I love Verde. Whenever I don't feel like making dinner, this is my number one stop. The selection is HUGE and always very fresh. There are so many different combinations and flavors to design into your food that it never gets old. I am able to get a flavorful and colorful salad for myself and a meaty hearty salad for my fiance. The service is always over the top. All of the people that work there always are extremely friendly, happy to help, and very welcoming. They always take the time to actually hold a conversation and seem happy to help. To be honest, I didn't have high hopes of finding one since we were in the south and I know salads, a restaurant that only serves salads are more of a California healthy kind of thing. I got pretty excited when I found a solely salad place in downtown Charleston. They have a lot of different salads on the board and a make your own salad option as well. I got the Farmer's market without the beets. The worker was really nice and said since I didn't want the beets, did I want to add more of one of the other ingredients or something else. I think I asked for corn. It's made super quick although granted, there wasn't a line when I got there nor did a line form while I was waiting for my order. I think when school is in session, this place can get pretty packed. I ate at the restaurant, which I saw a lot of other customers do as well. It was pretty chill, just me enjoying my fresh green salad. The Green Goddess dressing was light, so it really helped elevate the level of health I was aiming for. I was so excited for my chickpea salad which I would usually highly recommend but there was NO dressing on it. Unfortunately this has happened more than once and still I haven't learned. **edit - Verde immediately reached out after my negative experience and within two days they had set me up for a new salad to better my experience. What a fantastic experience! In town for business meetings and meeting planning, so we were sort of obligated to eat at the fancier places for dinner. We wanted something light, healthy, and fast as we made our way from venue to venue and meeting to meeting. LOVE this concept! The staff was friendly, knew what flavors to mix together for those who needed help, and made recommendations on things like "Sweet Tea Vinegarette" which was a first for us. It was delicious! Wish they would bottle it! The iced tea selection was also a welcome surprise. While I could drink gallons of Southern sweet tea, I don't like running off the calories in the summer heat and humidity, so the unsweet, and green tea options were a hit with our group. Conveniently located in the middle of the shops and restaurants of High Street. Casual, trendy atmosphere. Your standard 'chop-chop' salad place. Large dining area if you want to eat in and the staff was nice. The usual suspects as far as ingredients, but not the huge selection you have in large cities. For instance, there is really only one vegetarian option in the proteins section - basic tofu. Not grilled. Not sauteed. Just tofu. YAY: good selection of drinks and sodas. Cucumber + sparkling water is a nice option. NAY: I had my salad in the popular 'wrap' format and the wrap basically just spread open like a big beautiful whole-wheat flower upon unwrapping. I went during lunch with a coworker. The menu offered a selection of different salads as well as create your own options. The line moved quickly and the staff were friendly, but the salad was just another salad, I have to admit. I like that they are chopped and the level of dressing was pretty good (they didn't skimp or drown it). It's absolutely good place if you want a salad, but the salad didn't stand out from anything else I've had. On the plus side, I will say it's a great healthy option, a nice quick place for a weekday lunch, and a pleasant atmosphere, just nothing I'm dying to return to as soon as possible. Simply stated, Verde serves ok salads that are kind of overpriced. I've ordered from here a couple of times and never been overly impressed. The last salad I got from there had "avocado" which was inedible because it wasn't ripe, and somehow the avocado pitt ended up in my salad. It wouldn't have been as annoying if I hadn't paid extra for the avocado as a premium side. Only real upside is that the delivery option is convenient since I work downtown. Edit: Now that Verde is charging an additional $2 for delivery, I won't be ordering lunch from them anymore. The best salads I've ever had. This place is definitely my go to for anything green on my plate. From it's downtown location or West Ashley, I've never had a better salad. My personal favorite is the Mesa Verde, which is packed with flavor and color. It is most certainly my go to salad. The Southern Harvest and Mello Bello are also great choices. The store should earn a 5-star rating simply on the salads; however, the customer service needs a tad more work. I've been a fan of Verde's salads since their first store opened on King St. It's great to have a quick, healthy lunch (or dinner) option amongst the many sandwiches and chains downtown. Big fan of the Mesa Verde, and especially their warm grain bowl. Verde can also make any of their salads as a wrap, which is a nice option though I haven't taken advantage of it. The salads were also very nicely made and colorful, with high quality ingredients. However the drinks were mediocre, with weak overpriced tea. I thought the menu as a whole is very expensive. I'm a salad lover, and Verde makes good salads. If you follow my reviews, you know that I'm boycotting Caviar & Bananas salads, so this is my only option. Not saying I didn't visit Verde before my boycott; it's just my only option now. TL;DR: don't order online and don't order for delivery. Try their chocolate sea salt cookie and the seasonal salads and warm grain bowls. While I love Verde, I don't suggest ordering online and/or for delivery. Recently, they began charging $1.95 for delivery. I am literally one street over and about 3 blocks up. I don't think their delivery peeps are seeing this money either. $2 for downtown delivery? I have fallen into this trap one too many times, and I'm about to cease and desist at all costs. Also, I hate the online ordering system (Chow Now) that most downtown places use. You can barely customize the salad without being a jerk and being limited to a certain number of characters (i.e. i don't want tomato, but I want to add this ingredient instead or an extra dressing...which are both the same price as the tomato). Just a cluster. Charging for extra dressing is BS. Also, about 1 in every 4 orders is messed up. Today I didn't have the protein in my Cobb on King. Ughhh. My coworker had sprouts added to her salad when she didn't want them. I think this is just because they're so busy, which I have to admit, goes to show that their salads are good. It's just frustrating at times. Recently, the owner contacted me an explained that part of the delivery fee goes towards higher compensation for the drivers, which I appreciate and agree with. While it's not feasible to order my lunch with other coworkers, if you do order over $30, the delivery fee is waived. Pros - the employees are super nice and they are always bustin' it. They also have a loyalty card which is great. If you order in person, the salad is totally worth the price. I love their seasonal salads and their warm grain bowls. Go out on a limb and try them, even if you're a traditional salad only kind of person. I don't think you'll be disappointed! Cons - pricey for delivery (see above). I got chopped salad with all kinds of goodies and balsamic. I got mine chopped and am loving it my daughter didn't really care for hers. It was dry and not mixed well. It was only 22 dollars for both plus bottled water not bad for lunch. It is certainly better than a fast chain and its right on kings street where were shopping ! Good find :) read more
