PSA: Verizon Wireless - 1st Street, Gilroy My iPhone suddenly stopped working yesterday - displayed SOS in the place of bars. Couldn't send or receive calls or texts. When I turned the device off and back on, I received an alert about a SIM card failure, so I went to the Verizon store on 1st Street to get a new one. My daughter recently experienced something similar and went to a Verizon store in Monterey where she was given a new SIM at no charge, so I figured it would be the same for me. I thought wrong. Another lady was in line ahead of me, there for the same issue, and was in the process of getting her SIM replaced. The guy working at the desk asked me what I needed and then proceeded to tell me that a new SIM card would be $10 plus a $40 activation fee. So, $50 bucks. This seemed really odd to me, especially since that store sold me my phone, it's THEIR SIM card, and I carry insurance on all my devices which I pay a premium for each month, so why would I need to PAY to replace a faulty SIM card, much less an additional fee to activate it? The guy basically shrugged his shoulders and told me if I wanted to replace my SIM card, I'd need to pay $50. He was still helping the other woman, so while I waited, I decided to call Verizon Customer Support on my work phone and spoke to an agent who also didn't know why I was being charged for a new SIM card! But, he told me not to worry because he could just program an eSIM on my device so that I wouldn't even need to get a new SIM card! After verifying my account, remotely connecting to my phone, and running through a few diagnostic/setup steps, I walked out of the store 20 minutes later with a fully functioning phone and $50 still in my pocket. I feel bad for the woman who was in line ahead of me. She got a new SIM, but was forced to pay $50 to get her device back up and running. I'm not sure why the worker was charging for something that should be free, but more to the point, why he wasn't advising customers that they might not even need a new card, and to call Customer Support to get setup with an electronic SIM (subject to phone compatibility). I'd care to wager that same employee might have been able to program one in the store if he'd had the motivation to. I can't presume to know the guy's reasons; maybe he was just following directions, who knows? But, it all felt like a bit of a shakedown to me, and to make matters worse, he wasn't even trying to be nice about it. So, a word to the wise if this happens to you - save yourself $50 and call Verizon Customer Support - (800) 922-0204. This store doesn't know what they're doing, or maybe they do, and it's a good little scam... Either way, you can bet you're gonna be charged for it! On a side note, if you really do need a new SIM card - you can get them at the Apple Store for free (Los Gatos, Oakridge & Valley Fair). read more

After spending hours in store, purchasing new phones for my whole family I was sent home and left with the responsibly of transferring all the old data from my old phone to my new phone. During the process of purchasing these phones not once was storage mentioned, I had exceeded all the storage limit on my old phone and my new phone was the same amount of storage. When trying to transfer on my own my brand new iPhone 16 started glitching out and I cannot get into the phone or shut it off, and my old device is left with no service I stopped by the store before they closed and all that was left of the employees were two new morons that laughed at the situation and said "nice color" about my new phone. So we quickly rushed to the other Verizon on the other side of town just to find out that I have to wait until tomorrow to go to Best Buy to get the new device wiped. And that we would have to return to the Verizon where we purchased the phone but the only one working tomorrow is the only new working moron, because that is what they said. And they also informed us that they had no idea what to do. After spending over $1,000 and hours of my life just to get a quote I can say with FULL confidence that I won't be returning to this Verizon. I recommend the extra ten minute drive to the Verizon across town on Camino Arroyo. Don't waste your time with these morons read more

EMPLOYEE CHRIS IS EITHER EXTREMELY MANIPULATIVE or EXTREMELY MISINFORMED... PLEASE READ. I'm not here to destroy anyone's reputation but simply to share my experience. Judge for yourself... I went there to upgrade my phone and buy a Samsung watch4 which is returned it later that day from Samsung s8 to s22 ultra. Chris answered every questions I had(I thought truthfully, ill get to it more). He saw i had a s8 phone and said you can trade it in and he looked at my phone and checked on his computer and said "you WILL get 400$ trade in for it and finance the remaining" Then he ordered my phone since didn't have it in store. When I went to pick up and setup the phone and plan. He helped set it up and then I asked again. "When do we apply for the trade in" and he said let me check and then he said " you can actually trade it in for 800$". I thought to myself "wow maybe he made a mistake of initially telling me 400. That means I only pay 400$ for the phone(1200$ - 800$). NOW THAT'S A GOOD DEAL RIGHT? He did the calculation and said if you refinance 400$ + 80$(phone plan + auto pay) that would be about 100$ per month. You would just pay any taxes + accessories in the store today. It SOUNDED FANTASTIC. Then he took my old phone, processed all the paperwork, data transfer and wiped the old one. Because I was suspicious that 800$ trade in is too good to be true, I asked for a receipt that I gave my phone and that it's worth 800$,he said I can give you a receipt but it won't indicate the amount. I didn't really question it. He sold me 1 accessory(USB type C) for watch4 which is incompatible and I returned it. Once I got home, I checked online and said my phone trade in price is ...... $15. Online on their website it says for the 5G Do more it is up to $800, meaning if you have a really recent phone but not latest, you might be able to trade it in for the maximum amount of 800$ if qualifies. He sold me about 150$ worth of accessories and I thought to myself "I'm getting 800$ off my phone, I can spend 150$ here in store instead of ordering case, protector, charger from amazon". He explicitly said "You WILL get full price for your trade in phone" and did the calculation and gave me a ~ 100 per month estimate. I have a guess that their pay is commission based but this is in my opinion is EXTREME MANIPULATION. I will be filing a formal complaint to the corporate office. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. read more

He was kind, very patient and helpful when it came to exchanging out my SIM card and making sure all the stuff from my old phone was transferred over. He took his time to make sure I was set to go and didn't rush when other guests came after me. My wife got a call from Tim saying that our phones are going to "expire" and we needed to upgrade them. He tried to schedule a appointment for us to come in for an upgrade. Tried very hard to get us to set a appointment. Never heard of a phone going to "expire" before so I called the customer support number and asked them if they had any idea what that meant. They had no idea what it meant and said that our phones and account is all good and nothing is going to "expire". Sounds like to me that "Tim" is trying to make us buy a new phone by telling us that our phone is going to "expire" when we didn't even have ours for a year. Normally never go to this store as our normal Verizon store is the one across town. They didnt have the color phone I wanted so I took my chances and came here. Nice huge store and.....NO HUGE LINES! Jose was fantastic and super nice. Upgraded my phone super fast and just super great customer service to everyone that came in. I had asked for quotes from days before at my other store so I knew roughly what I was looking at price wise, but I was shocked to see the great deals they had here and walked out with nothing out of pocket. I went to this store to check on an upgrade for my account. The associate who helped me was very nice. He checked my account and told me my line was eligible for an upgrade and there was no money showing being owed on my existing phone. He also told me he could change my plan and save me some money every month. I was told the phone I wanted was part of a "bundle package", so I got a tablet as well thinking I would save a few dollars with the new plan. Walked out spending $255, which was okay with me. The problem started when I logged onto my account 4 days later. I see my monthly bill has gone up $100 a month. I call the store and speak with someone who tells me he will look into it and call me back because he has customers in the store. Five hours later I go to the store and talk with the same associate who helped me out when I bought the phone. I tell him my problem and he goes to the manager to find out what was causing the increase. Turns out, there was a balance on my old phone that showed up AFTER my upgrade. They tell me they can't do anything for me and I can return everything, if I want. An hour later I return to the store with everything they had given me. The manager comes out and tells me I can return everything and they will refund me $5.97 after restocking fees and other miscellaneous fees!?!?!?! He takes the money out of the register and goes to hand it to me, then tells me since it was on a credit card I needed to provide the card so they could refund the money! Since I wasn't planning on buying anything, I had left my card at home. The manager tells me I need to go back to my house and get the card. I told him to keep the money and to please reactivate my old phone so I have something to use until I dump Verizon. He informs me that if I do not return with the card, they will charge me $800 for the phone because they cannot complete the return! After arguing with these guys for over an hour, I told them if they needed my card information, they could call me for it! I would HIGHLY recommend avoiding this place. While the sales associate was very polite, there was a lot of information left off in the process. I'm more than happy to take responsibility for being dumb by not checking the contract better, but seriously after being a Verizon customer for 15 years and this being a verified Verizon dealer, I'm HUGELY disappointed and will be looking for a new provider. read more

Beware this is not a Corporate location and the a$$h0le manager by the name of Nick will do everything to rip you off. Came in to take advantage of a promotion Verizon had online, even had a screenshot of the webpage. The moron took over an hour to process the sale and instead of the promo, he sold me the phone at full retail price to be paid on an installment plan and added a Total Care Package for $99 and claim it is the cost of the phone. If I had not reviewed the charges, I would have paid an extra $200+ instead of saving some dough. After some questioning, he says this is a retail location and can't do corporate promos. When pressed some more the guy got flustered and came up with all kind of lies to save face and claimed I was rude for demanding to examine the charges on the contract. Needless to say, I left and found the Corporate store at the Gilroy Crossing Shopping Center and got my phone there. Let me tell you, it is like night and day. The employees at the Corporate store was friendly, helpful, efficient, didn't give me the runaround or sneak in extra charges. You tell them what you want, they do it for you. We went here to upgrade my wife's old flip phone with a new iPhone 5. We thought this was a regular Verizon store but released it was a reseller once we got into the storefront. I thought I was going in to spend $170 to $200. It ended up costing me over $500 some of which I was over sold on. Since this is my wife's first smart phone, she was concerned about having the phone stolen at work (already happened once to a flip phone) or dropping and breaking it. The Sales Tech (Lucas) sold us a $199.99 ProtectCell plan. Today I go to the website and find I could have gotten the coverage I needed for $99. Seems the tech forgot to mention there was a cheaper plan. (He also promised a 25% discount on the Case that turned into a 15% discount on the receipt. We went in at 11am on a Saturday and there was no waiting. By the time we were done, there were two others waiting to be served. Next time I'll drive over to the Verizon corporate store near 101 & 152. read more

Decided to stop by here today on my lunch break at about 12:45pm. The store was locked up and there was a sign that said "Out to Lunch". There was no time stating when they would be back. An elderly gentleman was waiting outside to pay his bill and said he had been there for 30 mins already. We waited for 20+ minutes until a girl finally appeared from the back room and opened the door. Several other potential customers came and left while we were waiting including two members of the military who were looking to buy a phone. Why would they completely close at a time when folks are most likely to stop in and shop or pay a bill? Once we got in we found that they didn't even have the phone we were looking to buy (which is currently one of the best rated phones for Verizon). I've been here once before and they didn't have what I wanted then either. No wonder there are no long lines...they don't open the doors so people can shop there! He was knowledgeable and completely honest about what I needed. After transfering all my data, contacts, pictures, etc., he assisted me with my Bluetooth setup in my vehicle. I just saw some other people had a bad experience with Jose the manager at this location also...he needs a class in customer service!. Hopefully you're reading yelp reviews before you go into the store and are now choosing a different store to purchase your iPhone and accessories. I was there on my birthday getting a new iPhone and as the salesperson (i asked her name at the end but forgot it) was going through all the costs I wrote everything down to the penny of what this would cost me so that we we were clear. While the salesperson was setting up my new phone she proceeded to put on a screen protector while we were talking so I assumed it came with it. She tried selling me an overpriced car charger, but I said no, I will look for it cheaper somewhere else. After way too long of a time in the store because they couldn't figure out how to transfer the data, I overheard the sales person talk to multiple people who had complaints and all she kept saying was you'll need to talk to my manager when he returns in two days. I thought it strange that she never helped anyone and just kept passing it off to the manager (but now I know why). When she rang me up I asked for the details and she told me "plus the accessories". I said what accessories? She said the screen protector was $70! I told her that I never asked for a screen protector and I've never used one before. She then proceeded to tell me that I can go online and register it so that I'm protected if my screen gets damaged. At this point I was just anxious to get home and was late for my birthday dinner. Of course I found the same screen protector on amazon for $10 and so i decided I would return the item that I never asked for but charged $70! I was told I had up to 14 days to return my items so after being out of town, on the 13th day I went back to the store and of course the same sales person was there and refused to help me telling me that screen protectors are not returnable and told me that I need to talk to the manager the next day. So the next day (today) I called and spoke to Jose and when I explained what happened he said that I cannot return it because I had been "using" it for two weeks. He said If I had come back in a day or two to return it he would have given me a refund. I explained that I was out of town and couldn't get back until yesterday. I also explained that it was pretty shady for the sales person to put the screen protector on without asking me and then proceed to charge me. He was very argumentative and I was done with him and that store and so all I can do is Yelp in hopes that no one else has to deal with such poor customer service! read more

After 10 years of at&t mediocre service I decided to switch. As soon as I stepped into the store I was welcomed and immediately assisted by Guillermo solis. I went straight to the point and he had every answer to my questions with additional information. He is well informed and makes sure he understands the question to ensure he is not jumping around. My grandma went into this location the other day she said a young man by the name of Armando helped her out with some issues she was concerned about on her bill. She was saying how had great customer service and was VERY helpful. She left the store very pleased. He even helped her figure out how to download and show her how to use her Netflix account on her phone ! She's little behind when it comes to these smart phones. The last time she went we went in there we were assisted by another guy who said he was an assistant manager but he didn't really have any answers to our questions so we left i'm really glad she went when Armando was working he's the only one I go back to at this location and now same for her. read more

I went in to this location a couple of months ago when I was having issues with my iPhone, and there was a young man who helped me by the name of Armando who was very gracious and very understanding to what I needed done. Having eaten close by the night before, my wife suggested that we visit the Verizon location near Target/Chipotle on the other side of the highway. After 15 minutes of waiting and watching other people wait, I gave up and left the store. Today I went to JW Wireless. The service was excellent and I spent less than 10 minutes in the store (all that should have been required for my transaction). Duke was great and I would strongly recommend that everyone, especially those who have been disrespected and treated poorly at the other store across town (and there are many of you as I can see from other Yelp reviewers) start doing your Verizon-related business at JW Wireless at the N. 1st Street location in the Nob Hill shopping center. read more

In-store review: 2* Nice store, clean, with plenty of staff. We needed 2 new phones and the store rep was happy to provide. The problems started when they started promising no additional charges, but when I read through the documents, there were additional fees for the new phones, etc etc. After they explained their new procedures, I got him to verbally promise that the plan I was signing up for, with taxes and "equipment charges" included, was equal to or less than my current charge. Lo and behold, my bill ended up being 30% more than prior to me walking in. I decided to handle this online, and my online rep Alysha was able to find me a better plan for the price I had thought I was getting originally. Very thankful to have it all taken care of. The in-store rep also signed us up for warranty plans for our new phones without our authorization. Very shady! Beware. You can cancel online if they did the same thing to you.
