You get no stars from me. People please do your research, property management, Wanda, who has been…read morethere for a long time. I don't know how because she is the most unprofessional woman I have ever met. I don't know what management has the authority to raise the rent on a two or three day notice, then charges you a late fee for rent because you raised it, when the rent was due! also charges pet fee almost $400 but when you go on the website it's only 150 the pool is never open things are always breaking and I think they hire uncertified people to fix plumbing and electric management always claims they are there, when they are not. Wanda picks and choses who she likes and is always threatening tenants that they will be evicted if she doesn't like you. I've known a lot of people who have left because of Wanda's behavior and I also know people who still live there and are having problems with her. I have tried numerous times to get in contact with somebody who is above her and she is not willing to give me any information. This lady needs to be out of this management position. She is stealing from the tenants. I don't know since when you can pay your rent with a debit card. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to leave a comment unless I put one star but they don't even get that.

Casa Del Lago Condo - One of the most impressive condo communities in Highlands County!

For 30 years "Casa" has been one of the finest and still is one of the finest condo communities in…read moreHighlands County! Yes, I live there. My parents moved here 30 years ago as it was just being built. I moved here permanently 2 1/2 years ago to take care of my elderly mother. I was the relative that was willing to step up which is so common here in Central Florida. Casa is in the far northern part of Avon Park. It is known for its seclusion and the peace and quiet associated with that. It is NOT a 55+ community however most of the residents are over 55. The first thing you notice when you enter is the attention to curb appeal. This is a beautifully maintained property whose landscape contractor has been the same for many, many years. The property is covered with dozens of palms and live oaks. There are just under 100 units in 37 buildings. All units are two bedrooms and two baths. Each has an enclosed patio and a linai/porch that is either screened or glassed in. Most of the units include a 1 1/2 car garage with the 1/2, of course, for your golf cart. A few units have a slightly smaller garage. Rivergreens golf course is just across the street. This is a lakefront property with its own dock for your boating pleasure. The beautiful landscaping is supported by an automated sprinkler system fed by multiple wells on the property. This includes the beds in the enclosed patios. Residents enjoy a large clubhouse, year-round heated pool, shuffleboard and tennis courts. Several social activities are offered each month. The property is managed 100% by volunteer residents and has been since it's inception. This makes the HOA fee a very good value! The very low cost of living in Highlands County contributes to the terrific value of ownership here. I'm wonderfully comfortable here and look forward to many, many years of five star living!

What a surprise! I noticed that Yelp HQ added an entry for my County that was yet untouched so I'm…read moregoing to make it my business to rectify that! I've lived in Highlands County for eight years and over decades, visited dozens of times before that as my parents retired here. I feel well qualified to review it. I've noticed that some Yelpers, when reviewing a city or county kind of sort of cheat by just parroting the Wikipedia page. That's a cop out and I'm not going to do that! I'm going to grab selected topics and focus on what it's like to live here. Sooooo here we go- Culture- Highlands is an agricultural county with thousands upon thousands of acres of citrus groves and just three tiny cities. As a result, you can take the word "urban" out of your vocabulary! This is a typically quiet, peaceful place with a high percentage of retirees looking for great weather, low cost of living, and minimal hurricane activity. If you look at a map, see my pictures, we are about as Central Florida as you can get. Florida's justly famous beaches, both East & West, are about 90 minutes away! Food- If you are a foodie, you're in for a challenge! There are plenty of restaurants including of course, most of the chains. There are also dozens of privately-owned small establishments with excellent food but not usually what you would classify as foodie worthy. Mexican food deserves special mention. Because of our citrus groves, at certain times of the year, hundreds and hundreds of "Pickers" show up to harvest the fruit. Most of these fine folks are Hispanic and a high percentage are Mexican. They are supported by many small, super casual Mexican restaurants with some of the most authentic, inexpensive Mexican food you have ever had in your life! Yum! Just use Yelp to find them. Medical- Your needs will be well-met here with the medical community skewed slightly towards retirees. Everything is anchored by the Advent Health System including an excellent hospital. For me, all my medical professionals are less than thirty minutes from my home with some much closer. For super critical situations off to Tampa you go. Hurricanes- Everyone in FL knows that when a hurricane hits land it begins to quickly dissipate. So you want to have as much land between you and the ocean as possible. Highlands County is perfect! My condo is in a four-unit building that is 34 years old. In 34 years, my building has NEVER had any hurricane damage! Have hurricanes hit us? Of course, but usually, they are falling apart by the time they reach us. This is one reason Disney built in Central Florida! Insurance- Let's face it, insurance in FL is a mess but premiums in Highlands County are much cheaper than most of the state because of the distance from the ocean and the aforementioned hurricane situation. Big Cities- Drive West about 75 miles to Tampa or North about the same distance to Orlando. Note that for many years traffic around Orlando has been a nightmare because of the justly infamous I4 interstate! Currently, I'd rather have a root canal with no pain meds that drive on I4! Cruises- There are several cruise ports in FL and just about all are within driving distance! That means you can take an excellent vacation without booking a plane flight which drastically reduces the cost and hassle! Choosing where to live and especially where to retire is a big decision. You can lead a very pleasant life here in Highlands County in the great state of Florida!
