Since our goal is to remain in our single story townhome as long as possible, I decided to contact a senior agency that provides in-home non-medical care when I was no longer able to do our own housekeeping, knowing we would need additional help as time went on. I contacted Caring Presence. We had an intake and assessment meeting with Laura on 6/19/24. She was very caring and professional. I explained that I would like to have a thorough surface clean every other week and I would maintain between those cleanings and asked her if that would fit their definition of "light housekeeping". She indicated that they could accommodate our request. We discussed scheduling, and I responded that our townhome, which is a little over 1,200 square feet, took approximately 3 hours to clean, but not knowing the skill or speed of the caregiver to be selected, I indicated that I would be willing to pay for a fourth hour if it was needed. At the end of the meeting, she indicated my first scheduled cleaning day was to be Friday, June 28th. Paperwork that she left me included rules and expectations, and I will quote only what is relevant to this review. "You will be required to sign the caregiver's time sheet, which verifies each day and time services were provided." Additionally, I was required to give their agency 24 hour notice if services were not needed, which was very reasonable. On Friday, June 28th when we were prepared for the initial caregiver's visit, I received a call 45 minutes prior to her expected arrival to inform me that a caregiver had not yet been selected for us. Apparently, the 24 hour notice requirement only works one way. The next week, we received a call to inform us that a caregiver had been selected and she would arrive on Friday, July 5th at 9:00 am. Again, 40 minutes prior to expected arrival, I received a call from Caring Presence stating that the caregiver had called in at 1:00 am to report that she had food poisoning. Her visit was rescheduled for 2 weeks later, on July 19. She arrived promptly on the 19th, and we spent a half hour going over what needed to be done. I spoke to her about the 3 hour schedule and the fact I was willing to cover an additional hour if she needed it to do a thorough surface cleaning. She told me she was through just prior to a full 3 hours, and I confirmed with her that I was happy to pay for the full 3 hours. I asked for her time sheet, and she said she didn't have one. She told me I needed to sign on her phone to indicate that she had been there and done her work. There was nothing on the phone but a blank screen with signature line. I signed it. Although paperwork indicates she was not to receive a gratuity, I gave her $20 in cash to mostly offset her expectation that it had a 4th hour scheduled in case it was needed. On the following Monday, I received an email notice that $112 had been debited from my checking account for 4 hours of work at $28 per hour. I called Caring Presence to bring the mistake to their attention and ask for a $28 credit to my account. I also wanted to know where this timesheet was that I was supposed to sign to confirm her hours. I was told I could only speak to a person that was currently on vacation and he would have her call me first thing Friday morning when she returned. I asked to speak to Laura who did our assessment and set up our first schedule. He refused to allow me to do so. I received no call from their office on Friday morning. I hired a cleaning service and provided Caring Presence with a written termination of our Service Agreement via email on Friday afternoon. These Facts are why I could never recommend anyone to use the services of this organization.

After waiting several hours and the on call RN not showing up I called his cell phone and reached him. He told me he could not find my home and he was heading back to his home which was less then 10 miles from my home. I told him I need help and he said he was not coming. I shared I had him on the phone and would direct him in. He said he did not want that and he was not going to come. He hung up. I called him back he said look I don't care what going on I tried and I am not coming, I am going home. I reported this to the company and they did an investigation and validated my complaint. 2) The RN Geri was told by the patient me that I was having spasms in my colon and she replied and so, it part of your disease. I reported I was not able to keep any food in and was getting weak. She said it will happen. This went on for 2 weeks. I then did as she discouraged me not to do I contacted my primary doctor. I was told get into the office now. They looked at me and said OMG what is going on. I shared it with them and they told me the RN Geri had not let them know. They told me stop all food go on Ensure every 6 hours for the 1st day and we will call which they did. With the Ensure I was getting nourishment which I had not had for 2 weeks die to the colon in spasm and nothing staying in. The next day I was put on ensure every 6 ours. They called then next day and on the 3rd day I was put in Ensure 3 cans daily. I recovered. The doctor also gave medication for spasm. When I was over the crisis situation the doctor told me when they had 1st seen me they did not think I would make it till the end of the week if things stayed as they were when I 1st saw the doctor. This is a non caring ill responsible company that if I had not contacted my doctor they would have allowed me to die. Do not even take your goldfish to them.

The place was basically ok, but they had people in there who should have been in a nursing home. I…read moremean dementia patients. Absolutely NO privacy unless you could get a private room. Our food came from a nursing facility across the street and was very often cold. The head caregiver there was not very friendly. There were rules there, but not really enforced. People were smoking, smoking marijuana and drinking, all of which were suppose to be forbidden. They scolded me when I finally left as if they had done everything they could for me and I didn't appreciate them. Things really need to change there. The food quality was not good. The cleaning staff was very nice as were the people that did laundry.

But the meds I needed to keep me from constantly having to pee (desmopressin) had not been given to me for over a week. Nor had my pain meds (hydrocortisone). Everyone knocked before entering my room except for the guy mentioned previously. He just walked on in. Most of the residents who spoke to me had nothing but complaints about facility. I was told when I Checked in On Monday I would be moved to first floor by Friday. 30 days later I moved back home off of 2nd floor with no help from anyone at the facility. The admissions person told me on the day I moved in an attorney would be contacted to get financial help. When I left, no attorney had been spoken to. None of the nurse call buttons in either room solicited a response. A few days after I left, I. Was called and scolded for leaving previous review. Im not angry. Im generally a positive, kind and optimistic person. This is the only critical review I've left. But this facility earned it. Good luck Boulder Gardens.
