VEG really helped me out when my guinea pig was dying. I rushed her there to euthanize her, and they quickly got us into a private room and went over everything. She ended up passing right before they could actually euthanize her, but they were so thoughtful and caring throughout the whole process. I went in Wednesday 11:30 night up until 2am and the "nurse" fucken suck. She claims to be helping when she would sit at her desk and have the others work and yet a patient was in critical condition supposedly her couldn't help my dog. Like I understand you have to wait but the fact your still taking others in and constantly telling your workers we are about to start the procedure my dog needs is stupid. Yet she tells the workers that they weren't going to let the owner know how the dog was like what no you don't say that. "Bad communication" is what they said but yet they weren't honest from the beginning to say we will take this many hours or be like hey we got a patient etc . Mind you I'm talking to the receptionist, the "nurse" approaches saying I'm the nurse like now you care to talk because I kept asking for updates and all I was told was lies. But quick to send that estimate right. All the others workers there were doing their job but her nope, just sitting on the desk claiming to be a nurse when your patients are in critical condition. As far as I know, you should be up and going checking but nope. But to close this story, I was told I wouldn't be seen at all because the patient wasn't good until the patient was stable, which I understand but why wait until I'm complaining when you had me waiting 2 hours before it got worse. After visiting another emergency vet (who seemed to lose our appointment - not sure what happened) we showed up at a little after midnight with our sick cat. They triaged him right away and put us in an exam room so he could wander around instead of being cooped back up in his carrier. This place is AMAZING - open so you can see what's going on and full of the most caring, compassionate people I've ever met, from the front desk staff to the docs. The techs were wonderful and so were the docs. They explained everything they were doing. My cat's lab results were a bit ambiguous - everything looked fine except for his blood count which evidenced an infection. I was offered the option of taking him home with antibiotics or leaving him for 12 hours for further observation. Since he had been dehydrated I opted to leave him to continue the IV fluids he was on. They found the infection (an abscess) and drained it. I picked him up and they explained the aftercare routine and the meds they were sending home. From the moment we walked in until the moment Boo the kitty left, we were all treated with kindness and compassion. They truly care about your furry family and it shows. I hope we never HAVE to go back, but in an emergency, this is where we will go. read more

I took my dog in because he started to get hives, and would shiver, and wouldn't get up he just wasn't himself, and I was fearful he was going to go into shock. So I took him into VEG, due to Covid my husband and I couldn't go in with him. I trusted them with my dog. We had to pay the bill before they treated him which we did. It was over $500.00! When we got him back. He was bleeding from his forehead. Looks like he was man handle. He looked worst when we brought him in. Doctor did mention he wasn't the most cooperated of patient, but I never would have thought they would hurt him. They should of explain what happen to him. It was really unfortunate we didn't notice until we got home. Both me and my husband are in shock, as it is he was already suffering now he has a new injury. When we got home my dog gave us extra hard time putting his ear drops in. Before we went too VEG, he allows us to wipe his ears. Word can't describe on how fearful he became. God only know what they did to him be hide close doors. I feel so bad for my dog he now is traumatize and he definite he didn't deserve to get hurt when seeking medical treatment. it is clear that VEG has no compassion and integrity. I took my dog on Monday night. They took amazing care of my dog. It is an emergency hospital, so I had to wait a couple of hours+ to talk to hte doctor. But in the meantime, my dog was seen by the technicians and I felt good about the place. Dr. Ellen offered to keep my dog overnight and I did that. They took extra care of him. I got a text before 6AM from the night shift vet updating me about my dog's night and to make arrangements. They texted me notes. They emailed me the doctors recommendations and test results. Everything very smooth. Having a pet emergency is extremely stressful and in the middle of how bad it was, I am glad I went to VEG. I recommend them. read more

I don't normally go here for vet care but about a year and 1/2 ago, my cat had an issue. I went to my regular vet who had a sub that saw her and said she thought her issue might be from an ear infection. She was vomiting. How the F is that related to an ear infection. I then took her to an emergency vet and waited almost 3 hours before she was even seen. They basically put her in a cage overnight and did nothing until morning. She had an ultrasound and it was found that she had a big obstruction at the outlet of her stomach. They told me they couldn't do surgery until the next day. Sorry folks this is an EMERGENCY. So I picked her up and called VEG. They had me bring her right in, got the records from the previous emergency vet and were ready to do surgery on her an hour later. Unfortunately by that time we were too late and the kitty love of my life died on the table. However, they really stepped up to the plate when I needed them. I only wish I had taken her there from the beginning. I still go back to my original vet (although I will NEVER see the idiot who diagnosed her vomiting as an ear infection) but I still would highly recommend VEG. I didn't like the giant open room that they had as I feel it's such a stress on the animals as well as on the people who are with them. I have a bad back and had trouble just standing there and was never offered a seat. Other than that, I was really happy that they were so good to take care of my Curls right away. Veterinary Emergency Group, on North Ave, Chicago is a life saver - my cat's life. Marianne has an infection in her paw. We hope. It swoll up so big, even after they gave her a 14 day antibiotic shot, that they now think it might be a cancerous mass. Dr. Megan Figger gave her a stronger antibiotic and rather than try to hustle or upsell me, she considered my economic state: had cancer, cured with a transplant but, left receiving SSDI disability, ie: way poor. So, Dr. Figger said Marianne needs to have this infection immediately cut out and the removed tissue biopsied, but honestly, she continued, we can refer you to a clinic (Animal Welfare League) that will do a great job for about 1/4 the price we previously quoted. Wow, honesty at the expense of brazen capitalism (in America!). God bless these people - I could never afford what they said it would cost. The staff is also exceptional, starting at the front counter with Josh, ever helpful and resourceful. Bri, the tech had Marianne hypno-tamed and like "yeah, stick me wherever, dude." Dr Billand saw us the week before and was just as exceptional. These are really good people. read more

This is the best veterinary facility I've ever been to. They took care of my dog in the most human way. They really did make sure that I was feeling comfortable as well my doggy. We got calls from the surgeon right before starting my dogs procedure as well as right after it was done. Everytime I called to ask for updates, they gave me information on my dogs status in the kindest way. Also, the doctors and nurses in here are very knowledgeable and highly trained, right away they were able to provide me with a potential diagnosis followed by some exams needed to confirm it. And I want to add that, they're definitely honest professionals not even once I felt like they were trying to do any unnecessary procedure just to get my money (I have been to other places where they just seem to care more about $$$). read more

A small but mighty experience. Tonight, my dog came in from a walk, aggressively pawing at his mouth and acting like he was trying to get something out. We were panicking and called. We were able to talk to the doctor right away and she suggested we check his mouth for anything that might've gotten stuck or if something stung him. After taking her advice, we found a stick lodged between his teeth on the roof of his mouth. We're grateful that the doctor was kind and calm enough to give us the help we needed. read more

I just recently adopted my 9 month old cat Scarlett. Off the bat, she's been very adventurous and gets into just about everything she can. She started experiencing pretty scary vomiting episodes and wouldn't touch her food, and I had to bring her in two times. The staff was incredible in making Scarlett and I feel safe and comfortable. They explained everything they were doing to help her to me in full detail and were so helpful and patient answering all of my questions. Overall incredibly talented and kind staff. The VEG mercilessly preys on people's desperation to save their beloved pet and unconscionably charges fees for inept services. On June 3, 2022, I took my cat, Noodles, to the VEG-a decision that I will regret for years to come. My beloved Noodles was having respiratory issues so I took him to the VEG, the nearest emergency vet location. What ensued was unimaginable chaos and trauma. Within minutes of my arrival, the VEG demanded an initial $3K to proceed with testing. After Noodles was diagnosed with pneumonia, Noodles remained at the VEG for the night in order to have access to oxygen and antibiotics. At approximately 8:00 a.m. on June 4th, I was advised that Noodles would be taken off oxygen, but that I needed to wait to see him so his breathing wouldn't be disrupted from the excitement of seeing me. That morning, I spoke with staff and Dr. Todd who indicated that I could tentatively pick Noodles up late morning/early afternoon. However, much later in the afternoon, Dr. Todd called and shockingly informed me that she had just examined Noodles for the first time. I urgently rushed to the VEG-by the time I arrived, Noodles was intubated and in a horrifying physical state. Dr. Todd informed me that because Noodles was an "exotic pet" (he was a Ragdoll cat, not an exotic animal), his heart couldn't endure the trauma and treatment that would likely be unsuccessful - leading to my heart-wrenching decision to put him down in order to spare him of extended pain and misery. Dr. Todd's much delayed examination of Noodles and lack of clear communication cause me grave concern that Noodles was improperly treated and as a result unnecessarily suffered. I spent $4K for Noodle's 16-hour lodging at the VEG and was left with nothing but his ashes and agony due to the shocking events that led to his death. I will never take another animal to this facility and strongly recommend that others do not take their pets to the VEG. read more

We had an excellent experience with VEG today. Our little guy had surgery this past week and had been licking the incision non stop. We went to this new emergency hospital and Dr Kosowski was excellent-as was the entire staff. Hillary came out to pick Desi up and she was wonderful to work with. Desi is now on the road to recovery thanks to the appropriate antibiotic and our experience couldn't have been better! I feel that even though I don't yet know the outcome for our poodle, I want to review the care I got here today so that others who need to can read it. We had Dr. McSweeney at about 5:30 AM. The entire care team rushed to attend to Lucy - she immediately got oxygen and a catheter for fluids. They did a number of blood tests which came back quickly. Ultimately, they needed an ultrasound that they didn't have the equipment for and called Blue Pearl and our dog is in Intensive Care there now. The prognosis is grim. It may be Leptospirosis and the ultimate and final test for that takes a few days to come back. She is very sick and may not make it. But I cannot think of a better initial ER experience than we had at VEG. The open concept may not be for everyone. It was very right for us. We got to be with Lucy the whole time, ask questions as they were administering care and put our hands on her when she seemed in distress. The doctor was calm and caring in answering our questions. Very thorough. We will always have animals. After this experience at VEG, we will always come here for ER care. read more

I brought my cocker spaniel here when she was experiencing back pain and had trouble with her hind legs. The staff was very welcoming and took great care of my dog. The vet saw her immediately and we were in and out in a timely manner. They were conscience of how expensive vet visits can be and didn't do any unnecessary tests. They were gentle with my dog and gave me good advice of how to prevent future flareups. I am so glad VEG exists now. read more

I felt obligated to write a review today. My 10 month old Bernedoodle ingested a foreign object and was brought to VEG. Upon arrival we were immediately taken in and made comfortable with chairs and a blanket. The staff was so warm and welcoming and immediately made sure my pup was in stable condition. We waiting patiently until Dr. Figger (an absolute angel) talked to us about the procedure and was very thorough and concise. I felt at this point we were going to receive the highest quality care. I could also overhear her rallying the staff and explaining that she wanted each member to provide positive compliments during their shifts. It's the little things like this that calm patients as they wait to be cared for. We received multiple updates throughout the procedure and my baby boy is recovering from the surgery. I didn't feel once pressured for payment and I was even able to be with my little guy up until the surgery. I have nothing but good things to say about VEG and the care they provide. I was very dissappointed with the service I received today. I brought my pup in at 130 pm, did check in right away which i thought was a great start... or so I thought... 1.5 hours later was my first "check in" for vitals and see what was causing bleeding for my pup(ended up being a UTI), was told to go back and wait just for a tiny bit as they were going to prep a table to run some tests, another 1.5 hours go by... nada. We then go for tests, which go well but shortly after I am told I needed to perform a culture on my dogs urine sample(shes only 1.5 years old and rarely is this seen in young dogs). Doctors ensured me this is the best option for me, even though right after and calling my vet they said she didn't even need it in the first place. To top it off my "antibiotics" aren't even for UTI's, they're for skin infections... love spending $900 bucks and sitting around for 7 hours for nothin. Next time avoid this place AT ALL COSTS read more

I can't say enough positive things about this ER. I thought our dog tore her ACL one night because she was suddenly not using one of her back legs. We called VEG and spoke with a vet right away, and we're urged to come in. The parking/drop off situation isn't ideal at all, but staff came out with a gurney for our dog and brought us straight back, where she was assessed immediately. This is a triage situation, so of course, the most serious cases have priority. Although we did wait two hours to see a vet, the team checked in on us frequently and made us feel comfortable. Dr. Schwartz was very warm and extremely professional and knowledgeable. She was great with our dog, as was everyone who helped us. Dr. Schwartz provided us with high to low estimates for what would be done and we agreed on a course of action, including X-rays. Much to our relief, it wasn't an ACL problem but a treatable soft tissue injury. They filled the medication right there and Dr. Schwartz answered all of my questions. I have never had a more thorough, communicative, compassionate ER vet visit in my life. You never want to have to go to an ER- human or animal - but if you need a pet ER, I highly recommend VEG. read more

Dr Jennifer Tanner was by far one of the best veterinarians I've come across. She was understanding how to handle a delicate situation with the client as well as handle taking care of an anxious pet in the emergency room. She was very straightforward with me from the beginning and advised me of my options as she would treat her own pet. It was not good news but Dr Tanner really handled it like a pro I am so grateful and the staff works very hard as well. My usual vet requires a muzzle for my temperamental dog. But the doctor let me be a part of the process and we got it done with only using a cone which was huge for us! I would %1000 recommend anyone here in an emergency. If Dr Tanner ever opens own clinic I will the the first to sign up! read more

I think its unacceptable to disregard patients for that long during an emergency. I could gave gotten her help much sooner if I called the other hospital first. read more

The staff was nice but I took my 5 month old puppy there with kennel cough. The vet must have been a new graduate or something. She looked extremely young (which wasn't an issue), but she prescribed him hydrocodene. Why on earth would she prescribe him that? I had to take him to my primary vet a few days later and received an antibiotic. I should have questioned her about it, but it was 4am, and I could barely see straight. read more

This place is a house of horrors. After asking no questions and getting no information about us or our dog, they rushed us to the back room which was filled to the brim with animals in every corner. No one was wearing gloves with the animals, and they certainly weren't cleaning their equipment between patients. This clinic is dirty and unhygienic. The staff at Veterinary Emergency Group is unprofessional and unfriendly. The person that "greeted" us acted entirely disinterested, wasn't wearing her mast, and was eating at her desk. They will bait and switch you, leaving you with a massive bill and a questionable diagnosis. Veterinary Emergency Group is a vile place, taking advantage of people in difficult circumstances. Avoid this place at all costs, and take your pet somewhere they will get the love and care they need. read more

I had to rush my pet here late at night in critical condition. They took her in right away and explained every step of the way what they were doing and what was going to happen. They explained all my options and helped me understand what was going on. The doctor was so kind and helpful. Unfortunately, her condition worsened after a few hours and after a diagnosis the best option was to put her out of any further suffering and put her to rest. The whole staff made a horrible and difficult situation as comfortable as possible. Every single staff member I dealt with, including reception and the doctor, were all so kind and caring from start to finish. I took my dog there early last week and had a very positive experience. NO SERVICES were pushed on me. I was well informed throughout the visit. Shane was super as well as Dr. Shanks. I have no complaints whatsoever. There are a couple private rooms which I'm sure are available on request. I was concerned about MY dog not anyone else who was there. I brought my dog here in the evening because she suddenly started showing signs of bloat. I'd never heard of this place prior to bringing my dog here last night but it was the second emergency vet I called and the first to say they had room for my dog. First, the person at reception couldn't have been nicer or more welcoming. We were then brought into the triage area. I've never been to an ER set up this way - it is essentially one large room with several triage stations set up, a few seating areas, a few private rooms off to the side and the vets/nurses have their desks right there in the main triage area. You are with your pet the whole time they are treating them and they let you participate in the treatment, for example they asked if I wanted to hear my dogs heartbeat when they were checking her blood pressure. They also explained everything they were doing in the moment. While there were other families there with their pets, you would think it would be chaotic and loud but it was the opposite. The team was incredibly organized, calm and quiet which kept the pet parents calm and quiet. It was cool to see the nurses/vets in action and how they communicate/work together. Literally everything they are doing is visible to the pet parent in the moment so there are no questions about what is happening. They did move more serious patients and their families into private rooms for privacy. I've never seen a set up like this but I really like it and appreciated the transparency and being able to be with my dog the entire time. Kudos to the team with how organized, efficient, communicative, genuinely collaborative and compassionate they were with each other and the patients! read more

My three year old boy cat was being stubborn all day. First he wouldn't drink any water, so I added water to his evening wet food. Then he wouldn't use the litter box. Which of course was stressful for me. I called Veterinary Emergency Group at 11 PM on a Friday night and the technician Bree talked me through the options for my cat's potential treatment, gave me the warning signs to watch out for relating to certain issues, and generally offered incredibly helpful advice to help make sure my cat was able to overcome his issues. I greatly appreciate Bree's help tonight, and my cat does too. I highly recommend Veterinary Emergency Group for caring and knowledgeable staff that care about your pet's well being. read more

I brought my fur baby Foxy in for vomit and diarrhea and refusing to eat, the vet saw her after a 5hr wait and said we needed to do an Xray, I agreed and they did the Xray and had to send it out to be interpreted by a "specialist " after the xray she said they just see alot of gas and it can be an obstruction or not you have to come back tomorrow and do another xray, so at this point I'm out almost $900 with no answer, no treatment plan, no medicine. I asked if I could get a discount for the second xray and she said no. I don't have alot of money so that put me in a horrible position because I had to take my baby home still sick and with no answers. The worst part is that she continued to vomit and at that point I didn't want her suffering so I had to start thinking if I had to put her down since I couldn't afford another xray and did not want her to suffer which was devastating. Myself and my partner suffer from anxiety and depression and this really put us in a bad spot. On Tuesday morning I took her to her primary vet which was able to look at the xray, without having to send it out to a "specialist " and he also examined her and based on his exam,he saw that she was having gas and prescribed her omeprazole which worked and she started to feel better the very next day. It's unbelievable that you call this VEG group as a place that cares for pets when clearly it's all about the money for you guys. I will recommend to as many people as I know and the rescue group I worked with to never go here. The vet that saw my Foxy is extremely incompetent. She saw the gas on the xray and didn't give her any medication for it instead wanted us to get her another xray because of course that would make more money and didn't care that my poor dog was suffering through all of this. Incredible. What a waste of time and money and most importantly it's sad how much you don't care about these poor pets. read more
