11 inches a snow. Spent the night on I95 34 miles from my house. Finally got through and the easy pass lane that was closed though travelers spent the night in their cars. Saving grace? High noon next day turning ice to slush. Not one lane open. Folks left in freezing temperatures trapped in their cars with anxious and scared feelings as one hour creeps to 2 that creeps to double digits. No plan. No strategy. No ready preparedness. VDOT's Jason Suttle and Mike Kidwell literally walk in and on water to drain Lake Walthorne Court. The rain over night and the careless disposal of leaves, sticks, and grass clippings into the storm drain trapped 10 families on our street this morning. VDOT came, got efficiently right to work, found the problem and with pumps and rakes and determination pumped hundreds of gallons of water out of our street over the next 6-7 hours. Finally, they pushed the debris remaining through, breaking up the blockage and draining our "lake". While we may want lake front property for vacations, it is not fun when we have lessons, games, shopping and medical visits delayed by the careless disposal of leaves, sticks and grass. So please, call VDOT when you need help; be careful to properly dispose of yard waste somewhere besides your storm drains, and give a friendly wave to the next VDOT worker you see for all they do to keep Virginia moving. read more

awful, awful, awful....nice website, but does not work, nice cams showing plowed, cleared roads and we cannot get even close to those cleared roads even though we're in the heart of Tysons Corner. oh, and the phone line....what a joke, more than 1 hour on-hold...hahaha. read more
