I sometimes wonder how I managed to get to the finish line without dying trying to balance work, school, and life. I'm so glad that I made it through! My program was unique, as lectures were entirely online, through text chats, video conferences, and lots of communication through e-mail. It was and continues to be a program that is not offered at any Canadian university. I was fortunate to get awarded a bursary during my time at Mercer University. It helped me out immensely. The university has decent tuition payment plans, which this Canadian appreciated, especially when the exchange rate was horrible! Throughout my time as a graduate student, I worked closely with my professors. We often talked over the phone and through e-mails when I needed advice and help. They truly wanted every student to succeed. There were various conferences where I would meet my peers and professors, so it didn't seem like I was studying remotely. I made the trip on campus for my graduation. I am glad that I did. The campus is gorgeous. Two of my professors gave my friend and me a tour, including their offices and lecture halls at the School of Engineering, where we ultimately got our degrees. The only negative I can think of was the mishap getting my name on the graduation list. The woman that I dealt with was unpleasant. Here's hoping that she has fixed her attitude and is a better person these days! To date, I am still close friends with my professors and peers. Last summer, two of my professors-turned-friends and a peer were in town for a conference. We met up for dinner and it was wonderful catching up with them. I wouldn't have forged strong friendships had it not been for Mercer University and the program that I graduated from. (171)

You may expect to be treated as an individual and will learn more knowledge supporting that, right? You won't get it. The "school" is overpriced and lacks decent customer service (yes, this is a business), the food and the overpriced meal plans are VERY bad, parking is a joke, the campus police is a joke, and your time is a joke if you're seeking a decent education. Thankfully the courses were so well organized that all I had to do was wake up for a few hours each morning to get my course work done. The assignments were efficient and purposeful so that all I needed to do was listen to lecture and complete my homework in order to succeed. Thanks to Wesleyan College, I passed my board exam on the first try and only used our last semester seminar as guidance.

This past spring semester, my mother and I went and spoke with Erika White, the director of Residence Life, at Wesleyan College regarding some issues that had been happening on campus. During this meeting, I noticed that a report on another student that she was flipping through had pictures of some of my belongings that had been missing from my room. This student had gained access to my room from my Suite Mate's room and taken some items of mine. One of them being my father's pocketknife. When I mentioned that that specific knife had vanished from my room a few weeks prior, Erika White said that there were pictures taken of this individual's room, and that I would be more than welcome to look through the photos to see if anything else in the room was mine once the formal investigation closed. I left the office and never heard anything about the situation again. I then went to Residence Life and spoke to Erika White on 8/1/2022 to turn in my key and ask about retrieving, in the very least, my father's knife. Erika White then informed me that everything in that individual's room has been bagged up and thrown away, including my father's knife. Her exact words were "I'm sorry. It was an out-of-sight, out-of-mind kind of situation." Because there were things missing from my room at the time that have not turned up and I was never permitted to look at the photos, I am not sure what items of mine were disposed of, not including my father's knife. This is unacceptable. Considering that I and my mother sat down and had this conversation with Erika White, this situation should never had happened.

You have concerns about anything? TOO BAD! They'll give you the run around! I had to go back and forth from the dean's office to housing office multiple times because of roommate problems and the people above me. It has caused me so much stress, I couldn't even be comfortable in my own room that I PAID FOR! It doesn't matter how many meetings you have or who you talk to, nothing is going to be fixed and it will all be on YOU. And they wonder why people fight and damn near burnout because nothing is being RESOLVED! Why am I doing your job?! They literally don't care about you and they love lying to students about things they can easily fix but CHOOSE not to. You get your own room BUT AT WHAT COST? It's costing my sanity for real! DO NOT GO HERE UNLESS YOU WANT ALL THIS STRESS! I wish I knew all this stuff before I became a student.

The campus grounds were immaculate. The cafeteria had many selections for students to choose, the only thing I would love for them to include on their buffet is more non dairy, vegetarian and vegan options. Other than that, it was very good. It was good to see another HBCU experience.
