I never even knew this place existed until I came here last week to participate in a market research group.
It's in a horrible part of St Kilda, on St Kilda Road just after that massive and most-pedestrian unfriendly junction where Dandenong Road, St Kilda Road and Fitzroy Street meet.
My big tip if you ever need to come here by tram - and pay attention because this might save your life - is to get off at the tram stop AFTER the junction (stop 31), not the one at the junction (stop 30). This way, there's an assigned pedestrian crossing to get you over from the tram stop to Viewpoint Centre, instead of risking life and limb to make it out of that mass nonsensical, criss-crossing tarmac labyrinth. (I wish they would bomb this whole section of St Kilda Road - safely of course - and start again. It really spoils Melbourne).
Anyway, Viewpoint Centre is a conference centre and a market research centre. The market research rooms are of varying sizes, the one I was in held 8 people around a boardroom table snugly. Each room is fitted with one of those one-way mirrors you mostly see in interrogation rooms in TV cop dramas, and also a video camera. Very high tech.
The good people of Viewpoint welcomed us with cups of tea and biscuits whilst we waited in the reception area. In the interrogation room, we were further provided with sweet and savoury snack, orange juice and cold water. Very civilised.
The session went well and on ran on time, so all in all, it was a good experience once I got used to the whole 1984 vibe. read more
