These 30% ruin it, unfortunately. Marketing is not in line with reality when it comes down to personal care and attention. Foodservice has a couple caring ladies but I assume they are trying to fight against a particular ignorant influence. Menu looks better on paper than what is placed in front of the resident. Some days we were there, the aides were embarrassed about what was placed in front of the residents. Laziness and a lack of concern was in charge of the food those days. Severe neglect can be a regular occurrence, and for that reason we cut ties very quickly and found a much better place for our loved one. Management downplays failures. They have no protocol in place for when staff calls in sick. The off going staff just leave and not even management will come in to cover shortage... leaving hours when no one is on the floor to care for your loved one. Unfortunately, there is a ghetto and extremely lazy attitude going on among those 30% and food service folks. Really bad non caring ignorance. The activity director is amazing and very caring. Angela, a supervisor, is a wonderful caring person but has some bad apples she has to try and make things work with. Unfortunately the business manager who hires has no concern for training new hires. All she cares about is her 9-5 in my observation.

My father was a resident of this facility for over 5 years..3 1/2 years in independent living and 1 1/2 years in assisted living. The independent living "side" is fine, a pleasant community with very nice and reasonably priced senior living apartments. The assisted living "side" was a living nightmare for pretty much the entire time. Full disclosure..My Dad is a dementia patient and a difficult one, but as I have since learned not all that unusual. There were pockets of excellence in the staff, but Waltonwood was never able to provide suitable and consistent care for my Dad in the time that he was there. We needed to hire outside caregivers to assure that he got showered and dressed. In his final months there, as his condition deteriorated he would spend days in his own excrement. The overall management philosophy is rooted in a lack of knowledge and skills to deal with this type of patient. Instead of either stepping up to the issues or asking my Dad to leave, they continually blamed my Dad or me for the lack of care. My parting view of this facility as my brother and I packed up and emptied my Dad's apartment for the better part of the day was at least 4 "caregivers" who sat in a lounge area and did not even look up from their phones for hours...guess they are supposed to sit and wait for residents to ask for help???

In addition, our family lost total of $7,500.00! $5,000.00 because they did not keep track of most basic needs/essentials of older people (dimentia). My parents "lost" dentures and hearing aids with their lack of "care". There was a lot of neglect and caregivers stealing personal items and you PAY TOP DOLLAR for this?! In addition, on move out there was normal wear on the room and they charged to have the ENTIRE ROOM redone at a cost of $2,500.00. The building may be nice, but don't let this deception fool you! I can speak specifically about Memory Care - and the bottom line is - RUN! You DO NOT want your loved one in this Memory Care facility. They charge a boatload and do not compensate their help. As a result, they have lost great staff and have a temp company working for them. There is a lot of yelling at and amongst residents which has created a toxic environment for the seniors. I witnessed residents being ignored when they asked for help. Food is inappropriate for Memory Care residents - fries, chips, salty, and often uncut. More than once I had complained to management about the food. I even spoke directly to Ted Turner, one of the corporate leaders, when Anthology took ownership. I gave him pages of recommended daily allowances for seniors and he said he would get back with me - and never did. The room reeked of urine - and our loved one was often found sitting in soaked briefs. Laundry in Memory Care was scheduled once per week. Pre-Covid, I spent many of my visits doing the mounds of wet laundry due to my loved one's incontinence while caregivers did a lot of sitting. Staff actually stated to me, "if the families could see what is going on back here (in Memory Care) they would be very upset." More than one person stated that they were thankful we were moving our loved one (for her sake.) Leaving Anthology was the best thing we could do as she is thriving in her new facility. Thank God! ADDENDUM AFTER CORPORATE RESPONSE-I spoke to Eric in person at least one time last year. No change. A lot of listening and no action. Best wishes to all of you!

What really stands out are the activities--there's always something going on, and it's clear they put real thought into keeping residents engaged, active, and social. Every single person we interacted with was kind, patient, and truly caring. You can tell they don't just "do a job"--they really care about the residents and treat them like family. My elderly mother was very happy during her time there, and as a family, we felt so supported and at ease knowing she was in such good hands. The food was a wonderful balanced meal and so much healthier than the microwave dinner he was eating at home. The clinical managers were so helpful when he had a health concern. The activity team was incredible with getting him to activities that he liked and encouraged him to try new things. He had a new outlook on life with something to look forward to daily instead of being in his home where he did nothing and very few people to talk to. I also want to say that the sales and management team was great in helping us acclimate and understand the whole process of his transition. Overall, I was very happy with Grace and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a loving, caring environment for a lonely loved one who says they don't want to leave their home. Trust me, it is a great decision for their spirits, happiness, and overall wellbeing.

The entire staff has taken the time to get to know him and us as well. We all feel at home there, including my Mom, who will be moving in shortly. Placing your elderly, vulnerable parents in an assisted living facility is always scary. It is essential to find one that you can trust. Ask the staff a lot of questions and tour the facility numerous times. Once your parent is there, visit often, be involved, get to know everyone, continue to ask questions about their care and state of mind, share details (hobbies, favorite TV shows, food preferences, for example) about your parents. These factors will all help the staff and care managers understand and care for them better. We are very grateful that our parents are safe and well cared for at Sunrise Senior Living - Troy.

The hot water was off, the shower was hanging, unattached to the wall mount. I mad 3 calls to maintenance to have my "running" toilet fixed. They never fixed it. A week later, I went to Home Depot bought a toilet repair kit and had it fixed in 5 minutes. The heat in the unit stopped working. I called the so called "manager" Mimi who said she'd put in a work order. Mind you, it's winter in Michigan and "no heat" is considered an emergency. When I left in the morning the temperature inside was 67 degrees. When I returned around 4:30 pm, the temperature was 64 degrees. I called the office, no answer. I left a voicemail and explained it was an "emergency." I called back, she hung up on me. I went to the office in-person, where she stammered excuses. I told her I'm totally fed up with this place.
