Verden is a decent rehearsal space situated in a ramshackle building in post-apocalyptic landscape in Potobello. It has a Mad Max grafitti vibe. Easy to book, reasonably friendly staff. Couple of big rooms with decent enough equipment (although drummer says kits are crap). Open till midnight. 3 hour session costs us £25 (without discounts big rooms are about £12 an hour). Verden Studios is situated in Portobello, and serviced from the city centre by Lothian bus numbers 15 and 26. Tucked away in a semi-industrial area, its large and ramshackle appearance brings back memories of the famous 5 and smugglers for a small fee, one can book a room, set up your gear or borrow some from the friendly and helpful owner, crank up the volume and get the grooves cooking. A half graffiti half theme-based paint job nurtures a creative and free atmosphere, and a kettle, fridge and sink add the final, homely touch. read more
