Proper Apple Whiskey with matching tshirt. Guinness on tap!
    Molly M.

Excellent Rueben sandwich server here! Full of REAL corned beef, sauerkraut & decent 1000 island dressing! Relatively less expensive drink prices here (just go a few blocks to downtown WBL). Today I tried Apple Proper Irish Whiskey for $6 and got the tshirt as well! Guinness on tap! There's a nice view of White Bear Lake outside the window but it's still frozen-will come back in the summer for a patio lunch!

Coolest VFW I've been to in Minnesota ! They have meat raffles , pull tabs, pitchers of beer, and hamms glasses when you purchase beer. Activities for getting a quick beer. I've been coming here for a few years when I'm in town.

    Denver omelet with untoasted toast

It was worth a try for breakfast. My husband's scrambled eggs were under cooked. The hash browns were crispy. I liked that, my husband not so much. The bacon was very tasty. My Denver omelet was fine, the peppers were nicely cooked. The pancakes were a little greasy. The setting was very nice, great view. I wouldn't go for breakfast again but I'd come back for a snack and a drink on the patio.

We have been in here a number of times but it had been a while so we recently swung in for dinner. This is a pretty standard VFW bar with a couple things going for it. First the view of the lake is awesome. They have an outdoor patio right on the lake. You can see the lake from the whole place. They definitely have some of the most prime real-estate in the White Bear area. The other thing going for them is the service. Very friendly, attentive but not overbearing. The food was standard bar & restaurant food. Their tap beer selection is a bit generic for me but hey, it's the VFW. Overall it was a good experience and we've made a point to not wait so long before our next trip.

Lunch on the lake with Lily and Anna.

Gallagher-Hansen Post 295 VFW - Waiting in line for fish fry.

This is for Lenten fish fry: ATMOSPHERE - This is one of the…read morebiggest VFWs I've been to. There's a large bar area, then in an adjoining room is a dinning space with another bar. It's very patriotic as you might imagine. There were lots of kids around, and everyone knew each other, which was lovely except there was a "you don't belong" attitude by some. In particular, the server in the bar in the dinning area ignored my two girlfriends to the point of taking an order from a gentleman standing BEHIND them. Thankfully the gentleman called her on it, and made her take their order. And I'm glad to say that was the only person who was openly rude. In fact, the people at the fish fry were all super friendly. FISH - The set up here is really great. You wait in line to pay, then the line becomes a line for the buffet. It's great to be able to fill up your own plate. The buffet table had baked beans, macaroni & cheese, dinner rolls, boiled potatoes with parsley, cole slaw, and of course, fish. A new serving of freshly fried fish came out every few minutes to replenish the buffet table. The fish had a breading type of batter (rather than a light fluffy batter.) It was light and flakey, hot and crispy, it was wonderful. COST - $10, this was a steal! EXTRAS - When we were there former Gov. Pawlenty and his family showed up. Plus or negative, that's your call.

Everyone raves about their Lenten Friday fish fries (we used to volunteer with or scout troop to…read morehelp bus tables), but fish has never been something I enjoy. We usually go with my parents after church on Saturdays. Most of the tables in the bar area are high top, and we have a 9-month old, so that can be difficult if all the lower tables are taken. But they do have high chairs available that work fine at the lower tables. Their food is always good, affordable, and out to your table quick. If it's crazy-busy with people ordering food, it might take a while, since I've never seen more than one cook in their small kitchen (they have another one that gets used for fish fries), but we've never had a problem, since most people are just ordering drinks. They only part that's a bit of a bummer for us, is that if you order a pop (the hubbs and I don't usually order alcoholic beverages), it comes in a small solo cup, and you have to pay for a refill (I'm sure that's part of being a bar). We each typically order a water and a pop right away, then we don't go thirsty or have to pay for another small pop.

Service is adequate, have patience on busy days like BINGO on Wednesday, Saturday, & Sunday. They keep the place clean and the volume varies wildly depending on time of day and events. Anyway, the building, both inside and out looks great...neat, clean and more spacious than I can imagine them using unless their event gets REALLY busy. Our server, the bartender was polite and attentive. Coke products are in place with no Mr. Pibb or Dr. Pepper. Downside: the menu is very limited and a good bit more expensive than other posts. My flatbread pizza was just OK but definitely overcooked. My buddy's Walleye Bites were fine but there was nothing special about the tartar sauce nor the thick breading. The credit card "convenience charge" doesn't help...I used a debit card and still get confused when it appears on the bill. Who is the card convenient to...definitely not the guest. This place, while still new, is at the bottom of the Legion Post restaurants. There's lots of work to be done...starting with the menu.

After receiving the automated phone message, I went on-line to sign up for a donation pick up. I received a confirmation e-mail that they would be out on the given date. There wasn't a time given in the email which I think they need to give a range of time so a person is not waiting around forever. I received a message yesterday stating that they don't contact people who live in secured buildings. Why not? I was instructed to leave our stuff outside with a note. Well in our neighborhood which isn't a bad one, but has a few people that like to help themselves to things, I wasn't going to leave anything outside. I called them back during their noted business hours and never heard anything back, so our stuff went to the Goodwill. I think their policy on not contacting peopl is a little strange. I signed up for it, they have our name, we're expecting you to pick things up. It's not like they're bothering us. Oh well, their loss. Always looking to donate our unwanted stuff to good causes. I didn't think it would be this much of a hassle.

A call to the DAV just got us a message that cut off after about 10 seconds. I have no idea what's going on, but I'm off to Goodwill tomorrow. Not bothering with DAV again - and I'm a veteran.
