Our favorite spot to get beer in Brno. Get the pickled hermalin and Kout beer. It's killer!

Cheap, but delicious food!…read more It's a little, underground vegan/gluten free restaurant in Brno. They have a menu of the week, and everything on the menu ends up being about $5 USD. We came on a Tuesday, and ordered a lunch of the soup of the day, the Spaghetti Boscaiola and the Tofu Dynamite (with rice instead of fries.) We has a little issues trying to communicate the substitution as fries and rice sound VERY similar, but over all the waitress was very good at speaking English. Did I mention there's free WiFi? It looks like it would have live music at some point, probably at night (we sat on a stage and there were boxes for amps and stuff behind us). One of the other reviews mentioned smokers and loud music, but we didn't have a problem with that AT ALL, so maybe lunch would be a better time if you want to avoid that! Local restaurant on the town square with delicious Czech eats…read more The casual interior is charming with a single fresh flower and candle on every table. Plastic place mats, tavern themed art, and a rustic olde world feel. It's perfect for an area with uneven stone and brick roadways that are best enjoyed with sturdy shoes or boots. There is also an outdoor patio for al fresco dining when the weather permits. The meal was tasty but the starter bread was just okay. There were two types offered: soft rye and breadsticks. The breadsticks were as dry as a bone and I couldn't bring myself to taste one but the rye bread was soft and delicious. I would have preferred butter with the bread but it turned out that the rye bread was quite tasty on its own. The roasted rabbit with red and white cabbage was delicious and I would order this again. It was #42 on the menu and should have come with a "variety of dumplins" but since I also ordered a side of boiled potatoes, the server must have thought I wanted the potatoes *instead* of the dumplings. Not true. I wanted both! Anyway, the rabbit was perfectly roasted and seasoned. The cabbage was unlike any cabbage I've ever tasted. I actually ordered the side of boiled potatoes expecting some lame cabbage concoction to be staring back at me from my plate. Instead, I saw two thick, gravy-like preparations on my plate: one a rich purpley-red and the other creamy white. They were sweet and favorful and the perfect complement to the roasted rabbit. The svickova was delicious. The bread dumplings were soft and thick and the gravy was scrumptious. Service was just okay and although we spoke English since I hadn't yet downloaded my Google offline Czech translator, both servers did their best to speak to us in English. However, the menu includes 4 translations for every item which is extremely helpful. My one complaint would be my missing "variety of dumplins" and my missing server for nearly the entire meal. I wanted to ask about my dumplings but our server didn't return until we had finished our meals. Overall, I would say that the food was close to 4 stars but the service may have been lacking...possibly due to a language barrier. I'll take the service on the chin since I don't speak Czech and round the entire rating up to 4 stars.

Flavors is an Indian restaurant near the city center in Brno. It is probably the most popular…read moreIndian restaurant, both because of location and menu/price. The lunch buffet is roughly $5 USD. The restaurant is fairly small, and gets packed during lunch. During our visit we fortunately did not have to wait long before being seated, but food was being gobbled up by patrons as soon as something was brought out, and it sometimes took a long time before food was brought out. The lentil soup was on the watery side, but still had a lot of flavor. It was nicely spiced but would have been more enjoyable if a little thicker and heartier. The Samosas were nicely fried and remained crisp. The vegetable filling was nicely seasoned. The mint chutney was very colorful and bright, and reminded me of a Shamrock shake. The Papadums were nicely crisp, but a little on the oily side. They were ingrained with many spices which added a kick of flavor. We also ordered a side of Papadums which came adorned with tomatoes, cucumbers and onions. The vegetables added a freshness and another layer of flavor. The Butter Chicken was not heavily spiced and lacked any real depth of flavor. Perhaps since they were trying to get as much food out as quickly as possible, this did not give the dish enough time to develop any flavor. The Chicken Tikka had a strong tomato flavor but was lacking in the real punch of spice that Indian food is known for. The Naan was made right at the buffet station. As with all of the other food, as soon as they came out they were snatched by hungry patrons. The naan was on the thicker side, and had very little oil on top to provide much flavor. Based on this visit, Flavors did not live up to its name. The food coming out of the kitchen could not keep up with demand. I am sure that this caused a suffering in food quality. If the restaurant is busy like this everyday, then the management needs to do a better job of anticipating food needs and preparation.

I still gave it a shot and was utterly disappointed. The restaurant serves awful Indian food for lunch buffet. Naan was the only thing worth appreciation. All the veg curries were too oily and lacked good taste. Skip this place totally for lunch if u r an Indian or a fan of Indian food. Dinner is more bearable with a la carte selections.

Our late breakfast / early lunch consisted of an apple cake, raspberry cake and a bowl of veggie soup. The apple cake was interesting. It included chocolate chips, an orange slice and, methinks, a wee bit of marshmallow. I can't recall ever having anything quite like it. It wasn't overly sweet and it was a nice change for breakfast. The interior is nicely decorated and includes a tree trunk sculpture which leads from beneath the floor and climbs to the ceiling where it is securely fastened. The lunch buffet was being prepared as we were finishing up and included a wonderful variety of vegetarian eats. Overall, a nice place to grab a vegetarian-friendly bite to eat. Probably 3.5 shiny stars rounded up to 4.

The seating area is very large, but the noise level is rather high and there isn't a lot of privacy, as the seating area is indeed fairly large. I know that locals love it, and it's not easy to find a vegetarian restaurant in Brno. However, i don't think this one is the answer, nor do i think that the high prices are justified.
