Schimunek Funeral Home - Arrangement Office

Schimunek Funeral Home

Smooth experience…read more All our questions were answered with patience, and we had lots of questions and add-ons while planning for both a gathering and the actual funeral using two sites (funeral home and church). Everything went smoothly. After the initial consultation with Rebecca, Jessica was with us at every step, and I appreciate her efficiency and professionalism. Good experience with Schimunek Bel Air while going through the sadness of laying my husband to rest.

DO NOT ORDER FLOWERS FROM the funeral home WEBSITE. After I did and the flowers didn't show; every…read moresingle employee said "You shouldn't have done that. They mess up orders all the time." Well then take it off the website!!!! I ordered a beautiful wreath and it never showed because the website links to an anywhere flower delivery service that takes the order and your money even if they can't make the delivery. I was told the truck was already out in that area today we can deliver tomorrow. No one called to notify me even though they required my number to order. By the time I finally found out which service it was (by checking my bank account) All the local florists were closed. They just assumed I would say deliver tomorrow. Well, tomorrow didn't work for me. I asked the funeral home why they haven't taken the link down and they said I don't know it should have happened a long time ago. Everyone there is nice and I am sure the family was probably happy with arrangements but, this is foolish. I don't live in Bel Air so I had to assume the funeral home would link to a local reputable florist on the website. That is not true.

He was buried at the cemetery at Ft. Indiantown Gap, and each time I visit my home state of Pennsylvania I stop by to see his grave site. The cemetery is very well maintained and has clean restroom facilities. It's also usually quiet whenever I'm here, and I never had any issues with parking spaces. Entry from the highway is rather easy, whether you're arriving here from Route 72 or Interstate 81. If you're in Central PA, be sure to stop by and look. There's even a useful computer kiosk at the visitors center where you can look up grave sites, too.

I'd driven past signs for the Pennsylvania Veterans Memorial multiple times but never stopped. On a…read morevery early morning trip back to DC, in no particular hurry, I took the exit off route 78 and within less than a mile, found myself turning onto the American flag lined driveway. It was a stunning first impression. The majestic flags billowing in the pre-dawn light, a light misty fog lingering in the rainy air. The complex is expansive with rolling lawns and cemeteries. It immediately reminded me of Arlington. I followed the signs down roads that twist and turn, until finally I came to the memorial. It's vastness surprised me. I'll admit, after living in DC for a time, I didn't think a monument in rural Pennsylvania could compare. The parking lot was empty, not a soul in sight, which only added to the somber mood and grayness of the day. The way the monument is designed, it gave me the feeling of both despair and hope. The entranceway is grand and proud. Marble foyers are smooth and hard. The row of fountains spout with jubilee. The trees breathe life. But the relic of a burned out European building reminds you why are there and of the many veterans of WWII who sacrificed for you. It is a memorial that rivals any in DC. There are clean and modern bathrooms onsite.
