This is the daddy of all EDEKAs...large and well-stocked with a beautiful presentation. The fresh produce is beautiful here...and, there's plenty of organic. There's a butcher and deli counter with a huge variety of meats, fish, cheeses, etc. Need to clean your toilet? Socks? Beer (of course...you're in Germany for crying out loud)? They'll have it. And, candy...a hell of a lot of candy. Wow, Germans like candy...which makes me like Germans just that much more. There's even a small Chibo section. If we're looking for something unique, we come to EDEKA. We do not (usually), however, get the staples (milk, non-gourmet cheese and deli meats, etc.) here because it's pricier than the local discount grocery stores. For example...we bought pine nuts here for $3.69 and found them the next day at the local discount grocery store for $1.69. That warrants some shopping planning. I still love EDEKA. Especially this one...

On our recent layover while having dinner at a restaurant around the corner I located this supermarket. On one of my Frankfurt airport transits I had a discovered a similar market so it looks like have a supermarket in German airports for the convenience of the passengers is an excellent idea. The most surprising factor though is that the pricing at this supermarket is extremely reasonable and they are not scamming passengers out of cash by charging double and triple pricing which most businesses associated with an airport do. We were able to buy excellent chocolates at reasonable prices compared to the same chocolates selling a few hundred feet away in duty free at triple the price. 5 stars all the way wish other airports adopted a similar concept.

The prices were great even though we did not have the frequent buyer rewards card. The grocery was strangely laid out so if it is your first time you will need to go up and down each aisle. Example the pasta is in the back center which is nowhere near the sauces. Great lighting in the store. I absolutely love going in grocery stores when traveling. We were fortunate to have driven so we were able to stock up on German favorites and drinks. This is not an option when flying with carry-on. After trying several items I only wish I had known and would purchased more. The staff that we encountered were friendly.

At HbF - The ONLY Munich supermarket (apart from its sister at Ost Bahnhof) that is open past 8pm…read more(20:00). Yes folks Bavaria is wonderful but you have to do your shopping before 8pm monday to a saturday - so finding this heaven at the main railway station (Hauptbahnhof) has saved many a life, relationship, date and party. It might in some areas be a little pricier, less choice but meets most basic and emergency needs - hence the 5* rating. Got an excellent cold room full of beer. Spirits are behind the cash desks. Queues can be long especially weekends - Sunday evening when everyone is arriving or coming back home is a chore. But thank you for small inconveniences.
