    Hallandale Beach City Cemetery

This is a historic cemetery located in the City of Hallandale Beach. This seven acre cemetery is…read moreover a hundred years old and contains many of the city pioneers. A handwritten work order for the cemetery dates back to 1904. I walked around the older part of the cemetery and I found a veteran's grave from the Spanish American War ( (April 21 - December 10, 1898). The graves on the older side have people who were born in the 1800's. Unfortunately the location of a lot of the older graves have been lost through the years. If a family didn't purchase a headstone, there was no marker on the grave site. Other names eroded on concrete stones from decades ago. The city has made an effort to preserve as many graves as possible and the cemetery is neat and free of debris. There aren't monuments like Woodlawn in West Palm Beach but there is a lot of Hallandale history if you dig in. The cemetery is still accepting burials and the newer graves are on the other side of the cemetery. Visiting hours are from 7:30 AM to dusk daily.

( They strung us along for 4 months with no burial!) We couldn't take the stress any longer and hired Sea Burials. It was the best decision we ever made and worth every penny. With Neptune you are not permitted to be on the boat. With Sea Burials you have the choice of attending on the boat or not and they can provide a video for you of the ceremony for those family members not able to attend. We chose to be on the boat with Capt. Mike, who could not have been more wonderful. He was understanding, compassionate, and professional. We had never been through this before so Capt. Mike handled the "transfer" from Neptune Society to our biodegradable floating urn. And when it came to editing the video, Capt. Mike was not only dedicated, he also displayed the patience of Jobe! Our tragic situation was handled with grace and respect. I highly recommend Sea Burials and Capt. Mike

However, when returning for the unveiling, it all went downhill. I'm talking about one man in the office and one man of the grounds crew driving the golf cart. When we arrived, it was raining, I went inside to make sure that our previously made arrangements with Courtney were being followed. A tent and chairs were requested. The chairs were there completely filled with water, like tiny swimming pools. The tent was nowhere to be seen. I asked the man in the office if we could please have our tent because it was raining, he replied "there is an overhang, unless the rain is driving sideways you will be fine." I did tell him the name of the person we were here for, and he should have known that there is no overhang where we were sitting. Therefore, we would not be protected. We went outside to make sure that what I had said was true. Lo and behold, there is no overhang. There is one on the side of the mausoleums, not where we were. In any case, a man comes by, a supervisor I assume, driving a golf cart with crew members walking along with him. I went over and said, "excuse me, sir, do you have any towels we might use to wipe off the chairs?" He looked at me blankly and replied "we don't have any towels." He then proceeded to throw a dirty, small yellow rag at me. As you can imagine, at an unveiling, for my family member, I was not in the mood. I walked quietly to the seats to wipe them off, where I discovered the mini swimming pools. There was a kindly looking crewmember near me, I asked him if he had any towels for me. He very nicely took the rag from my hand, produced his own as well, and proceeded to wipe all the chairs off. At least there's one crewmember that looks kindly upon people in their sadness. These may seem to be small or petty indiscretions by the staff. The inconsiderate office manager, the rude crew supervisor, the incompetent person who handled the unveiling reservation. I can assure you if you were burying a family member you would not be in the mood for this nonsense either.
