At 1:10 I was brought to the back; much to my surprise, the back area was very dark including the examination room; only a few lights by the nurse station were on. Very dark, I had never been in a doctor's office so dark. In the examination room, the technician did the eye exam and put dilating drops in my eyes. She then left. At around 1:40, I Heard Dr. Sowell introduced herself to a patient in a room adjacent to mine which made me realize that it would take several more minutes to come see me. I had to pick up my grandson from school and realizing I'd be late if I would wait to see the doctor, I left. At around 2:10 I received a call from the technician asking me where I was which led me to believe that it wasn't until then that they went into the room where I was and find out I wasn't anymore. I explained the situation to her and she said that the doctor had a patient ahead of me and I had to wait for the drops to take effect, a fact I was not told, but she did tell me that I should've been told by the front people or I should've known. Not pleased with my first and last experience with Dr. Sowell.

There's so much to say about this place. Twenty seven bed facility with good coverage. For the most…read morepart, the nurses were great with the exception of one. I reported her and had her removed from working with my husband. The CNAs are ok. Some are trifling though. Ms. Laterral was magnificent. The food is disgusting! The company that provides the food says the menu was suggested by the higher ups. It's a total waste. The people are always hungry. I literally had to purchase breakfast, lunch and dinner every day. It's a decent facility overall even the doctors offices however some people still seem as if they are finding their way. No real structure. I had numerous complaints about minute stuff. The day shift was good but that night shift would make you hurt them especially the CNAs. They would bust in the room and turn on all the lights just to dump garbage or write on the dry erase board at 4am. People are sleeping. I would say if you have someone to be treated there, stay with them. It's not bad but it could be better. House keeping rarely came but it is because there is only one house keeper and she had death in here family plus a broken foot during my husband's time there.

It was the worst experience out of the 3 carpal tunnel release surgeries I've had. My last surgery was gallbladder removal, I asked the doctor at my visit who would be performing the surgery, she said she would be. Again, day of its a brand new doctor, barely looked old enough to be working, but I needed my gallbladder out so I didn't want to reschedule the entire procedure. He forgot to put a diagnostic code on my pain medication prescription, and could not be reached after surgery. So instead of my insurance covering my prescription I had to pay out of pocket. Another thing is I don't know why they have sick people working in the surgery department? One of the people that came to get me for surgery was visibly and audibly sick. Coughing and sniffling and had a mask just dangling off his face. Also, prepared to wait! Appointment or surgery they cannot do anything in a timely manner. I will only go back if it's my only option.

My wife and I have been patients at The Baton Rouge Clinic for over 20 years. The physicians…read moreespecially Dr. Paul Fitzmorris, are excellent: responsive, compassionate, and professional. The problem is the administration. After being advised to undergo an EGD on April 20, I was told to pay $228.01 upfront because my deductible wasn't met. I asked to wait until insurance processed the claim based on a prior billing error that took months to fix. I also noted my long history of paying upfront when required, including for a colonoscopy last year. This wasn't refusal; it was reasonable caution. I even offered my standard $50 copay in good faith. That was rejected. Instead, I was told I must pay at least 50% upfront or my procedure would be rescheduled. That is not flexibility, it's coercion, kind of taking advantage of a patient situation. Conditioning a medically recommended procedure on advance payment, especially for a long-standing, reliable patient, is unacceptable. This kind of rigid policy erodes trust and overshadows the excellent care provided by the physicians. A clinic with doctors of this caliber should not allow administrative practices to undermine patient confidence so severely. Syed Khalil

When the only "tool" you have is a nurse practitioner, don't expect quality medical treatment…read more The BR Clinic Urgent Care used to offer quality care quickly, but that changed after the pandemic. I have been there twice since the pandemic was over, and each time I was misdagnosed. Two years ago, I sought treatment there when my appendix was about to rupture (but I didn't know that at the time). The nurse practitioner in charge ordered an ultrasound, but only on the top half of my abdomen, so the technician missed what almost killed me. At the time, I thought this bad experience was a one-off. I returned to this facility last week when I was feeling poorly and my throat was closing up. I suspected strep, so the nurse practitioner did a test, which came back negative, so she sent me home with a 3 day course of steroids. Did not do a flu test or a COVID test while I was there. As soon as I took the last steroid, the symptoms returned with some extra ones, so now I am going to an actual medical doctor for treatment. I think the quality of care I received would have been better if this facility was staffed by a medical doctor, not someone who is essentially cosplaying as an MD. The Baton Rouge Clinic itself is outstanding, so I am shocked and disappointed that their urgent care facility is so bad. Why have such a facility if it continues to offer such subpar care that people need to seek more medical treatment? The BR Clinic Urgent Care facility tarnishes the reputation of the entire BR Clinic.
