This church is very welcoming to ALL. Many LGBTQ+ people attend and afterwards they had a nice social gathering with some nice food bites and dessert. Excellent congregation.

They are part of 5,600 churches with over 1.3 million members although every church governs itself independently. This is a Protestant church and they are proud to align themselves with the Congregationalists who took a stand against slavery in 1785 with the ordination of the first African-American Protestant pastor, who in 1853 saw the first woman ordained as a Christian pastor, who in 1972 saw the appointment of the first LGBT pastor in a mainstream Christian denomination, and who celebrated marriage equality in 2005. "Our faith is over 2,000 years old, our thinking is not" and "All are welcome." United Church of Christ is an ONA church meaning open and affirming. "(ONA) means that we have publicly declared that "lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual, questioning" (LGBTQ) people (or those of all "sexual orientations") are welcome in the full life and ministry (i.e. membership, leadership, employment, etc.). It bespeaks a spirit of hospitality and a willingness to live out that welcome in meaningful ways. Transgender people or gender identity and gender expression are increasingly included in ONA declarations, statements or policies." One of the church's main outreach programs is Ruth's Ministry which has feeding and clothing those in need for over 18 years. Guests attend an optional church service on Thursday mornings and then are served a meal and given referrals for temporary housing, clothing, and toiletries. Ruth's Ministry provides over 8,000 meals a year. United Church of Christ Fort Lauderdale also partners with many community organizations such as Out of the Closet, Poverello, Smarty Pants' annual Pet Project fundraiser, the KiKi Project and HIV Testing Center of The Pride Center, Gay Men's Chorus of South Florida, World AIDS Museum, along with many others. They are also passionate about social justice. I found out about United Church of Christ Fort Lauderdale when I stopped in for a yard sale raising money for their ministries. This church was my original hometown church. I devoted years of volunteer service. Helped all the…read morePriests and deacons. I had my communion, confirmation, and my daughter's Baptism there. My niece and nephew made their communion there as well. My father had his funeral service there in 2019. I even helped Mrs. Sobkowski for years before she passed. I was very close with Father of O'dwire and Deacon Joe. Now my family and I goto a different Catholic Church and my daughter is being confirmed at it. My niece was her sponsor and needed a signature of the current priest of St. Malachy. I thought this would have been an easy process but the lady at the front desk was extremely rude off the bat. She started asking about how much money we donate to this particular church. I asked her if she would like a $60-$100 donation as we donate to our other church, Queen Elizabeth Ann Seton and it was only a signature needed to ensure my niece went there and was confirmed there. After being verbally given the run around for 15 minutes I asked to speak to the father/priest. She said they were in a budget meeting. I asked if I could just speak to him for a second, I'm sure we could get this resolved quickly. 2 minutes later the priest comes out and literally tells at my niece and I that we are "in a meeting." I asked him if he needed to scream and he simply said the phrase again louder and proceeded to close the door in our face as I yelled back, I can yell too, it won't solve anything. As we were walking away he told them to call the police. I said all of this for a signature. When did this church turn into a mafia. Then he and 3 women 3 men come out with phones drawn on record taking pictures of me and my niece. This angered me and I stopped to allow him to take all the pictures he wanted. I did call him a bad name as we left the parking lot. I was shocked that this church has become so money hungry.

I love this church it's a true Lauderdale by the sea landmark. The original church sits back a ways from the newly erected church. To me the original small building that was once my church is what I love best about assumption. You used to be able to access it from my neighborhood bel air until they built a wall and apartments closing off our community entrance. I hate that. It seems I'm here too many times for funeral masses. Whether or not you're a parishioner of this church it's always a nice church to attend and Easter service or midnight mass on Christmas Eve. I will always consider it my church because I basically grew up in this church. Fond memories of beginning life and ending life all happened here for me and everything in between.
