Rick’s Coffee Bar - A seasonal flight: peppermint mocha, eggnog chai, snickerdoodle latte

Love a good coffee flight. I've been wanting to get back to Rick's ever since the Yelp event I…read moreattended awhile back. Love the mission here! They have a $10 flight w/ 3 8oz drinks- really good deal. The Lucky charm mocha was definitely my fav. The staff were nice and friendly. Very cozy vibes. Street parking but it's in a corner so plenty of options.

I didn't see any "warm fuzzies" toward me or any of the later customers. Coffee: I calorie-splurged on a Peanut Butter Mocha. Frankly, it was overly sweet and there was little evidence of peanut butter. Definitely not one of the better mochas I've tried. Danish: I was disappointed not to see any breakfast items on the menu, so I ordered a danish from the limited selection (at 8:30 am on a Monday) and hoped for the best. Just then, a screen flashed up a "bacon breakfast waffle" for $5, so I went with that instead. Breakfast Sandwich: Ooh, not good. First, very small, and sufficiently microwaved from freezing that one half of it was hard as a rock. Definitely not worth $5, let alone $2. Very disappointing. Environs: Sort of a mid-sized cafe with perhaps 10 small tables. I scored one near a power outlet, but I couldn't figure out which WiFi was the correct one, and all of them were password-protected. The staff were busy, so I just went with my phone hot spot. Bathrooms and the tables were clean. Hopefully, my experience is an anomaly, but I'm not going to make the effort to find out.

This shop invites us in just by the ambiance inside and out. The brewed medium roast is Columbian with hints of citrus according to the barista. The shop is compact and they make wise use of the space but have limited seating, we'll call it cozy. There is a menu and some grab to munch pastries, banana bread Thursdays I've been told. Plenty of signs reminded us they are open on Sundays.

Refreshing and unique! I also couldn't pass up their special--a Churro Cold Brew--which was just as delicious as it sounds. While I was at the counter, I noticed they had a Pop-Tart style pastry from a local baker, so I gave that a whirl too. It was super tasty and a nice touch to see them supporting other small businesses. Overall, everything I tried was really flavorful and enjoyable. That said, it's definitely on the pricier side. The staff was very friendly and easy to chat with, which added to the positive experience. Next time, I'll probably limit myself to just one or two items, but I'll definitely be back when I'm in the mood to treat myself.

We came around 1pm on a weekday and there was a bit of a wait as it was only one person making drinks and serving customers. They have an extensive menu with so many specialty drinks. It was a bit of decision fatigue before finally landing on our order. I tried the bananarama chai and my friend had their lychee matcha. The matcha almost tasted completely fruity with no actual matcha taste, to the point where it came off more like a smoothie or juice than a caffeinated drink. My chai wasn't bad, but I didn't get much of the banana flavor. The space itself has a few tables and there is free WiFi as well. They always announce new seasonal drinks so I may come back if anything catches my eye.

I used to live in the area and when the small coffee shop opened I was so exited to have that in our community and was happy to support them - even if some coffee beverages were top dollar. I was in the area today, and decided to stop in since I no longer live in the area and wanted to enjoy a good brew. Unfortunately, the experience I had left me leaving with a bitter taste in my mouth - and it wasn't from the coffee. I thought it goes without saying, but when a customer greets you, you should greet them back, not just stare. It would be even better if your staff would greet each customer first - make them feel welcome. Maybe I'm a millennial channeling boomer energy, but for years I'm noticing the customer service disappearing from a lot of businesses. I love that connection, but I'm understanding that some people see only a paycheck and skid by with minimal customer service and that is the new way. I don't plan to visit this establishment again. I wish the barista with star tattoos would have put in enough customer service energy that she did with her impeccable makeup.
