Not only the worst haircut I've experienced, but an experience that led to me speaking with the police and refusing to be ripped off by the owner.
Here's how it happened:
I took my three kids -- a 2-year old girl, a 5-year old boy and an 8 year old boy -- in for haircuts. My wife and I asked for two buzzcuts for the boys and a trimming around the bangs for the girl. Buzzcuts are advertised on the store's front window for $10, which is why we decided to try this place despite it's slightly sleezy location (it's basically a guy and his wife that live in the motel and use part of it to cut hair, as we found out when we walked in).
I left my wife with the kids and ran to the grocery store to get a few things. I came back about half an hour later and the cuts were done. The problem: the owner wanted to charge me $60!
I asked how he got to $60 for three small kids' haircuts, and he informed me that my wife asked if he could leave the top of the boys' hair a little longer than the sides. Apparently, in this owner's rip-off-the-customer-fantasy-world, that means that it's no longer a "buzz cut" and a full fledged adult cut, which costs $17. More for the girl.
I asked the owner if he explained to my wife that having the top a little longer would nearly double the price of the haircut, and he said "she didn't ask". I then told him that I wasn't going to pay $60 for three kids' haircuts that took less than 10 minutes each, and he said he was calling the cops.
I sat there in disbelief until the police came. Long story short, I paid $40 for the haircuts.
The next day, I rode my bike over and wrote down the address of the business. I was about 100 feet away from the shop, but the owner saw me, came out, and started shouting racial epitats to me ("why don't you go back to China?" -- I'm half Japanese, but I don't expect the owner of this place to understand that Japan and China are different countries, or that I am as American as he is).
I would be surprised if this business lasts another six months -- the police told me that they've received a lot of complaints about this particular businessman.
