The villa we rented listed described Villa Smeralda as 'cheap, cheerful Sardinian with huge portions'. They only got two out of four right, but I would still recommend this place wholeheartedly. Pujols is a gorgeous little bastide with a tiny main square which was deserted on a recent Tuesday night. The Villa Smeralda is a typically gorgeous building of honey-colored stone, enclosing a graceful al fresco dining terrace. Our kids had the 15 euro beggar's menu, while we went for the 25 eruo choice and it was really too much foods. Starters included a delicious salad of baby spinach, feta and roasted hazelnuts with a balsamic dressing served in miniature mason jars which my kids loved. The starters also included a large plate of prosciutto, breaded Sardines with a piquant romesco sauce. Mains included hearty pastas (my son had a rustic version of carbonara while I had creamy but unremarkable tortellini. The waiter was a little too pleased with himself and the hostess a trifle snooty but not unbearably so. With a bottle of local rose the bill was 135 euros. and my kids loved it. If the mains had been just a bit better, it would have been superb, but perhaps I just ordered the wrong thing, (should have had the lamb, judging by the reviews).
