This is an awful company!!! My son was required to work with OLE for five different acting gigs…read morebetween the 4th-9th grades. He experienced a range of their teachers, sometimes for a few months of tutoring and it was a scam every time. One teacher actually told the students and parents that she simply, "doesn't do math!", then she sat down and read her newspaper. Multiple teachers were nasty yellers and punishing, requiring students to work silently even if they had questions! I have documentation of emails with Jodi Green laying out curriculum prior to contracts to ensure teachers would arrive with subject knowledge, which of course they didn't, and subsequent emails from the teacher saying she didn't know how to do the school work. The stories go on and on. There are other tutoring company options out there that are the real thing. I don't understand how OnLocation has intimidated and fooled Production companies into believing they are doing right by our kids. They create more stress because no learning takes place and then parents end up paying to send their kids to a "real" tutor to catch up before reintegrating to their schools. I've spoken with dozens of stage parents who have similar experiences. This company is about making money, they do not care about education.

They charge exorbitant prices to producers and hire mostly incompetent "teachers" who are usually unqualified to teach subjects beyond second grade-and say they are K-12 certified. It seems like the people who work for OLE just want to say they've worked on set or on Broadway. We did not have a good experience with the multitude of teachers we worked with. Now, during Covid-19, they are marketing themselves to unsuspecting parents who are realizing how difficult it is to school at home. Parents in the industry have struggled to get production companies to hire different tutoring firms. The owner has lobbied at the state level for working conditions for children that benefits his company not children. There are so many things wrong with they way children are treated in the industry, but the lack of attention to find education starts with this company.

Writing from the perspective of a student who graduated here, do not apply your kids or self to…read morejoin this school. Ever. From extremely harsh punishments that were entirely unjustified to rules that forbid any sense of creativity and enjoyment, I can literally confirm to you I would've had less depression growing up if my mother was in jail for not getting me to school successfully. Every single argument I was in with another student led to me being punished entirely, with the actual offender getting away scot-free. This was even extended to conversations that weren't even arguments. I suggest an idea for something, and the teachers decided to punish me for it. If I ever had a problem with another student, I would get yelled at for having the audacity to protect myself from getting mentally hurt. If I had a problem with a teacher, my mother would be called and she would punish me in ways that, again, weren't reasonable at all, and only served to increase my depression. I wasn't ever allowed to use the phone myself in order to properly file complaints I had regarding other people in the classes I was in to any managers of the school. In fact, self-defense and knowing when and how to get help is NEVER taught in this school. Literally never. The best (/sarcasm) part about this school is how when you're being punished, the only thing these teachers do is yell at and berate you to scare you into not doing it again, and it will literally never cross their mind that they might be acting a little too... extremely harshly towards a child. They don't ever calm themselves down in order to try and explain to you why what you did was wrong (Spoiler alert: What you did might not even be the wrong thing to do, actually! If anything, you will be punished for doing the most RIGHT thing!). Every single teacher I've had had this seriously annoying superiority complex against their students and it drove me up the wall. I've had a teacher call me a bitch, in a room where profanity wasn't permitted, and forced me to apologize to HER for calling her out on it. I've had another teacher accuse me of theft, with literally no proof to her accusation, despite being fully determined to put me in jail for it. I've had another few teachers attempt to gaslight me into believing I never went to see a movie I literally went to see. I've also had teachers blame me solely for horrible actions they decided to cause themselves. This school is a nightmare. Nothing of value is taught in this school, I don't know how to maintain motivation or energy to do things I enjoy doing because my mother never signed me up for Occupational or Physical Therapies, but at least I speak amazing English for the constant Speech classes I was given. I may not know how to care for others in non-financial ways, or even myself, for that matter, but at least I know how to Earth Science and Algebra 2. I would also like to add in the fact going to and from school gave me a genuine fear of school buses, but that's not relevant to the school itself. Stay away from Hawthorne Country Day if you wish to keep a healthy, stable relationship with your children.

I want all the teachers to know that I appreciate everything they are doing for these kids. It takes a lot of patience a kind spirit and a loving heart to do the work they all do. Thank you,
