This is Pinewood Cemetery AKA Peninsula Cemetery one of the oldest cemetery in Daytona. The age of some of the tombs here date back as far as to 1800s that is amazing. . . . The cemetery does not look so big from the outside. It is surrounded by a wall with a metal black fence on top. The place looked very secured. It is located at a corner of a street and so it is easy to find. . . . I came looking for someone buried here. Honestly, I had never done anything like this before and I did not know how. The place was described to me as almost empty and different from what I saw. To my disappointment the cemetery was closed for repairs. This was not listed on any sites or any sign had been posted outside, I looked. I waited for 2 hours. I made phone calls and no answer. I did eventually got a call back and told "closed for repairs" I was not happy. . . . I found their setup to be unprofessional and inconsiderate. They have a woman at a desk working on a computer and answering phones right inside the front door. My assumption is that the intention is for her to act as a greeter, however the phone and the woman are loud enough to be heard in the viewing rooms, even through closed doors, where families are trying to grieve. If they want her doing office work, they should put her in an office and hire a separate person to greet. Every time I was there, she was on the phone and not able to help anyone walking through the door. As for the service at the gravesite, we were given half an hour and told they would charge extra if we weren't gone by then. Half an hour! Some guests were only just getting there as we were being told to leave.

In fact at no point did she take advantage of the situation by trying to sell us additional services. On the contrary, she even helped us find an extraordinary Minister to conduct the service. As it is in most cases, the loss of a loved one is one of the hardest experience you can have in life . In my view we were very fortunate to find such a caring place where we could wish our loved one farewell with dignity.
