Came here for my birthday celebration with a group of friends. They gave us a private room and it was perfect. The service was excellent, our waitress was so nice! The cocktails were delicious and amazing. All the food was INCREDIBLE everything was so tasty. The krudo, fried chicken and lamb dishes were our favorites but everything was so flavorful and fresh. A great experience and meal. One thing - one person was a vegetarian, she definitely had a more difficult time feeling full. But for non-vegetarians, it was 10/10!
I am always amused when restaurants have very simple names that sound much fancier in their native language. Vianda just means food or meals in Spanish but that is the biggest understatement because what they serve is so much more than just food. They are amazing masterpieces!! I saw the chef here was a James Beard semi finalist in multiple categories, which makes me wonder what the food at the winners must be like because we all loved the food here. It is hard to pick favorites but standouts were the grouper in coconut arepa, Kamph's crudo, and especially the pork belly with fried rice! It is not that the other dishes were bad, these dishes were just unbelievably delicious! The fried chicken dish was so good but ask for sauce on side because the couple we came here with struggled with the heat. The ambiance is a little basic but who cares when the food is this good!
I wish there was a tasting menu to taste more dishes. Between two people, we managed two appetizers or small dishes plus one main (which was the size of two small dishes). Everything was great. The sweet plantain agnolotti was probably my favorite followed by the pork belly. The snapper carpaccio is a bit like a ceviche and much bigger than I expected. Solid service and table and they texted table was ready about ten minutes before my reservation.
My friends and I enjoyed the whole experience. We got the recommendation from Resy. I ordered pork belly with rice. Oh my, it melts in your mouth. No need to chew. lol. The dessert -- tres leches another reason love this place. The place was classy, clean and gave me a dinner date vibe. Dress up a little bit to have the full experience. We were on on shouts and sneakers. lol. The staff, were pleasant , accommodating, and very professional. The manager even went around and asked for how we were and our experience. Price range mid to high. A must try.
Fantastic farm-to-table cuisine! Must-visit in San Juan! After being announced as a James Beard Semi-Finalist, my friends and I sprinted to get a res at Vianda. We were lucky to snag three seats at their bar. The interior is very elevated and trendy! The bartenders were super friendly and service was excellent! We tried a variety of their vegetarian dishes, but standouts were the Corn Sorrulos, Beets, and Cauliflower Croquettes! Can't wait to come back and try more bites!
Visited Vianda for dinner while on vacation. I came across this restaurant by googling top restaurants nearby Condado beach. Driving up to the restaurant, you will notice it's not in the best area. A lot of the buildings across the street looked vacant and had graffiti on them. There were some sketchy characters across the street and one homeless individual pressed his face against the glass of the restaurant nearby where folks were dining. I wouldn't advise walking here at night - definitely uber and they have a parking lot next door if you're driving. It seems to be attached to an older office building - the bathrooms were down a shared hallway. The inside of the restaurant is very nice though. The décor is more minimalistic. The tables had a good amount of space in between them so you don't feel like you are sitting on top of someone while you are dining. We were seated for our reservation right away and they brought us complimentary champagne since they knew it was our anniversary. Since my husband was very hungover that day, we didn't get to order as many dishes as we would have if he hadn't been. Everything we did try though was delicious. We had to ask a lot of questions about the dishes to really understand what they were since we didn't know what a lot of the ingredients were or how the preparation would be. Our waitress was very helpful in making recommendations. We tried the Corn sorullos, the pumpkin, and the fried chicken and it was all very good. For the chicken, we did the habanero sauce on the side per our waitress's suggestion given how spicy it is. I'm glad we did! I really enjoyed our dinner and I am bummed we didn't get to try more. I would definitely recommend Vianda for a nicer dinner meal.
FOOD: Portions are quite small, and sometimes the creativity comes at the expense of taste, e.g., the green cucumber salad. The cake was delicious but served too frozen. SERVICE: Our server was fantastic, perceptive, attentive, and very nice. She even comped the green salad and was knowledgeable about plaint-based alternatives on the menu. The alcapurria appetizer was an elevated (and tiny) version of a classic PR fritter. It tasted familiar but left you wanting more--it could be a lot bigger for the price. AMBIANCE: Perfect for a date or family night with its intimately lit setting, open concept, and minimalist yet still homelike decor.
Due to some water issues in Old San Juan my fiancée and I pivoted to a last-minute reservation at Vianda and we were so glad that things worked out this way. Vianda is located on a relatively calm and quiet street in San Juan and features a delicious, tapas-focused menu. We were recommended to order at least four items for the table, but given the size of some of the plates you can easily make that 5-6 for two. We started off with drinks and I tried one of their more unique ones, the "En Las Nubes" which is their take on an espresso martini featuring clarified coconut espresso. I was a bit apprehensive that the coconut flavor would be overwhelming but was pleasantly surprised that it tasted near identical to a normal one, except completely clear! Our favorite dish was the tostada which features a beautiful blend of aioli and mussels atop their homemade sourdough. The eggplant was just 'OK' in comparison (not to say it was bad) and was a bit interesting with its more Asian-inspired coconut curry sauce. Overall, service was friendly and attentive and the food was excellent - both in taste and presentation. If you're in San Juan I'd recommend giving this place a try!
Vianda in Puerto Rican Spanish is a reference to local starchy root vegetables, such as yuca, batata, yautia and others. Ran by the ex Sous Chef of The Modern in NYC, Vianda is a beautiful place where Chef Guzman and his wife take guests on an intriguing journey of Puerto Rican ingredients and complex re-imaginations of classics. Things like pig's head in a seaweed "crepe" are incredible. The vegetable focused options are plentiful throughout the menu, with cabbage in egg sauce and walnut sofrito being one of the most remarkable things that a human could possibly create from such a simple vegetable. Crispy barquillitas with carrot a great starter or break between courses. Heirloom tomatoes with local green bean seem simple in concept, yet have an incredible level of taste complexity. Swordfish is wonderfully prepared and very delicate for a fish that isn't known for being particularly delicate. The team here is truly amazing creating a feeling of visiting their home as opposed to a restaurant. Attentive and kind throughout, the service element is top notch. The wine list is also not to be missed, with bottles priced at 1.5 to 2 times retail, presenting a great value in today's world of crazy surcharges. The restaurant is casual in nature, yet the food, presentation and service are not, thus eliminating any layers of pretentiousness and unapologetically focusing on what matters: creativity, flavors and local ingredients.
The hype is real. My friend and I both agreed this is easily in the top 5 restaurants we've EVER dined at--truly unforgettable! We had zero complaints. The decor is minimal and tasteful, our waitress was outstanding (looked like Drew Barrymore), the drinks were strong and delicious, and the food was inventive and downright addictive. We went with everything our waitress recommended, and she did not miss. Here's what we ordered for two people: Crudo de Mero, Repollo al Carbón, Pesca del Día (we even ordered extra bread to soak up every drop of the sauce), and the Bomba Alaska for dessert. This is a spot I'll return to every time I'm in San Juan. We even asked if we could meet the chef--though our waitress just laughed, so I'm not sure if she thought we were joking. Chef's kiss. Can't wait to come back someday!
I wanted to get out for at least one pretty nice meal during our PR trip and I saw the chef for Vianda had multiple Beard nominations and decided to make reservations. I went in really hungover so I didn't eat as much as normal but it was still a really neat experience and the prices weren't too bad either (high but not bad for a Beard nominated chef). My fiance had the lemonade and had them add gin and she said it was really good. To eat, we had the croquetas, sopa de setas, the repollo al carbon, and the bomba alaska for desert. The croquetas were good but the sopa de setas and the repollo (apparently, its cabbage lmao, with my bad translation, I was thinking chicken) were both really good with the flavor in the sopa being my favorite of the savory portion. The bomba alaska was really good: popcorn ice cream with some carmelized banana that had some of the best banana flavor I've ever had in a dessert. It took us a while to figure out what to order and our server was very on top of it but still very patient with us. Overall, a great experience and exactly as I was hoping for.
Had such a lovely dinner at Vianda. The ceviche was fresh with and bright. The mushroom soup was one of the best things I had. Very umami and great depth of flavor. The salmon was tender and flaky and was served with a creamy coconut Thai-flavored curry and sweet potato puree. Steak was perfectly cooked. The chocolate dessert was so good that we ordered a second one. Vianda is one of the best restaurants we tried during our time in San Juan. The decor is beautiful and classy, service is wonderful and the food is absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. Highly recommend checking it out.

Came here with my friends since we wanted elevated dining, and this place was absolutely perfect. While the area they are located is eh but at least there is parking right next to the restaurant. The food was so delicious if it weren't a public place I think we would have all licked our plates clean haha! The service was spot on, and decor clean and spacious. Would love to return here again! read more

The food and experience we had here was 10/10! We absolutely loved all the small plates we ordered: highly recommend the fried balls pictured (forgot what they were called but they were cheesy and delicious), and the butternut squash small plate was AMAZING. it had toasted farro with buttery/crispy greens and perfectly browned squash, it was fantastic. A dining party of 11 for dinner. Not easy in any city, but Vianda delivered. As one of my dining guest said: That is some life changing bread and meal. He only wish that he can package the food or they ship internationally. The highlights of the meals were so many (we ordered everything) , but these dish stood out to be: Swordfish, beef tenderloin, branzino and duck. -So freakishly delicious. We also had to keep asking about having more house sweet bread until they ran out. They also serve a proper cocktail. Highly recommended. read more

This was such a special treat while we were visiting Puerto Rico. We made a reservation some days in advance to Vianda after recommendation from a local acquaintance. While not completely a Puerto Rican-solely-specific experience, honestly, this place is legit if you are looking for some finer dining. Everything melted in our mouths. Notably, the fresh pieces of bread and butter, the pork belly, the shrimp, the lamb. I don't even know where to begin! Incredibly flavorful food, fantastic colors. We even decided to order dessert, which we don't always do, and had the chocolate mousse-like cake. The portions are not super huge where you won't be able to finish everything and it isn't super tiny where you feel like you aren't getting a full experience of the dish. We had shared three large dishes and one small dish between the two of us, and thought it was sufficient. The service staff and the co-owner were also so welcoming! We thought there were some of the best we had ever worked with during our trip. Verdict: YES. ABSOLUTE YES. Go and indulge! read more

Words are not enough to describe how good this place is. From the beautiful decoration, to the music and of course the fantastic food. Just Wow. I had a cúcame más cocktail and it was honestly so refreshing and chill. I just had to go with the delicious ñoqui de pana. They were bomb. The service was lovely and they gave us a warm welcome. Suffice to say we enjoyed our meal here. Might as well get the negatives out of the way first. The lighting and ambiance are a bit off (felt like we were in a re-purposed hotel lobby). Also the small plates were much more "gourmet" vs. the large plates. Not a big nit but a nit nonetheless. Otherwise, the meal was excellent. Let's provide the run-down, shall we: What we loved- the carrot tart and the root vegetable small plates were beyond compare. What we liked- The deconstructed mofongo and the bacalao were both tasty. And the shortbread dessert, while not special, was quite good. And the rest- the green tomato small plate was a "swing and a miss". There menu changes often, so hopefully some of the none stand-outs will be phased out. In any case I should also mention the excellent service here. It was excellent (check that off the list). All-in-all, I'd feel pretty good about recommending this restaurant. read more

This food was some of the best I've had in PR. To start, we got complimentary bread with butter, which was probably one of the most delicious things I've eaten in my life. We ordered the crispy pork belly con arroz kimchee and the tagliatelle. Both had great flavor, you can't go wrong with either of them. Note, unless you care to drink bottled water, ask for filtered water. We didn't realize we ordered bottled water and ended up getting charged $10 for 2 bottles which we didn't even finish. read more

Amazing spot!!! The flavors were great in each dish - I've never had batatas bravas with a sweet potato before, and really enjoyed the contrast of flavors between the sweet with the salty from the egg aioli and the perfectly cooked octopus! The tortellini was also nice.. But the star of this meal was the pumpkin dessert! I almost didn't get it since I'm extremely wary after so many overdone pumpkin spice dishes, and I'm SO glad I did! This dessert is not-to-be missed, and undersold in the menu description. It's a pumpkin enterment with a very thin white chocolate shell, perfectly balanced pumpkin mousse, with a small bit of pumpkin purée in the center and a mint cake base. The trick is to get all of it with the crumble on the outside for the perfect combination of flavors and textures. The service was also phenomenal - great recommendations and fun to talk to at the bar. Will definitely return next time I'm in PR - can't wait to see the next menu! read more

An chic/modern dinning space with delicious food! We ordered a set menu and ordered the famous root salad, and the tom kha with kimchi fried rice separate. The set menu featured a goat cheese quiche, beef tartare, fish, and a dessert made with coconut crepe goodness. The highlight of the meal was the root salad, the marinated beets(sour and tangy) mixed with a light horseradish dressing and topped with toasted quinoa, something about this flavor/texture combination just stimulates all of your tastebuds. I loved it. The Tom kha was good, but not my favorite. The flavor was a little too heavy for me. It reminded me of the curry dishes I had in Thailand, but more savory. The kimchi fried rice was just ok, I think pairing it with the tom kha made the already flavorful dish even more flavorful. Maybe a rice with lime/herb flavor can pair better with the fish dish. Overall it was a very good dinning experience. I recommend it to everyone! read more

When you first walk into Vianda, you already feel as if you are somewhere special. The decor is just aces. The space is beautiful. The wine list at Vianda is expertly curated. Food is just fantastically full of flavors. The ingredients are local and fresh - you have the impression as if you had picked the vegetables that morning yourself. Chef at Vianda does a fantastic job elevating local ingredients and re-inventing them in a way that feels familiar, yet daring. read more

Just one word: COME! You won't regret. I ordered the main item on the menu( the chef tasting one, $80) and extra $45 for 4 wines to pair with, very delicious! Pork, rabbit, beef and desert rice pudding. read more

Went to Puerto Rico for a flash visit and my friend brought me to Vianda for brunch and coffee. We had the fig french toasts with goat cheese and the toasts with poached eggs and tomato sauce. Everything was delicious and worth the money! I also tried the starfruit juice and the pumpkin spice iced coffee from Alteza Coffee. Overall, the food was awesome, the customer service was perfect and since we are on a pandemic, they have reservations, just a few tables separated from each other and the place is clean. Vianda is a beautiful little spot with amazing service and food. The waitstaff was extremely attentive, and each of the four courses brought out were extremely thoughtful, composed and SO delicious. The cocktail menu was fun and very evolved, if it weren't for our wine pairings, I would have definitely had one (or two) On the same note, our wine pairings, curated by Gina, were some of the best wines you can find in Puerto Rico. They fit beautifully with every dish, bringing flavors out in so many subtle ways so you could experience the dish differently. It's apparent their desire to "push the label" on the wine scene in PR is on the forefront, because their selection does not disappoint. Amelia, one of the owners, was so kind and hospitable. You can tell she cares so much about the guests, the restaurant, and the city around her. Francis, head chef and owner, lets his food speak for itself. He also has taken the initiative to have guest chefs to assist in producing a weekly menu, which speaks volumes for his love of culinary and his city. If you're visiting PR or a resident, do not miss out on this spot! And to Vianda and staff, Thank you for a wonderful experience. read more

A Michelin quality restaurant all-around! FOOD: Dinner rolls: I never review complimentary bread... but this was the BEST bread we've tried. We even asked for more (which wasn't free lol). 10 stars. Soft shell crab: 4/5 Candied papaya with wild bitters: didn't expect this to be a highlight of our meal. 5/5 Crispy Pork belly & kimchee rice: was good, but got unbearably salty towards the end. 4/5 Coconut flan: was just ok. 2.5/5 SERVICE: our server was very sweet, helpful, and knowledgeable. 5/5 VENUE: upscale and nicely decorated Verdict: would recommend Vianda! 4.6/5 read more

Was hoping to say our experience was outstanding, but must say it was just very good. Front operations were superb - appreciate call-back and accommodations. Friendly and welcoming environment. Great server too - perfect timing, good humor and efficient. Now, the food - some plates were outstanding and some just good. Considering I was on the Island, we hoped for more than a broccoli/cheddar soup. Again, it was good. Loved, loved, loved the Almojábanas and the Avocado Carpaccio. Salmon also really good. Not impressed with the Local Roots - was expecting roots (ñame, yuca, yautía...) and got a lovely beet salad with toasted quinoa. Delicious, but not what was expected. We love the restaurant concept, vibe and music. Will try again on our next visit to the Island and go for the regular menu, not the Tasting Menu. All certainly worth a try... read more
