I remember shopping here with my grandparents in the mid-late '80's, back when weekend vendors would come and show off new toys, tools, clothing, etc. There was a KB Toys and Brody's was the place to get great clothes.
I used to work for Radio Shack in this mall from '99-02. The place was great; it was clean (still is) and there were still food stands and restaurants (Chick-Fil-A, Andy's, another deli/burger joint that I can't remember the name of, and a few smaller ones as well) a pet store, and lots of variety.
Now, most of that is gone. Two of the three anchors have left, there is no food outlet to be seen, the lights are off or dimmed in 15-20% of the walkable areas due to no stores in the section, and it just feels tired. And, there are only two sets of public restrooms.
The mall has a HUGE atrium ( you can see a bit of it in one of the pictures) that is perfect for demoing radio-controlled helicopters, maybe planes as well. Long straightaways perfect for pinewood derby contests (something they hosted in the past) as well as improved WI-FI for stores and patrons. The first two would only really benefit a hobby store, but that would at least be a change!
I wish they could attract some businesses to come in, maybe rent free for a time to get established even. Sadly, this place will probably close within the next few years. read more
