It's a very pleasant walk up-and-down the waterways and across the curved bridges. This is a super cute place to check out. It's close to Santa Monica and the beaches but just far enough away that when you're walking through the canals here, you don't see the beaches. It feels like you're in a whole new area. There's a variety of different styled houses that you're walking by (please be respectful since you're basically in someone's backyard). I've always wanted to check out this hidden gem. After spending the day at Venice Beach, we decided to make the trek to the Venice Canals before heading over to Abbot Kinney. I thought it was going to be one long canal with a couple of bridges along these one-of-a-kind architectural homes. Each one look so completely different from the one next to them. But the canals are inter-connected with lots of bridges. Lots to explore here and one can spend a good amount of time taking photos. It is one of the most unique neighborhoods in California. According to the Netflix show, "Buying Beverly Hills" (episode 5), some of these prized homes sits on what is known as Walk Streets where pedestrians can walk without any cars driving by. Some are occupied by celebrities. What I wouldn't give to take a peek inside. Strolling through the narrow walk streets, it gave me a sense of zen to hear and see nature all around...it truly is an oasis. read more

There are picturesque bridges with little boats docked and Gorgeous houses along the way to look at. Love the flowers and well kept front yards of these houses. There was lots of free street parking nearby as well as public parking lots for a fee. In Venice lays the beautiful canals which surrounds muti-million dollar homes. Bridges each corner cover to reach the other end. By the looks of it every homeowner has a small dock to park their mini boats. I found it to be quite the dream. This place is walking distance to or from the beach. There is plenty of street parking available in the vicinity. It is such a calm and beautiful place to walk, take pictures, have a conversation, or go on a date. There are restaurants nearby and it's a super easy walk. This gem of a spot in Venice has definitely been a highlight for my family and I during the pandemic. It was nice to see this place featured on the #LocalAdventureChallenge because not too many people know about it. I came here a few months in July and the weather was perfect for a morning stroll along the walkways and bridge. Street parking was easy to find on Ocean Ave. We only crossed paths with another couple, but that was as much human interaction we had at the Venice Canals for about 2 hours. As you walk along the walkways, it's really nice to see the individual homes and their characteristics. We came back again in September, but because of the recent fires, you could see a lot of the ash collected in the waters so the waters look burnt orange-y and did not smell that great. There were more people out and about along the Venice Canals, some wearing masks, some not wearing masks. read more

The canals go block for block; lined with an eclectic mix of colonial, modern, to boho, architectural homes. The properties had finely manicured landscaping full of a variety of small floral gardens and trees. My day was well spent with my best friend, the love of my life, as we strolled hand in hand down the canals in no direction at all just laughing and celebrating Easter Sunday, he found all the best spots for the perfect Kodak moments. The Venice Canals is a great place to walk around. There's a lot of bridges that lead you to another part of the neighborhood. It's very peaceful and a great place to think or to do your hot girl walk. You'll see different type of houses, unique boats, people filming their social media videos, etc. It can get crowded around sunset so I would take note of the time since the walkways are also narrow. Parking is hard to find though and will need to be outside the neighborhoods where there's no parking & the roads are narrow. It's also hard to find parking since it's close to Venice Beach but well worth it if you're visiting the beach as well. read more

Fun place to stop by and see once or twice. The best time to come is likely right before sunset as seen in some of the photos from others. Cute little white bridges spanning across the canals make for some photogenic spots. The water in some areas is a bit still and smelly, only minnows in these waters. There are no two homes that look like each other. Colorful flowers, shady trees, and green hedges surround the pathways. White bridges take you over the water from one side of the canal to the other. As you walk by homes, you can see home owners enjoying the beautiful water views, painting in their patios, meeting with friends, singing while tidying up. So happy i got to visit the Venice Canals and the surrounding neighborhood. The water is dirty and I'm not sure if anyone's taken care of it since it smelled a bit here but i love how beautiful the canals looked -- and it had a buzz of life. There were abandoned boats with ducks floating in the canals. Also saw some young artists drawing along the canal edges as bikers passed with people taking a walk with their kids. So cute! The houses were adorable too and i saw locals just casually reading on their front porch. read more

We easily found parking on Ocean Ave since the street sweeping hours had just ended. I had to review one of my favorite places. The canals are beautiful. It's a beautiful place to see and take pictures. I have gone every year since 2014. Places in Venice Beach took a beating like so many places, but taking this walk makes everything fall back in sync I find many of the residents extremely friendly along the walk. They seem proud of their places or maybe it's people renting them out being proud of staying in such a nice peaceful place. I recommend taking a stroll here when you visit. It's free! Honestly this was a real downer for me. I was expecting this beautiful place, but what I got was more of a run-down area with some bridges. A delightful place to take a walk during golden hours. This is a very nice neighborhood. Each year there is Christmas light show and parade here during the holiday season. Due to the pandemic, this year's light show is cancelled. But it is still beautiful here at the golden hours. For many tourists who come to visit LA, Venice Canals is one of the must visit places. The sunset is beautiful here. With the water reflections of the sunset in the canals, the scenery is unbelievable beautiful. It's a great opportunity to take pictures here to keep your memories of LA visit. Even for locals like myself, I have taken a lot of pictures of the Canals. Every time you come here, you can always discover a different angle to take pictures. Parking here is easy. Just find one of the alleys and park along the narrow alley streets. Parking can be tricky in Venice but if you're able to find a parking spot within a reasonable walking distance to the Venice Canals, I definitely recommend a quick 15 - 30 minute stroll -- especially during the early morning hours. You're close enough to the beach where most days walking through the canals, you get a refreshing breeze. The houses are really interesting to look at and are great conversation starters. This was my second time visiting the canals and the scenery is quite lovely. I brought an out of town friend to walk stroll through and it is the perfect scenery to have while catching up. The canals are easy to find just a few blocks from the beach. You can pay for parking in the beach lot a few blocks away or park residentially which I have not tried. There are signs that say no biking in the canals but just a heads up many do not follow that rule. The paths are narrow so that can be a bit cramped. The homes surrounding the canals are beautiful to look at but are also private homes. Something to keep in mind, and be respectful of. I'd come back if in the area and in the mood for a walk. read more

A very relaxing walk with the smell of rosemary in the air while strolling pass all variety of styles of homes and canoes along the four canals, each bridge with a unique design. The residences are friendly. Feels very calm, pleasant and refreshing to visit this hidden gem. This is not a public tourist spot though, so don't expect to be able to rent a canoe and paddle down for your own enjoyment. Canoes are privately owned by each individual homeowner, tied up to their own private dock. I feel I was intruding upon their private backyard while visiting, with people's windows and large doors opened in plain view and with them chilling on their sofa or cooking in the kitchen, etc. They don't seem to mind. So I shall enjoy myself. Definitely worth a visit. In my opinion, several visits. A nice, de-stressing place. *aaahhh* read more

I came here yesterday to do some legitimately super-amateur-school-project type videography with some friends. It was easy to find. Parking was surprisingly easy to find as well but we came here early at around 9:30AM on a Saturday so that must have been why. It was so beautiful and serene. The slow pace of water streaming down with the wind was a nice view. The sun at that time was forgiving so it made picture taking and video recording a little nicer on the subjects. A lot of people jog, stroll and walk their dogs and kids here. Such a nice neighborhood with super friendly residents because most everyone that I encountered said good morning or greeted me. There are bag dispensers in the neighborhood and I notice some irresponsible dog owners not using them. I was there long enough to know that fresh dookie were dropped and the owners did not bother to pick them up. Assholes. I hate those kinds of people. Not only does it stink up the neighborhood but it ruins the smell, atmosphere and experience for others who come to visit the place. I hope they step on some the next time they take a walk! read more

This is a gem of a place that I have overlooked until recently. We were in the area for dinner, but got to the restaurant about 40 minutes before they opened. So what are we to do? Come walk alongside these canals, which lay less than a 2-minute walk from where we parked. The canals line the houses that sit on either side, and fork into different section. The houses had access to this canal from their yard, and some have small boats sitting on the water right in front. While the water is not the cleanest, the rest of the scenery is splendid! It is very picturesque, especially close to dusk. I would recommend coming here for a nice walk, whether you're on a date or just need to walk off some stress.
