriously, this is enough to make me want to come all the way back out here. As for our meal, we had a very nice dinner. The menu isn't extensive - which is fine if you do everything great rather than a huge menu where everything is just ok. My wife ordered a burger with fries-very simple yet very good. A Black Angus Burger topped with oven-roasted tomatoes, Chevre cheese and roasted garlic aioli on a challah roll. I got to eat half of it and it was done perfectly and the cheese and roasted garlic aioli really gave this burger an interesting flavor. The fries were nothing special, but after our drinks they also hit the spot. I ordered Chef Jake's Mac & Cheese...if Chef Jake had come to our table I would have kissed him this was so friggin' good. They start with Orechiette pasta and put it in a creamy lobster bisque and toss in chunks of lobster and whole shrimp-big chunks of lobster...then they mix it with melted Gruyere and bake it so the top develops a crisp crust. The whole thing was about as perfect a Mac & Cheese as I could have had anywhere. Again I say HOLY $HIT! Our hosts shared the Arugula and Spinach salad and the NY Strip...looked delicious as well. After dinner we were stuffed so we got back on the boat and sobered up on the water (our 'driver' was, of course, sober while guiding us around the lake and back to her house). What a great night!

With love in my heart, for now, I've got to walk this one back a bit…read more While they are trying their best to improve certain aspects of the operation by adding and pushing things like a new simulator and moving the pro shop to it's new (final?) home in the basement on the back side of the main building, what it comes down to for me is the course. There are still too many holes with tee boxes that have been in a modified location for over a year with seemingly no work having been done on where things are supposed to be (12 and 16). Certain greens like 10 are in bad shape - browned out and not fully mowed when we most recently played a few weeks ago. On the topic of mowing, that was semi-lacking as well. Some holes had fairways that more resembled light rough and the rough was well...rough. This course has a lot of character and is excellent if you're someone that likes scenery, a challenge but nothing so hard as to be intimidating, non-muni style courses where the holes just go back and forth because they sure as hell don't here. If you're coming on one of the deal days/times like Tuesday when they charge $30 or Saturday mid-day for a few hours when it's $40 I guess it's a good deal but right now to pay the full freight of $55 or even $70 is really a poor ROI for the playing public.

Only issue were golfers parked in the area where we would pull in for valet parking. Valet workers had to ask them to move so we could approach front door. It seems there was a communication issue. They saw so many cars piled up and parked in the entrance that they assumed there was not valet parking available.

We especially loved those olive rolls - I would love to take some home with me...LOL (They remind me of the olive rolls I get at the Summit Farmers Market in the summer.) Food was good, and the chocolate cake was great. I just wish service had been on par with what was expected from a country club. When a latecomer arrived, they weren't even offered a drink until much later. (The waitress had JUST brought someone else a drink, and completely ignored the newly arrived guest.) Many times we also had to get rid of our own plates. It wasn't until we were ALL completely finished with dessert that coffee was offered. It's really a shame that it had to end on that note, but perhaps it was just an off day. I would try it again and give them another chance.

Easily one of the best appetizers on the menu. I had the pork chop which was thick and juicy and my buddy had the salmon, blackened. Could have been a little spicier for me, but tasty nonetheless. We shared bananas foster for dessert-prepared tableside. Bring the kids for this one, they'll love it. After dinner we went downstairs to the bar for a nightcap and were greeted by Ed, a guy that really loves his job and his "office" which overlooks the lake. I had a Remy (served warm - yummy) and my host had an ice cold beer, Stone IPA I believe. We ended up staying and chatting with the bartender, a funny guy, and a few other members who were there for a quick bite at the bar. Yes, bar food in a country club! They wouldn't stop raving about the burgers! Dress is casual but neat. I was a little overdressed but felt right at home after removing my jacket and tie. All in all it was a great experience. Based on my visit, I look forward to returning. Next time I'll leave the suit and tie at home.
