Mary does her best to make you feel like your loved one is being cared for, at first to get you signed up. She will make empty promises and reel you in. Don't ever try to disagree with her, or you will be threatened with lawsuits, protective service reports, and may even threaten to throw your family member out on the streets. Be careful what you say, as you may be recorded/taped during your visit without your knowledge or consent. River's Edge may be licensed, however; we could find no record for a license at the "Scotland Manor" location. We would strongly recommend seeking an alternative placement for your family as Scotland Manor or River's Edge is not a suitable place for end of life care.

My 89 year old aunt has been living at Sunrise of Grosse Pointe Woods for nearly two years. On my last visit she called over several caregivers to her wheelchair and introduced them to me as you would a dear friend. My aunt was very unhappy to leave her own home and go into assisted living, but now she is contented thanks to the patience and attention of the wonderful staff. Resident Care Director Judy Gafa sets the tone at Sunrise GPW with wisdom and kindness and hands on care. She even personally accompanied my aunt for a doctor visit. I would attribute the excellence of these special people to a combination of genuine caring nature and superior training. Smiles all around. I only hope that should I need care one day that it will be from caregivers as excellent as the staff at Sunrise Grosse Pointe Woods.

This is not the place you want your elderly family member to be for rehab. My 94 year old mother…read morewas there after a hip fracture, surgery, and a 10 day hospital stay. Prior to her fall she was able to walk with a walker. After 10 days in a hospital bed, she was very weak and barely able to stand. The Bellbrook rehab staff was not very patient with her (despite saying it could take up to a year at her age to recover from her injuries) and after a week decided that she was fearful and unable to stand or walk. She is now totally wheelchair dependent. After being at Bellbrook for 3 weeks, she was told she had to be discharged - despite insurance authorizing her to stay for another week! Discharge planning was abysmal. The care is safe, but not family centered. They do not include the family at all, insisting that family members leave the room, "while they provide care". I suppose if you would like to drop your loved one off and not be involved with their care at all, this would be ok, but it was not ok with me.
