Last year I had to opportunity to visit the camp. I figured it would be a great opportuniy to leave the city on a hot summer day and get some fresh air. Upon arrival I saw bikes for the campers to ride and a horse. The most beautiful part of the camp is the endless lake. There are boats for the children to row and a clean lake. I didnt have a chance to eat in the dinning hall but there was a beautiful rustic fire place. As a native New York city kid I wish I was able to attened a camp like this in my youth. I feel it would have exposed me to another world we dont see in the hustle and bustle of the boroughs. However I've learned that this organization continues to have many social events throughtout that city that allows anyone to partake.

The staff is accommodating and friendly. Every year they keep improving on the system which speaks volumes about how they are reassessing their system each year to make the camp a better experience every year. I feel safe leaving my daughter in their hands. I truly appreciate the tier payment system since it makes the camp affordable everyone...at times when you earn less you pay less and when you earn more you pay it forward by paying more so a less fortunate family can also attend. The camp is diverse and the counselors are polite and kind to the children. Highly recommend.

My two daughters attended NYC public elementary, middle and high schools. Bee Tutored played a big…read morepart in the academic success of my girls, as neither my wife nor I were expert enough in mathematics and science to guide them through challenging patches. Over six or seven years, we've used an equal number of tutors. Owner Kate Pritchard was extremely responsive and did a good job matching my daughters' challenges with a tutor (usually college aged or recently graduated from college) who had absolute mastery of the subject. Only on one occasion did we ask for a rematch. Bee Tutored sent over a replacement tutor the following week -- and we continue to use him 16 months later for my daughter, a senior at Brooklyn Tech. We credit the work of Bee Tutored during middle school, along with SHSAT prep classes, with helping my youngest gain admission to one of the specialized high schools, Brooklyn Tech. Had the Bee Tutored tutoring center opened several years ago, we would have availed ourselves to their SAT and ACT college test prep, which our girls took at Kaplan. They found Kaplan sterile and uninspiring, not to mention disorganized. Test grades were often not posted on time and classes were canceled without advance notice. My oldest daughter saw no improvement in her score from PSAT to SAT, even after taking the Kaplan course twice. Bee Tutored is the antithesis of for-profit, corporate tutoring mills like Huntington, Sylvan, Kaplan and Princeton Review. Anytime I have wanted to speak with the owner, Kate, I reached her via email and phone. She takes pride in her business and the success of kids receiving tutoring from Bee Tutored. As a longtime customer of the business, I attended the open house for the new tutoring center and met the Scratch computer programming tutor and the SHSAT prep tutor. They were just like the young adults that have mentored my kids over the years -- bright, warm and eager to teach. I recommend Bee Tutored to any parent who doesn't have the time and/or skills to help his or her kid with homework and test prep. They've come through for me over many years and I have two smart, confident daughters to show for it.

A friend and I signed up for Jessie's Hand Embroidered Felt Holiday Ornaments class on a Saturday,…read moreand it was SO fun. We can't wait to be back. The 2 hours whizzed by, and Jessie was really friendly and great and giving and showing instructions. She was also very patient with students' questions. The ornaments ended up being so cute from everyone, we were all thoroughly impressed by everyone's work. A lot of us, including me, didn't finish the entire project during class, so we got to take home the supplies we'd need to finish at home. Jessie made sure we had the supplies and knowledge/skills so that we'd succeed at home with finishing up. The studio is nice and cozy, there were about 16 participants of mixed genders and ages. It was really fun, and we can't wait to try more classes!

I recently took a goat milk soap making class here and overall had an enjoyable experience. The…read moreinstructor was very knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely kind, which made the class welcoming and easy to follow. That said, there were a few organizational issues that took away from the experience. The class started late because the instructor chose to wait and see if more people would trickle in, which felt disrespectful to those of us who arrived on time. I also wish there had been clearer communication beforehand about supplies. We weren't told that we could bring our own molds, and the only molds provided were small condiment containers, which resulted in some pretty awkward and unattractive soap shapes. Better molds or advance notice would have made a big difference. It also would have been helpful if instructions or an overview of the process had been emailed ahead of time or posted on the class listing so participants knew what to expect. Additionally, a few of the soap mix-ins were unavailable. This wasn't a major issue, but it did add to the impression that the class was a bit underprepared. Overall, I still enjoyed the class and learned a lot, thanks largely to the instructor's expertise and friendliness. With better preparation and clearer communication for students, this could easily be a great experience rather than just a good one.
