OH MY GOD. I love Coldstone ice cream (especially coffee) but this place is seriously lacking in…read moreservice and cleanliness. I will go back, of course, because I am a desperate foreigner who occasionally craves coffee-flavored ice cream that doesn't remind me of Turkish coffee, but please, if you are the manager of this place, step up your game. They have no less than 10 people on staff at 9.30 at night on a Friday and the two guys at the counter are both - get this - eating ice cream in front of the cash register. That is something you do OUT of plain sight, dude. Upstairs the remaining 9 employees are sitting around a table smoking and chatting. Meanwhile the girl's bathroom is literally covered in shit with toilet paper all over the place (except for in the dispenser, of course), so there is nothing to wipe with at all and my hands are all wet as I leave. Since my hands were wet I could not get a firm grip on the door handle and therefore got basically stuck in the bathroom. The door gets stuck. So I'm like maniacally wiping my hands on my jeans and trying to yank the door open. Miserable experience. Also, a word of warning - don't bother with milkshakes at this place. For 10TL you get 3/4 of a small plastic cup filled. Hardly worth it, I'm afraid.

I had the recent fortune of spending ten days in Istanbul and this small shop was one of the (non-historic site) highlights of the trip. Five of us were visiting from the U.S. and were being shown around by our Turkish friend. The shop has a variety of flavors and the gelato tastes very fresh. I am always impressed by the cream that is used in Europe - it makes everything, dairy based, incredible. I had a chocolate based flavor that was rich with both the cream I mentioned before as well as strong hints of cocoa. The waffle cone was fresh and had a sweetness to it. Admittedly, the waffle cone is one of the better ones in the world, but not unique to Cremeria - the gelato however is - and it is the combination that makes this a stop worth making whether a native or international visitor.
