In A Nutshell:…read more -Hotel Damrak is for budget travelers or if you are doing a solo trip not having to stay somewhere super nice. -This hotel is basic, but it gets the job done by providing privacy, a roof over your head, a shower/toilet, bed, small table, small storage area. -The shower was pretty nice, it was a rain shower & powerful, hot. -The location is very convenient, since it's central to pretty much everything in Amsterdam. -You might have a hard time finding the entrance. -After you enter, you walk up a narrow, steep staircase, which will lead you to the tiny reception desk. -After checking in, the hotel is like a maze. -Getting to my room was like the Winchester Mystery house, going up & down twisting, tiny staircases. Overall, the one thing I didn't like about the stay was the variety of guests smoking cigarettes/weed which would seep into my room. Other than that, this was a good place to stay for a fair amount, especially as a solo traveler.

I actually walked by this place twice because it looked like a restaurant from the outside...I was not that wrong because the lobby of the hotel was a restaurant. I talked to a waiter who told me that I was in the right place. They moved the menus off the counter to check me in. Check-in was also where you paid your check for dinner too. This was definitely a first for me. The elevator was in the back but it was so small my suite case did not fit. I walked up the narrow staircase (Amsterdam has many narrow staircases) to get to my room. At first I did not see any bathroom. There were two closets one had a toilet and a sink and the other had a shower with a drain on the floor. Each one of these was across the hall from each other. Then there was my bed...I was on the second floor and my windows opened out on to the roof...it was a little scary because anyone could have broken into my room. I had a real hard time sleeping at night...lucky for MTV Europe... it helped me fall asleep every night. I would definitely not stay here again...it was a real adventure!!!
