However, there is a charm about this place that I really liked. Sure, it is one of those pubs that has its residents, yet it was quiet enough that I could sit out the back in a really comfy chair and read a book. Well, okay, I was greeted by the dog, which I guess is why I really loved the pub, because a pub with an animal is simply awesome. And the dog is heaps friendly as well (which I suspect is because it is used to a lot of strangers wandering through).

We handed them back and mentioned that we weren't happy to the wait staff. He said 'all good, I'll tell the chef'. We heard nothing further. No concept of customer service.

We really liked the IPA and session IPA, both very drinkable and a good amount of hops. Food was really delicious, the sous vide kangaroo with beetroot was the best - and very Aussie - the chicken katsu came with curry sauce rather than traditional katsu sauce (fine, but should have been labelled as such) and the portion was on the small side, certainly not pub parma sized. It certainly appears to be the local Ararat well kept secret! The food was slightly above average price and the quality did not disappoint! The twice cooked pork belly was huge and delicious, and complimented beautifully by the veggies, mash and apple cider gravy. The eye fillet was cooked to perfection and I haven't tasted a red wine jus of such good quality for a sadly large period of time! Decided to share a sticky date pudding - my fav/default dessert, posted a pic of it! And it tasted as good as it looked!! If you look past the standard 'golf club' open, simple layout and decor, the food and service will be well worth a visit to this out of town eatery!

However, they did have quite a lovely outdoor area, almost in the midst of the natural beauty of the Grampians. Yeah, it was a nice place for a beer, but there were better.
