Yes, the prices are a little high, but these are some great tacos. Only thing I wouldn't order again is the guacamole, which seemed like the pre-made goopy stuff. Biggest thing to be aware of are the patrons with small kids. Without fail, this results in an epic wait in line while they ponder the options for Little Johnny the Special Snowflake. Each and every taco will be a special order that begins with "once upon a time there was a young prince..." and it will take a lifetime. Not the staff's fault -- they're usually on it and are able to get things out pretty quickly. But indecision on the part of the customer isn't something they can do much about. My suggestion: if you see a line of kids, go next door to Spirit World and get a drink and come back. If you don't see strollers or toddlers you're good to go. read more

Probably the most racist place I have ever had the displeasure of visiting. My family came here while I was in town because it was near my hotel. When we came into the restraunt a black man was operating the register and other black folk were sitting at the tables. This seemed fine at first, my family and other folks behind us were the only white folks. When I tried to order food the man was condescending towards me and got the order completely wrong, but what upset us the most was that he told us there was no indoor seating while there were black folk sitting all over the restraunt, I thought we got rid of segregation a long time ago. We will never come here again and make sure to let everyone I know not to as well. Wish I could give a 0 star. read more

The Pork Carnitas are my favorite and the Pinheads are also a win! The tacos are street size, so they may seem small for the price but they're so delicious it's worth a visit to VooDoo every now and again. The staff is super friendly. It cost five dollars for one small taco and it wasn't that great I asked for all beans but when I got back to my hotel room I had rice mixed with the beans which I couldn't eat so I ended up having to throw it out. My overall experience was not that great I think I need to try it again and stay at the restaurant to eat so I know my order is correct. read more

Over priced and not all that good. I wanted so badly to like this place. The idea of it is great. Fun street tacos. But it's just ok. The guacamole was like baby food and bland. The margaritas were like sugar water. The mahi-mahi taco was very bland. The Baja shrimp one was a little better. My husband liked his smoked brisket and alligator tacos. Great gourmet taco restaurant with cool ambiance and an alcohol license! This location is new and is well decorated and clean. I absolutely love the pork carnitas taco and I paid it with the Doña sauce (you get to pick your sauce out of a handful of options). The reason I gave four stars instead of five is because I haven't really enjoyed the other tacos I've tried besides pork carnitas. I'm not sure if that's a reflection of the quality of the taco or if they're just not really my style so I'd still suggest trying what sounds good to you. The only other complaint is with the margaritas. I've tried them twice now because it seems like that's one of their specialties (I think they do a margarita Monday?) and just really haven't enjoyed them, very very sweet. Email of experience enclosed: To whom this may concern, I want to begin by stating that I don't normally contact companies with poor feedback. The situation that occurred on Friday Feb 24, 2017, at your Aksarben location, has confirmed my decision to never again visit any of your franchises. I would like to describe what had taken place on this Friday evening at 19:00 (normal dinner hour). My boyfriend and I had driven the 20 minutes to this location for our dinner plans, after looking up the hours of operation online (closes at 9:00 pm [21:00]). Once inside, we noticed several people dining in, as well as a couple in the process of ordering. As we stepped behind the ordering couple, the employee taking their order looks up at us, stated they would be closing and could not take our order. We stood there for a moment, unsure if there was some strange joke being made. We were then ignored. We left, I made a call to the store asking what time they were open until. The same employee again stated they would be closing early because of the lack of business. Still confused, I asked how a dining area with several people, and customers in line, ready to order justified it being slow enough to close. He then snapped at me that this was the manager's decisions and in a rude tone asked if I wanted to talk to the manager. At this point, I was so mortified by the experience, I said no and got off of the phone call. I have, for an large portion of my life, worked in the food and service industry, through high school and college. I have never had to deal with such an unprofessional business, and employee representing a company in my entire life. I've closed businesses early for a night due to a low customer traffic. Slow would be considered no customers for a period of time. Not 7:00 pm on a Friday with people still eating and walking in. I had the pleasure of meeting the man who started this company, and he unfortunately no longer has the ownership title of Voodoo Taco. I'm sure he will be heartbroken to hear about what it now represents and how it treats the people that keep it open. I wanted you to be aware that your unprofessional actions have now detoured customers, and I encourage people to spend their money elsewhere. This place is SOOO good! I had carnitas tacos and nachos off their food truck at Rockfest at Westfair where they had a limited menu. I had been wanting to try this place for a while. Placed a phone order for take out. Observed the Best of Omaha awards for best taco on the walls while I waited to pick up my order. Took my order home and found that ... yes, this was my order ... what sounds awesome on the menu is in reality poorly executed and overpriced. First time eating here today and definitely will not be the last. We decided to try it because it was close to Baxter Arena. We were greeted at the register by Mr Charlie, who was great to talk to and extremely helpful. I had one barbacoa taco, one alligator sausage taco and rice and beans on the side. The barbacoa was delicious with great flavor. The alligator was enjoyable but did not really stand out against the toppings in the taco. We also ordered chips and guacamole which was fresh and yummy. They also had a great beer selection, I enjoyed a Vanilla Bean Blonde from Infusion Brewing Co. Thanks to Voodoo Taco for honoring veterans on Veterans Day and feeding them for free. We will plan on going here to eat whenever we are in the area. read more

This is a good place to go if you're looking to grab a quick taco and watch a game. The tacos are pretty big, I only needed one for lunch. I went at around 2 pm on a Thursday and there was no line and very few other customers. I ordered the barbacoa bbq taco. The meat had great flavor but i could have done without the bbq--didn't seem to fit a taco flavor. Overall, the taco was fine, the service was fine, and the atmosphere was quiet but with nice TV's. Not my favorite taco place but I would go again if I was in the area and craving a taco. read more

I have been going to Voodoo Taco since it first opened. I even attended the soft opening. I always enjoyed it, but it eventually fell off my radar and when one of the founders who was a friend passed I didn't feel like it held on very well and I stopped going. I saw the new location open up downtown and decided to give it a try again. I've since also eaten at the Aksarben location again (so this is a review of both). Both times I had the breakfast burrito with bacon added in. I liked it so much when I visited the downtown location that I found myself craving it a couple weeks later. It's large burrito at a super reasonable price with the wrap slight toasted and a spice level to it that is just right for my non-adventurous taste. It's tasty and satisfying. Also, I found the service on both trips to be exemplary. Especially at the Aksarben location I found an engaging and friendly staff that truly seemed to care about a positive customer experience. It's nice to see an eatery make a comeback and Voodoo Taco is making me a regular again. read more

My 'go to' item to test the mettle of any new taco place is the 'carnitas' taco. It's supposed to arrive piping hot - crispy little bits of fried porky goodness with charred tips to bring your taste buds to life. My counterman/order taker Charles was very friendly, explaining the menu to the Aksarben area businessmen in front of me while I pondered my own porcine future. I selected two of the carnitas and settled into a booth with my number and a glass of cold water. The paper tray arrived in about 4 minutes containing...wait for it...two of the barbacoa tacos. I double checked my receipt...yup...barbacoa instead of carnitas on the ticket. I guess that review of the carnitas will wait until next time. The barbacoa tacos were slightly small on the ingredients - 6" fresh flour tortillas with about 3 ounces of dark mixed beef, a small crumble of cotija cheese and a generous squeeze of hickory flavor barbecue sauce along with two small containers of reddish tomatillo sauce. The beef was soft and melty and the sauce was...well...barbecue-y. I added the tomatillo sauce to the second taco in an attempt to balance the sweet sauce with a tang of peppers and the result was a bit better. Prices were on par with the quality of ingredients. Service was top notch, with Charles coming by later to clean up the paper trays and napkins from all of the nearby tables. All in all, I'll give VooDoo's Aksarben place a thumbs up. Great atmosphere, plenty of room instead of cramming in a couple of extra tables, sorta open kitchen where you can spy on the cooks, knowledgeable and helpful staff, quick service. read more

We came in again tonight, 3/31. The gentleman behind the bar that was making drinks AND taking orders was s class act (we didn't catch his name, but he was bald with a beard). Some people at the bar were being pretty rude to him while he was busy, but he handled it with grace. There was also a lady (we didn't catch her name either) that I believe was kitchen staff sitting at the bar eating some food. Even though she was clearly on break (or off?) she got up to help when it got a little crazy. We got our food to go (plus some good drinks while we waited). Voodoo taco is like the new Rainforest Café for self-styled hipsters and college students who don't know any better. They are hoping their fancy lights and design distract you from the overpriced, underwhelming and completely uninspired food as well as the slow, rude service. Some highlights: -Service is slow. I know cooking takes time but that's not what I am talking about. The front of house is poorly trained. Voodoo, teach them to use your POS system before throwing them in at lunch on a Saturday. -Vegan means no eggs, stupid. Some people have severe egg allergies. Going with a vegan option is usually safe. You know, unless management doesn't understand what vegan means. Putting eggs in a dish marked vegan goes beyond just unethical: IT'S DANGEROUS. -Speaking of management. The manager is a jerk who chose to ignore these concerns when I reached out. Cool dude. Voodoo taco will do great because they have a never ending supply of college students coming from SmallTown America who know nothing better, which is great for Voodoo because they never have to try. I went out with friends and just got one taco because that's ridiculous on the price, the one taco I ordered was a little cold, and had more toppings than the meat. The sauce wasn't spicey either. It was really disappointing because they said the barbacoa was the most popular one on the menu. I will go else where for tacos that aren't expensive, and that are better tasting. read more

The food was great, however....... We walked into a cool atmosphere and excited to try the tacos. The first thing I notice is a man in a black hoodie glaring and shaking his head in disbelief at me and my brother. I immediately think that he knew us or my kid had done something wrong. I take a second to reassess the situation and not jump to conclusions. He looks away long enough to cuss loud enough for us to hear 30ft away and he stops looks back again and says "you have to be kidding me".....? I seriously thought this guy wanted to fight us. So I ignore it and look at the menu and I keep see him looking at us from the kitchen. Then it hit me THIS GUY IS THE MANAGER FOR THE DAY!! There were only 2 other people in front of us and it was lunch time. I asked the lady behind the counter why he was so mad and she said she didn't know why and she was really sorry. Everyone there was working hard and polite and you could tell he was being evil and making working there a living hell. I would go back there but if I see him I would walk right back out. That guy does not deserve to hold a position of authority and should not be in customer service. I know we are not the first person to of seen him be crazy and this cool joint is going to lose lots of good business if they keep him there. 4 or 5 stars for food. 1 star for experience. read more
