Via Nova has a great lounge-y vibe with soft lighting. The waitress was warm, attentive and gave great beer recommendations and food suggestions. Tried the pork chops with mushrooms and sauce and it was do delicious! Also tried standard pasta and a chicken dish with lemon sauce. The Food Their menu is quite long and includes breakfast, soups, salads, sandwiches, pasta and meat dishes. The quality is decent, but some of the food I've eaten there was so-so and lacked taste. Their breakfast is good, which makes the restaurant a popular place to brunch after clubbing all night and day. Their daily menus are worth glancing at, their pasta dishes are fresh and hearty. Cocktails are sloppy, I once had to retrieve a dead fruit fly from my drink, after pointing it out to the waitress, she simply strained my drink and re-shook it with some ice. The give-away? Same glass and watery drink. 2. The Staff Nothing special, sometimes too busy to help all the customers. 3. The atmosphere Laid-back, comfy lounges. 4. The damage Most dishes are between 5-13 euros. Broccoli al Forno, I love you. I have been to Via Nova now a few times since arriving in Berlin. The staff are incredibly warm and friendly and speak English, if you need it. And the food is delicious. I am unhealthily obsessed with their broccoli al forno, a dish comprised of broccoli simmered in a cream sauce with prosciutto and them baked with a bit of cheese on top. It is sinful how delicious this tastes and is perfect as a starter to share. The pizzas are lovely (and have a variety of fun and interesting flavors, including duck with arugula and their Via Nova special with salmon and shrimp!. The calzone is a massive delicious bit of baked heaven that is also airy and fun, filled with cheese and ham. There is also a nice selection of wine at the ready. Food and service here were both excellent. They have pasta, seafood and a wide menu, including salads which are harder to find in Germany! The wait staff spoke English and were really great with handling a big group. We sat on the patio which was lovely. It's a great stop for dinner and not too pricey. read more

what this place lacks in decor; it also lacks in food quality, and management ethic! gross i would have given this place a three based on its proximity to my house, and cheap wine, however the rotten meat and rude owner are enough to scratch this off my f'hain list. my gf ordered the carpaccio, and after eating the second (of maybe 8) pieces, noted a strange taste, asked me to try it, and we decided it wasnt completely fresh, (didnt smell any better) so we opted to send it back, respectfully. the waitress refused to remove it from our bill, saying it would come out of her pocket (which was noted false, after we inquired) and when we requested the manager he said he counted the pieces, and my gf had eaten too many (2?) for it to have been bad. we assured him wed ordered many things on the menu and this was the only one we naturally couldnt eat because it wasnt fresh, and we just wanted our money back for that plate, to which his antagonistic response was to tutor us, on the dining process. (you shouldnt have eaten it if it was bad, he said) thanks but no thanks. after 20 minutes of quarreling with a hopelessly cheap and disrespectful manager, we left, and we wont be back! The dark-haired girl who served us on the terrace on Friday night was super sweet, patient and attentive although it was clear she was quite busy and had a load of tables. Drinks were so-so, nothing to write home about. Barman brought out a glass of Pinot Grigio for my friend and announced it as such although it was not what she had ordered. When I said, Chardonnay? he corrected himself, oh yes, I meant, Chardonnay. Friend took a sip and sure enough it was Pinotwe both work gastro in Berlin so a) know this trick but b) couldn't really be that upset with him as we'd both probably done it in the past and it was fairly busy. Still, though, a more appropriate response would have been so say that it was their mistake and ask if she would like to keep the glass of wine or wait another couple of minutes for the right one. In this case she probably would have just accepted the Pinot, but without feeling somehow verarscht. Inside, while being obviously meticulously decorated, it has quite a faceless sterile corporate quality about it, but the smells coming from the kitchen were amazing. We only had drinks but everyone's food looked and smelled incredible. Had a look at their menu, will go again to sample the comestibles. All in all a decent experience on a Friday night in Fhain, especially if you want an escape from the usual tourist and hipster haunts in the area. read more

had dinner a couple of times here and was surprised by the large selection of items on the menu at first i thought that this restaurant was just another big restaurant like so many others in the area but i must say that the service was fast/ friendly and the food was pretty darn tasty! the filet steak was very nice for 16EUR and the pasta is great too!! read more

Good food but terrible serivce, worst dining experience ever. We came back for the food as me and my friend had a good lunch a day before. We started the order with water, I ordered a sparkling water (large) and my friend ordered tap water, the waiter refused to serve tap water and said he should order from the drinks menu in a very unpatient tone. After two main courses were served, my friend tried to order still water on the drinks menu with another waiter, but they seem to missed the order and we decided to get water else where after the dinner. When I asked our waiter for the bill, there were four items on the bill: two mains and one mineralwater (2 euros) with another line below costs 1.7 euros with the title "...". So i told our waiter we ordered distilled water but it didn't came. 'it's already here' she said. I tried to explain that we made the order with another waiter but she kept pointing at my sparkling water, 'it's already here, where is the distilled water show me', she said unpatiently, 'maybe it was your English problem but in Germany we call it mineralwater.' she added. Then i realised the '...' 1.7 euro was probably for the 'large' size of the sparkling water, then she stared down at me said ' you can tell me if you are not happy with it'. I was so upset that I put the amount of cash on the table stood up and left without a word (i was on a rush to an event nearby). Steps away from the restaurant, my friend was so upset that we decided to go back to the restaurant and have a few words with the restaurant staff at the bar. I told them about the situation and my appreciation of their food but the terrible service by their colleague, the bartender asked the waiter to come. The waiter then excused that I made the order with ANOTHER waiter which was not her fault, and she told the staff that I yelled at her face outside while she tried to explain (which is a lie). Me and my friend just wanted to give them a suggestion without any fuss, so we just left the restaurant without further arguement on that. We didn't expect flawless service but we saw no respect from the waiter throughout the dinner, then she played victim in front of her staff. There's nothing wrong with the misunderstandings of ordering distilled water, it was all about her attitude and language. The other restaurant staff were nice and smily, still recommending the restaurant if you are not served by that particular staff. read more

Of all the times I've eaten carpaccio this is the ONLY time I've ever sent one back.When they brought me the bill and it hadn't been removed I asked to speak to the owner. He said that I had eaten too much of the carpaccio and that I should have returned it immediately if I was unhappy with it. It's true that the meat wasn't green, so it was only after a few slices that I realized that the freshness and smell were questionable.Because I consider carpaccio to be one of those things that should be undeniably delicious and not merely passable, if a customer returns it it's because it is subpar. I found the owner's attitude to be disappointingly arrogant and suggestive that I was attempting to save a few dollars. The location of this restaurant is conducive to tourists and one-time passerby, and the smugness of the owner told me that he has no need to build customer loyalty he gets by just fine anyway. read more
