What a great find! We were directed here by the receptionist of the Hotel opposite where the…read morerestaurant was closed for the evening. No English spoken but luckily our friendly receptionist had printed out a menu and had a stab at translating it for us. Using sign language and the universal 'Beer please' we settled down with our drinks and managed to order a meal that had been described as Meat and Salad.....on reflection we noted that the waitress gave us a strange look when she said 'OK' and no wonder because what turned up was probably a meal for 2 - each! Start with a bowl of salad (LARGE) with Coleslaw, Potato salad, cucumber, tomatoes, etc smothered in dressing. Then add a dish of thick cuts of Chicken, Pork and Beef (2 of each) with fries and various veg. Finally a selection of dips and a large basket of bread to fill any empty corners - needless to say that one more beer and we were totally out of those! Very friendly staff and although there was no real atmosphere, probably as it was early on a Tuesday night we really enjoyed our first meal in Poland And the cost of ths extravaganza ....less than £10 a head including drinks! Highly recommended if you are ever in Lubin. Didn't feel I could give this excellent because of the language issue and lack of atmosphere but maybeI'm being a bit harsh. http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowUserReviews-g274804-d8872617-r330726905-Memo_Bar_Restaurant-Lubin_Lower_Silesia_Province_Southern_Poland.html#

At 9:00 pm, Wroclaw's square was hopping with pedestrians patronizing the dozens of restaurants, bars and clubs with their European-style seasonal sidewalk cafes that line the square of this attractive college town of 600,000 making it the third or fourth largest metropolitan area of Poland after Warsaw and Kraków. La Scala, a well-renowned Italian eatery with an attractive outside-awning'd cafe was our choice for the evening. I have dined in many of the Wroclaw's most popular restaurants over the years having been involved in our company's business activities in this region but last night was a first for La Scala. The baked lasagna was the talk of our end of the table and in fact became my choice after sharing a few outstanding appetizers of bruschetta and calamari. I could tell immediately by the full-bodied tomatoes and zesty-sweet sauce on the appetizers that La Scala was for real...a real Italian enclave tucked into this meat-and-potatoes corner of the world. Their signature lasagna was served piping hot in a large baked dish. It's distinguishing feature was its surprisingly light sheets of pasta interlaced with cheese and their prize-winning tomatoey topping. La Scala got the job done in style for our large group last night. Got to throw 'em a quattro.

The food was good- pasta dishes were better than average, mussels were slightly better than average and pizza was average. My highlight of the meal was the rum-infused Grzaniec (hot wine).
