Makes me think about the differences between genies and academics. One grants wishes, the other wishes for grants. Tickets purchased for 9 pounds in the shop across the road. 25 if you want a guide, which seems more than a bit excessive. Even 9 is a bit too much given that you can only enter one building, which is the chapel. The courtyard is quite impressive though and the buildings are full of so much academic history. The chapel is quite impressive and basically what you are paying for. The ceiling has a very elaborate design. So much stained glass, I learnt that one of the ingredients for the coloured glass is dry urine. How did they come up with this? Some guy went, You know what would make this colour more vibrant, a 5 day old pee puddle off the floor from the bathroom! There are smaller rooms to the side of the main chapel where you can learn the history of the building, the construction and Kings behind it. Some of it is very detailed and technical, I need like a 5th grader synopsis version, sadly I think my take away from the informational signs was that part about dry urine being used to make coloured glass. I also learnt that students back in the day were not allowed to watch plays or keep pets or basically do anything fun, if they did they were beaten and not given any food.

I am writing this review to hopefully save some people a lot of time, money and effort…read more I contacted Fulbridge as I was interested in working as a support worker. I sent my C.V and was contacted for a telephone interview. I was offered a job so I asked about the shift patterns as I am self-employed and hopefully wanted to work both jobs, while I gained experience with Fulbridge. I was told very clearly that this would be no problem, that I could work 4/5 hour shifts and fit it in around my current job as the role was very flexible. I was also told that I would always be posted in homes that were in my hometown of Derby. After being offered the "job", I was then asked to pay for a DBS (£55) plus a £10 administration fee. I was then told by Z that I would be contacted regarding training once I had sent all of my personal information...passport, driving licence, proof of address etc due to the nature of the job. I contacted Fulbridge a few weeks later to ask about training as the previous dates that had been sent, I couldn't attend. I was told by D that there was a six week turnaround and all my information had been deleted. After a conversation of me expressing how much I wanted to work in this role, D agreed to start the application again. This time I had to fill out an application and then send off all my information again. I was then sent dates/locations for the training day. The nearest training day was in Sheffield. I am in Derby so it was a good 50 minute drive for me to get there in rush hour traffic, I also had to take an unpaid day off from work to attend. Training was OK, however you are told minimal amount of information as to how the company works in a practical sense. Training completed. I return home and a week or so later (after requesting twice that I had heard nothing since the training day) I receive the "candidate booklet". Within this booklet it states that you can be posted out up to 40 mile radius of your hometown and the shift patterns are very set and not flexible as Fulbridge would have you believe. You have to text in what shifts you are available to do for the coming week and they do not tell you if they need you for that shift, however if you get told to go to a home at a moments notice you have to go as they have a "one strike rule". For example, a close friend of mine who also applied for a job at the same time as myself, put her name down to work a shift that began at 11. At 10:45 they received a text to say they had to travel from Derby to Worksop. You're expected to be there fifteen minutes early so how can this be possible? Not only that, but if you put your name down for a shift and they don't need you, you simply are waiting around "just in case you're texted to go to work". If you are the kind of person who has nothing else to do but sit around and wait for these texts, then it's great. But if you have a family and would need to arrange childcare then it's completely unworkable. After realising that I'd been mislead, I sent this email to Z at Fulbridge. I was told that I could work around my current job, maybe 4/5 hour shifts to gain experience and I would always be located within my city of Derby. Looking through the candidate booklet this doesn't seem to be the case and I'm very disappointed and feel like I have been mislead... Had I been told from the outset that I could possibly be sent 40 miles away from Derby or that shifts would be set as stated in the booklet, I would not have continued with the process. I paid for the DBS check and also took an unpaid day off from work to attend the training, as well as petrol costs to get from Derby to Sheffield for a job that I would not be able to do. Which to me, is very upsetting as I feel this type of work would be something I would have been good at and had taken very seriously with all the information given at the training. Not to mention the time it took emailing information over, not once, but twice. I feel that potential employees should be given a truthful account of what is expected so that they're not wasting their money and time going through the recruitment process to have nothing at the end...I hope you can at least give me some kind of explanation as to why this has happened. I never received a reply. AVOID!
