W Cocker and Sons & Swiftcover Car Insurance is a partnership made in hell.
Our car was struck by a passing vehicle whilst parked outside our house causing scratch marks on the front right wing and a small mark on the alloy wheel. Once we had obtained the insurance details of the driver we contacted Swiftcover to set the wheels in motion to get the repairs done.
Swiftcover recommended a local repair centre and dissuaded us from using an official Nissan repair centre as it would take longer to organise and may cost more, a cost we would have to pay.
The recommended repair centre, W Cocker and Sons, had good reviews online so we decided it would be OK to go with them.
We were also offered a courtesy car despite the fact that we had not selected this on our policy, the reason being that Swiftcover would claim the cost of the courtesy car from the other insurance company. Since our car is a 7 seater we were given a similar car.
When we collected our car, a week later, we were met at W Cocker by a rep from the hire car company who took the courtesy car. We were then shown our car.
1. Our car is black, the paint used was a grey colour.
2. The front right alloy, which had been marked in the accident, had been swapped with the back left wheel, possibly in an attempt to make it look like a repair had been done.
3. Someone had been in the boot, I cannot think of a reason they would need to go in there.
4. The garage refused to give back our car keys until my Wife signed a form stating she was happy with the work. When she refused to sign it since she was not happy with the repairs the garage effectively held the car ransom until she signed.
We contacted Swiftcover who stated that W Cocker and Sons might rectify the poor work. However, since we hadn't selected on our policy that we would like a courtesy car, it would be down to a good will gesture on the part of W cocker and Sons to provide us with a vehicle while they made good their poor work.
We were then told by Swiftcover that W Cocker and Sons would rectify the work but would only be able to provide a small car, in addition we would have to foot the bill for the car insurance on this courtesy car.
We argued with Swiftcover that either they or W Cocker and Sons should provide us with a 7 seater free of charge as it was their fault, not ours that the work done was substandard. We were told time and time again that since we had not selected on our policy that we wanted a courtesy car, we would not be provided with one free of charge. Hang on...so someone hits our car, not our fault, Swiftcover recommends a poor repair centre, not our fault, the repair centre does a substandard job, not our fault, yet Swiftcover want us to claim on our policy for a courtesy car which would cause us to lose our no claims bonus, or be provided with a tiny car on which we would have to pay the insurance.
We were not overly happy sending our car back to W Cocker and Sons given their incompetence and the apparent attempt to deceive us by swapping the damaged wheel with another. So when we were denied a courtesy car we washed our hands of the whole situation and have taken it elsewhere to be repaired....leaving us out of pocket, thanks Swiftcover & W Cocker! read more
